No matter what the subject, folk metal just seems to uplift me when I listen to it. This was a great example and I enjoyed every minute.
I'm happy you enjoyed that! There's so much to take in here: Two bands I have to look into, all the instrumentation. So cool!
Hi mate, realy nice one... 👍🤘
May I suggest " FAUN feat. ELUVEITIE - GWYDION", german pagan folk meets swiss folk metal, truly a masterpice in my opinion...
Stay safe and greetz from Germany
Yep, it's such a banger! Bill will love it for sure 😉🤘
Danke freund! I appreciate the recommendation! I've started a list and added your recommendation so I'll give you a shout out when I film it. Stay safe! Greeting from NY! 🤘❤️🤘
Sadly the Song is much to short.
Only two people in this video are from Saltatio the singer with the full beard (Alea) and the backpipe player (Luzy) the rest is from Faun.
Saltatio Mortis (or SaMo for short) is a Folk Metalband from the city of Stuttgart, and your pronouciation was pretty good.
Faun is a Neo Pagan/ Folk band from the city of Munich, normally they only use medieval instruments in their music
For Faun some songs:
* Walpurgisnacht (the Walpurgisnacht is a pre christian holyday among Wicca and Heathens it's on the 30th of April)
* Federkleid (skirt of feathers also the plumage of birds is sometimes calledf Federkleid in german)
* And of cause the masterpiece Faun feat Eluveitie - Gwydion
SaMo have also some english songs like:
* My mother told me
* Prey for the hunter
* Dragonborn come feat Lara Loft
* You really should react to the song Finsterwacht by SaMo, its epic as f*ck and the video is a whole movie (also comes with english subtitles).
An Ullean pipe is basically the same as a backpipe, the difference is, an Ullean doesn't have a mouthpiece but you pump the bag with your arm/ elbow.
If you like it a bit more powerful, you should listen to "Finsterwacht, My mother told me, The dragonborn comes or Pray to the hunter, from Saltatio Mortis. Also very cool videos.
Thank you so much, my friend! I 've taken a lot of notes here. I really appreciate the info and recommendations! I think Finsterwacht will be next! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill have fun, I think you will love it.
Saltatio Mortis - Finsterwacht is another amazing video. It features Blind Guardian and the video is an experience.. and has subtitles
I def will do that! Thank you!
Bill, thank you so much for doing such an awesome review of my song request! I think of all the metal sub-genres, folk metal is what I love the most. It’s the instruments that add so much balance and beauty to the music.
Both Saltatio and Faun are incredible bands but when Faun teams up with others and adds their touch the results are unbelievable. Take for instance Faun and Eluveitie teaming up on the song Gwydion. A must-see!
I will give this song a try on my gurdy and see what I can make of it!
I didn't know this awesome band. Thank you, man.
Mossy, my friend! I loved this! Please don't feel the need to learn this on the hurdy- I seem to ask you every time I see a hurdy probably because you are the only one I know that plays one, but don't on account of me. If you do, Awesome! But no obligation, my friend. I will be checking out Faun very soon, that is for sure. I see other mentioning Gwydion as well so that's going to be the first one. Thanks again buddy! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill You're welcome! Actually, I like the gurdy's part in this song so much that I decided to learn it by ear today. It's fairly straight-forward, but man, it is fast! The gurdy and the bagpipe can make similar sounds despite the fact the instruments are in two completely different families, so in this song they blend together to make something quite unique.
@@BemusingBill My reply vanished so I'm trying again. Actually, I learned the song yesterday by ear because I'm so intrigued with the gurdy's part. The key is a standard key for a gurdy and the notes are straight-forward, but they are very, very fast. The speed will be my challenge, LOL!
I have been a big fan of Faun since 2011. They were in the USA at a Pagan festival in Oregon in 2016?? I love Oliver's voice. The original female vocalists Katja and Fiona were also incredible. There was a shift in vocalists just before the pandemic, a few tried out but not that exceptional then the newest 2 female vocalists turned out excellent. Try "Federkleid", or "Sonnenreigen", to get a good feel for them or for something darker more Viking-like vibe, "Odin" guest lead vocalist from Wadruna (Norway).
Feuerswchanz is another excellent Folk Metal Band.
Also try Deloraine from the Czech Republic "Ragnarok" music video or any of their Witcher songs.
Another amazing German Metal A ccapello band is Van Canto (6 vocalists and a drummer).
Great reaction❤️👍
I am such a big international Metal Folk fan. So many talented people out there😂
🥰🥰Much love from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦
Thank you, my dear! My patron Mossy is a big fan of folk metal and is quite the hurdy gurdy player, I must say! I had a couple of files started with a couple of the bands you mentioned: Faun and Feurswchanz. But I've started new ones with Deloraine and Van Canto. So cool! I really appreciate it. ❤️❤️
'tell me how it is when you close your eyes and flow with the waves for eternity' - what a poetry
1) The Hurdy Gurdy player in this video is actually the Hurdy Gurdy player of Faun and not Saltatio 😉
2) 3 of the singers (and the Hurdy Gurdy player) are from Faun
Thanks! I have to look up both bands to see who is who but I appreciate the info, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
A really nice reaction! I love how inquisive you are and how you informed yourself about the band beforehand.
German medieval metal is not just a rabbit hole but those of a pack of rabbits (probably one of the reasons why some people feel oversaturated with it).
The confusing part about all the features in metal is, that often times only one or two members are "guests" on the main artists track but the band name gets credited (most likely because of it's greater notoriety).
