No sponge fans yet so i'll add my bit.......Seen loads of vids but never seen it up close & personal until today....Lad i do weekend work with has introduced me to sponge floating today & it's amazing,a total game changer so much so that i've got one arriving tomorrow through Amazon Prime.....Don't knock it till you've tried it or witnessed it........I've always kept an open mind but wanted showing as i never had the confidence to try it but the finish you get is unbelievable and no stress on the joints

Hi Blaine, I've seen a few lads using the kinesiology sports tape, might be worth giving it a go elbow/shoulder etc... got to look after the body in this trade.

Hi Blaine another great video - thanks for that. Have used sponge but dont like it much- I recently worked with 3 plasterers all using a sponge and the finsh is nice but they take plaster out of the wall. when you put a straight edge across a 2 foot pillar bead to bead they had a 3mm to 5mm gap in the middle where the plaster is washed out by the sponge. I would like to ask what you & Charlie do about this ? The bowing in happened consistently on all of their work

Is the sponge float just good for 1 coat plastering? Or is it fine for doing it on the second coat?

Might be worth trying one of them Tile float cleaners they use when grouting, because cleaning them sponges takes forever.

off the best way Lay on with a 13 spat it put second coat on with a 16 flatten leave till it takes up brush the whole wall as you go trailing find your work will become so much flatter this way would you have to use the two different sizes of trowl

A properly worn in plastic float will do the same job as the sponge float on rubbing up the hardwall plus it’s easier to clean and it doesn’t fall apart!! Plus you don’t get the lines that the sponge float sometimes leave

Just one thing since when are plasterers concerned about what it looks like drying out? Eventually it all drys out to chalk anyway....never understood it

you can get the same results as using a six inch brush been back and forth for years between sponge floats and brushes I've come to the conclusion sponge floats are a waste of money it's all about getting them coats as flat as possible when you put on the ripples usually means you trowl knackered or has a buildup on it

Spat the walls, get straight on the steel first trowel, cross with 6inch brush and steel trowel. whip with plastic trowel. Gets it As flat as sponging, set goes faster and far less mess

I've seen a sponge floated gaff before after painted and when the light hits the room you can see all the lines 😂 looks like it's been plastered with a scratcher

Could be just drying out , as where the sponge leaves the grain then when it's covered it will be deeper so take more time to dry out, or the spread has hit it to late

Probably bad timing for sponge and for floating it just after ;) I would blame whoever done it, not the sponging process. But what I know :) all best!

Sponge floating is the best for bigger hits. Like 50 to 70 m2 on at the 1 time. If you are not putting on a big hit there is no point in a sponge float

I'm a fantastic spread and been in the trade 22 years at the peak of my years now I've tried sponge floating and I honestly didn't like it . I get a fantastic finish without one . However as I'm watching this video I would like to have another go and see if it can not improve my work but make my job easier . And tips on sponge floating would be appreciated and maybe step by step guide would also be helpful for those new in the trade

The rafina sponge is rubbish lol doesn't last. I simply use the faithful sponge float. Half the price and lasts a long time
