Oh wow thank you for this amazing video, my mouse wheel tracking was all over the place, with your video I was able to safely disassemble, clean the fluffy dirt under the motherboard and get it back to working in perfect order! Thank you!
Thank you for your vid. I was able to repair my Designer Mouse after months/years of sitting in a drawer but not wanting to throw it away your vid gave me the motivation to get it fixed and finally back in use.
Thanks very much for the video. It encouraged me to take my same mouse apart and to discover that in my case it was not the axle. The wheel got unglued from the axle, so all I had to do was to glue it back to the axle. Apart from that, everything was similar, including unscrewing the circuit board to be able to put the wheel+axle back into position. I also discovered that all the little magnets that were keeping the battery cover attached to the bottom of the mouse were also loose, so pay attention to all six of them when you unmount the mouse.
Thanks for the video. It helped a lot. In my case it broke right next to the wheel. I 3D-printed a little support cone to give more glue area. It's back to life now. If anyone is interested in the cone design just mail.
Thank you so much for this video, not really what I need, but the disassemble process helps a lot. I was having a problem with my scrolling - there was no friction/haptic feedback when I scroll, and it doesn't work anymore. I followed your instruction to open up my mouse and found out that the hexagon-shaped head on the wheel axle was loose (suspect it was worn/smoothen out by all the scrolling). I attempted to fix it by sticking it back using 'superglue' and now it works!
I thought It’s just my designer mouse having the similar problem, I bought this mouse from Microsoft for 3 times because of its sleek design but it has the same axel problem over and over again, thank you for this.
thank you so much. in my case plastic is not broken but there are bunch of dusts inside. just disassemble and clean and wheel function back to normal :)
There is no need to drill. Just heat the tip of the nail on a stove so it can penetrate the plastic axle easily. The new wheel will eventually break because its a bad design. Better to use the nail.
Instead of drilling the easier way is to heat the tip of nail so its hot enough to penetrate plastic. Then push the tip of the nail into the axle and cut the head end to fit. Its much easier and less damage prone than trying to drill into the thin axle. I used that method and its solid.
@@OMGCRAFTS I used a little thicker nail since I cut off the head end. The nail has to be just thick enough to press fit into the hexagonal encoder cavity.
This video helped me with disassembly. The issue was that the scroll wheel separated from the cylinder, a bit of glue, pushing it back onto the left over pin that wasn't broken off and waiting 24 hours will fix it.
Other option. Take the part that broke off and is stuck in the wheel on the circuit board. With small drop of super glue, glue the broken part back to the rod. Give it about 20 minutes to dry. Carefully push the fixed wheel back into place. It's a hexagon opening, try to line up the part as much as possible to the opening. Works without having to add anything else, and is likely smoother rotation with the part that has the better fit.
@@OMGCRAFTS I did! The first time, the glue didn't hold because I didn't wait long enough. Second time it worked. This is the best mouse, definitely keeping it...
Really useful video. I have the same issue with my Cooler Master Xornet II (the axle broke just a few days ago) and I knew I had to DIY the scroll wheel axle, but I just haven't planned how to do it yet (or with what I should use to reinforce the axle). Now I have a few ideas. I just need a pin vise to drill a hole.
Thanks for the vid i fixed mine today but the issue is the outer scroll isnt connected to the roller inside luckily the problem isnt the same in the vid..😁
In my case, where the wheel worked erratically, sticking a bit of paper to the left next to the wheel made it work reliably (I didn’t have the proper screwdriver to investigate deeply).
BEWARE!! I BROKE the plastic left click feature by watching this video. I thought he suggested prying up the left side toward the wheel end at 1:00 seconds. My mouse is garbage now. The prying should not be at the wheel end as that will break the tunnel shaped click feature.
Slightly different issue; the axle is in good shape but slipped off the holder gear. Needed to fit in place to make it work. Thanks for the uncovering steps though.
So, they only made the wheel aluminum, not the whole wheel assembly? Interesting, I thought they've improved it (at work, we had quite a few broken wheels with the Designer mouse (black plastic wheel, like shown in the video), but as of now, the Surface mice (aluminum wheel) haven't had that problem (yet).
@@jk9554 you can see the black plastic part that connects the wheel to the rest of the assembly, when you shine a flashlight between the button and the wheel. btw my mouse is still working with the mod!
@@OMGCRAFTS Turns out my Wheel was broken by the wheel itself rather than by the rotator, But having ordered a new part Its fixed. Thanks for the video on how to replace the wheel. saved my mouse.
So I ve got the combo keyboard mice designer BT combo and the scroll wheel on the mouse is garbage. Who approved of it should have been forced to use that exclusively for his life. The main offender is the tightness of the scroll wheel. I have forgot about the mouse and stashed it in a drawer for years. Finally decided to take action on it. Basically I unsoldered the metal cover on the scroll wheel sensor (the sensor remained soldered), and there is a small leaf spring underneath which I pulled out a bit in order to reduce the tension but the issue was not fixed. The thing is the metal cover has an orifice where the inner sensor wheel is spinning, The orifice is too tight. I used a round diamond file to open up the gap a bit and after assembly it loosened up nicely. The metal tab is stainless so normal needle file wont take it but if you have no diamond needle file you could use 200ish grit black emery paper (for metal not wood) rolled in a tight roll , using a small piece of paper of course. If anyone is going to attempt this mod, be advised, excersize extrreme care while removing solder with a wick and a hot iron. Pcb traces are tiny and easily damaged. Ask me how I know that. Had to solder one tiny wire to fix the sensor back because I unknowingly messed it up. The scroll wheel is much better now.

Thanks for the video. I think Microsoft should pay you some money for each fixed mouse. it seems to be a common issue in the designer mouse.
Can’t agree you more😆
my wheel was just separated from rotor, glued it! THx for help in disassemble.
