I’m a 60 years old Japanese drummer. I’ve been playing Beatles songs with my friends since I was a high school boy. I’ve watched a lot of Ringo’s drum tutorial videos and found your explanation to be the most detailed and easiest to understand. Thank you 😊
I was so ready to leave a comment saying you were playing it wrong, since Ringo goes from floor tom to rack Tom, since that's what so many cover artists play, but nope, you played it right. Very nice. From one drummer to another, bravo.
I'm not a drummer but I have played with a few who refused to play this song because it was "too hard". And now i know why they had problems. Lefty on a right handed kit. You really explain everything very clearly. Thanks for sharing!
No problems, and when you break it down it’s actually very easy, just involves a slightly different approach which is what is the most interesting thing!
Finally! Somebody that does it correctly! I've played this song in a number of cover bands as a guitarist, and the drummers always get annoyed when I tell them they're doing it wrong. Even guys like Dave Grohl and Stewart Copeland don't do it right!
Hey, I’m doing a backing track (live) for my son learning bass to this song . Searched all covers/tutorials of the drums. Yours is by far the most accurate to the recording. The first two bass drum hits you didn’t ride or crash with the bass drum. I thought.. this is wrong. Every other video I saw had a ride/crash with it (Drumeo etc.) So listened to song.. and no cymbal. You’re very close to Ringo’s explanation of it. Why is everyone making this so complicated? You’re the real deal, loved the vid! Well done. Definitely the most accurate out there.
"Thank you, Thom, for your fantastic drum lessons. I've just discovered your channel, and it's fantastic. I want to let you know that I've checked out many channels, but yours is simply great. Most drum channels have someone who talks a lot and teaches little, yours is just right. Thanks again for your effort and contribution to people like me (I'm 70 years old), and for the past 7 years, I've been trying to learn drums on my own, and I'm sure your input will help me learn definitively. Greetings and a hug from Chile."
Excellent tutorial...need to learn this song for a band I have just joined....as a self taught drummer (only been playing for two years ) I don't feel so scared now at having a go ...thank you 😊
If you're a righty drummer (like him) you can put the floor tom (or an additional floor tom) next to the HH & start there instead of going backwards. Something to think about if you're playing it live & you want to keep your regular flow.
Ok...so this video...got my like, love subscribe, comment!!! Awesomeness right there fella!!! I was super stoked to preview and see there, are soooo many videos for me to learn from I like your style!!! Cheers!
Being left handed playing a right handed kit made more sense for him to go from the floor tom to the rack tom, though he started the hihat triplets with the left hand too.
Alterations: Hit the Ride Cymbal on the 1 + along with kick at the start. It's there. It's hard to hear, but it exists. Listen to the isolated drums (here on TH-cam) and you'll finally hear it. The toms are so dead it's really hard to tell, even when listening to the isolated drums BUT the proper Ringo way is this - which is WEIRD due to the FT coming in on the last hit of the 16th note triplets on beat 3 - listen to the isolated drums on 50% speed and you'll hear the sound differences between the toms. BD/RC BD/RC HH-HH-HH-HH T1-T1-T1-T1-T1-T2 T2-FT-T2-FT . Best to start the first T1 with your LEFT hand so you can get to the FT with your RIGHT, while keeping your LEFT on T2). Hope this makes sense. Of course, you could just play it whatever bloody way you want. Also want to blow your mind? Listen to the isolated drums for I Love Rock n Roll and you'll hear the HH in the intro for the first time....EVER.
@@ThomMillsDrums Thanks! But… I’m still wrong!! Listened again but the tomtom part is actually this: (start with Left Hand & alternate) T1-T1-T1-T1-T1-T2 T2-FT-T2-FT - I’ll edit the above comment to reflect the change.
I am new at this. I got a question, aint a triplet at least for ringo who is left handed R L L ? and doing the forth one would like R L L R . (hi hats)
Well not in this case as he is going anti clockwise around the kit. RLL sticking doesn’t make sense in the instance and then you would be unnecessarily crossing over arms
@@ThomMillsDrums oh you are correct. cause when goin on the Toms I was missing it mostly cause I did not have time to move. but switching it up helps a lot... cheers for the tip