I already saw people in the comments mentioning SaMo's version of EC's Hypa Hypa, which is an absolute treat, and of course Feuerschwanz (foy-air-shvantz, translates to Fire Tail with the 100% intentional double meaning/ slang translation Fire Dick). They just released a cover version of Valhalla Calling by miracleofsound, a song you might be familiar with as Peyton P. and miracleofsound did a collaboration version (unfortunately there's currently some tension between those two).
Members of SaMo and Feuerschwanz did work together too on several occasions. Both of SaMo's bagpipe players featured on the live version of Schildmaid (Shield Maiden) by Feuerschwanz and lead singer Alea was one of the guest vocalists on their cover of Manowar's Warriors of the World United, along with Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum) and Thomas Winkler (ex-Gloryhammer, Angus McSix), to name just a few.
Thank you, my friend! I really appreciate the info. I had started a list of Feuerschwanz and have added your recommendations. Seems I have a lot of work to do! 😁That makes me happy! 🤘❤️🤘
You also have to listen to Finsterwacht from Saltatio Mortis feat. Blind Guardian - the first single from to upcoming concept album. Schwarzer Strand is the second one :)
I can give you more information before, if you like?
Thank you, my friend! More info? Absolutely!! I take notes and build song lists for the future deep dive. 🤘❤️🤘
Just go to Saltatio Mortis' TH-cam channel and look for the Finsterkamm video. It's epic! :)
It's the first single from Saltatio Mortis' upcoming concept album Finsterwacht, an hommage to German tabletop RPG Das Schwarze Auge (DSA)/The Dark Eye (TDE) - Schwarzer Strand is the second one. There qill be 5 singles in total.
The concept album box contains the CD, a novel, a tabletop adventure book (choose your own adventure style) and dice. Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval rock band, but they also mix in different music styles.
Finsterwacht are a line of towers/beacons in the mountains of Finsterkamm, as last line of defense between the lands of humans and orcs at Heldentrutz, a part of Weiden in the Middenrealm at the continent of Aventuria. Their function is to warn the people as seen in the Finsterkamm video.
Fantastic ‼️There is version from “Electric Callboy (former Eskimo Callboy) with Saltatio Mortis of the song “Hypa Hypa” out here: th-cam.com/video/AOpHFHCko3s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mEvlRv4Bn4G0A4xp
Thank you! That sounds awesome, my friend. I appreciate the link and have it pulled up for today. 🤘❤️🤘
Great Reaction ! Please look the Thirst Song from this New Up Coming Album ,,FINSTERWACHT,, with Blind Guardian, it's over 10 Minutes long and looks more a Epic Movie!
Another Song from the New Album (Coming in May) is with Peyton Parrish, the Album is a Tribute to the German Fantasy Table Top/ Pen and Paper Game ,,Das Schwarze Auge,, (The Black Eye)
Thank you, my friend! I added that to my list 🤘❤️🤘
This song became arguably more Faun than Saltato Mortis with all three of their singers vs Alea (Jörg) from SaMo. This is from a Series of songs for the release of the latest campaign of German tabletop roleplaying game DSA Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye), similar to D&D. The first of those is Finsterwacht, feat. Blind Guardian.
The Black Beach to me is about dying. A handful of Ashes floating in the wind forever, someone joining the waves and floating with them for eternity. But it's really beautiful and full of longing.
If you want to see more German medieval Metal, try Feuerschwanz - Warriors of the World. A cover of the Manowar song featuring a ton of singers from Alea (Saltatio Mortis), Tomas Winkler aka Angus McFive (Gloryhammer) and Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum).
Yes, your right. As I am learning about both bands, I see that now. Thank you for the recommendations, my friend. And the info as well. I can see the concept of dying since you mentioned it. Yes, I agree. More SaMo and Faun to come. As well as diving into Feuerschanz, too. 🤘❤️🤘
great reaction
Thank you! 🤘❤️🤘
Blue Monday was from New Order. Joy Division was over after the Suizid fom Ian Curtis. Grettings from northern Germany
Danke freund! Right! I couldn't remember which version of the band did it. I thought it was New Order. I remember the Orgy cover from the 90's though! Greetings from NY!
@@BemusingBill Danke für deine Antwort 🤘
Great reaction
Please more german folk metal like feuerschwanz, SaMo or InExtremo
Dude, you got it! I am planning on checking out Feuerschwanz soon! ❤️🤘
This was cool! I had to go listen to Orgy's cover of Blue Monday after you mentioned it. So many people have covered that song, I forgot about their version. I still prefer the original, but then I'm old-school! 😂 I must admit, I have to be in the right mood to fully appreciate some genres of music. But I am enjoying the adventure all the same. Thank you Bill! Love to Nancy! Happy Thursday ❤
Happy Thursday to you, my friend! I haven't heard that song in a couple of decades. I wonder if my ears have deceived me or just old faulty memory banks. And the original, I honestly can't remember last I heard that one! I wonder if you heard what I heard to make that connection. I'm so glad you are enjoying this adventure! There is so much more, I find myself overwhelmed at times with so much music to listen too. Thank you, Velouria! Nancy and I send our love! ❤️
@@BemusingBill I didn't notice at the time, but after listening to the Orgy version, I heard what you meant!
There is one for Halloween called Halloween from faun
Thank you, my friend! I haven't done any Faun yet and I do have a few recommendations, but Halloween is coming, so I'll save that one for then and I'll give you a shout out! 🤘❤️🤘
Yes, please, I'd rather listen to more Faun than Saltatio Mortis
Faun is fanatical
I've been planning on checking out Faun, honest. So far my song list is: Gwydion, Walpurgisnacht, Federkleid, Sonnenreigen, and Odin. That should be a good start! Thank you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
i feel like it sound a lot like blue monday from New Order. Or am i the only one?
YES! New Order, the original or the cover by Orgy.