Yes, it slowly opens ever so slightly sorry should have made a note of that, but a great point out as very important to the part and one of the main reasons this part is so great!!
Im sorry, I bet you are a good drummer, but thats absolutely not how that song was played. Besides other things, even the drum fill in the intro is played wrong, not only because theres no crash cymbal in your version, but because the toms are not played like that. I know that even Ringo thinks he played like that, but he forgot. Its absolutely not what we hear in the isolated drum track. If you guys want to play that song like Ringo really did, David Montis performed an exact cover of that song.
If you’re referring to going floor Tom and then rack Tom instead of the more standard rack floor fill, I definitely feel and hear it being that way, and like it or not if Ringo says that’s how it goes that’s how it goes man!
You're the only TH-cam drummer I've seen that played this right. Thank you. Ringo is groovy. Loved his grooves.
It’s a strange one!
I’m a 60 years old Japanese drummer. I’ve been playing Beatles songs with my friends since I was a high school boy. I’ve watched a lot of Ringo’s drum tutorial videos and found your explanation to be the most detailed and easiest to understand. Thank you 😊
Thats really great to know, I really appreciate it. I do always try to make it as simple as possible!
YOU are the ONLY guy I've found on TH-cam who plays it correctly
🤘🤘🤘
AGREED!
C&C drums...Ludwig snare..sounded lovely. Great Ringo demonstration.
Thank you kindly!
FINALLY someone plays this correctly!! Floor tom to high
Yes it’s amazing how many people know the right way and still play it wrong !
I was so ready to leave a comment saying you were playing it wrong, since Ringo goes from floor tom to rack Tom, since that's what so many cover artists play, but nope, you played it right. Very nice. From one drummer to another, bravo.
Hahaha yeah I'm the same I see a lot of people playing it wrong, and doesn't sound as good if you go clockwise around the kit. Cheers for watching!
It´s great that you actually showed the correct way to play the tom fills, starting on the low tom.
That’s Ringo baby!
Finally! Somebody that does it correctly!
I've played this song in a number of cover bands as a guitarist, and the drummers always get annoyed when I tell them they're doing it wrong. Even guys like Dave Grohl and Stewart Copeland don't do it right!
Hahaha, yeah well its not natural to play like Ringo!

Wow what fabulous feedback I’m glad you dig my style, less chat more vibes!
Fantastic teacher, explains it so beautifully because he does it slowly and step by step. I rate him as one of the best teachers!
Wow big praise thanks!
Finally someone who plays this property.
I love to play things property! 😜
Excellent tutorial...need to learn this song for a band I have just joined....as a self taught drummer (only been playing for two years ) I don't feel so scared now at having a go ...thank you 😊
Great stuffs You can do it!
That is why I subbed because this is great
Yes John!
Really enjoy learning from you Thom. I’m a beginner and I find your tutorials really really helpful so thanks!! You rock!!
Ahh thanks so much, that means a lot and keep watching plenty more beginner stuff coming!
Very nice lesson and right sound. The best lesson about Ringo. Thx
Wow that’s big !
Thank You so much, Thom! I just started drumming and will definitely practice this one
Yes! Let me know how you get on!
Your explanation and breakdown of the song are so well explained and easy to understand 👏
Arrr thanks a bunch!!
Well done.
😎😎
This is a awesome lesson I love it.. the funny way I do it is I lead with my right but I go around the set the way Ringo does it
Nice yeh, probably easier in a way, but whatever works for you!
I do that too. It works for me.
Wow. Thank you for this. The time and effort to do this is really appreciated. I now can get the time and feel. Great instruction. Thank you. 👌
You're very welcome, that's really great to hear thanks !
brilliantly explained. Thanks
Wicked I’m glad it makes sense!
I like what you are saying...If you want to be genuine to the track, lead with the left on the Floor-tom!
Well done - thanks.
💪👍😊
Looks like you have a Ludwig raw brass snare. I love mine! I think they look & sound great.
It’s a copper phonic yeh she’s lovely!
Great lesson. Saludos desde Buenos Aires.
Thanks!!!
You are a cool dude. I really got a lot out of listening and watching. Best wishes.
Wow amazing thanks so much!
Great lesson!
Easy to follow thank you.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for showing this correct, so many drummers get it wrong by going from high Tom to low Tom.
Yeah innit! Thanks for you kind comments!
Great job ! Thanks
Thank you too!
underrated video
Thanks so much!
Thanks this really helped me I’m trying to learn this but I’m doing some modifications to fit with my style
Great that’s good to know it’s helping you out!

Yeah but I’m way too lazy for that lol!
YES the backward roll! 🙏🏻
Genius innit!
Ok...so this video...got my like, love subscribe, comment!!!

Thank you very much !!!
No worries.
Thank you for doing it right! Or left...😉
Yeah! I try to get it as close as I can!
Being left handed playing a right handed kit made more sense for him to go from the floor tom to the rack tom, though he started the hihat triplets with the left hand too.
Definitely made his approach sound even more unique

I think this the first video I've seen where the drum part is played correctly.
Sweeeet!
Yep, as others have mentioned, I’ve seen Ringo play this and this IS the way he played it.
Tons of other YT’ers are doing it incorrectly.
Thanks 🤩 I always try to make my content as close to the original as possible
nice
Sweeeet!
Great lesson! This helped me a lot. Any chance you'll do a tutorial for Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats?
At some point I will get round to all these suggestions!
great video, any chance of doing a tutorial for Here comes your man by the pixies or born in the USA by bruce Springsteen?
Good shout! I'm getting quite a few requests so starting to make a list and will endeavour to do them as soon as I can!

Finley someone playing it right.
Finley yes!
If you backward Ringo's fill, you'll hear a hidden message.
🤣🤣🤣
He goes around the drums not backwards
Nope he does do backwards around the kit, starting on the floor. Look it up!
