    I just got into Bonsai and it’s true what you said. Their is something special about growing it then just buying it. I guess because you’re in the journey with then from seed to fully grown.

      so true, Terrence mcKenna talks about when you grow psychedelic mushrooms you gain the same wisdom from cultivating and taking care of them as you do when you eat them later. In the case of the acacia it contains a large amount of dmt too.

      I feel like bonsai is supposed to be a labor of love and patience and buying them defeats the purpose to me.

    • @ap3885

      @@anarchist_parable update 2yrs later. The ones I started from seed died lol. My first time getting into it. I’m guessing I didn’t properly winterize them. Some made it but following year they didn’t make it. I at least have an appreciation of time love and work it goes into it. Still recommend you experience from seed first. Getting them to adult was hard though for me. I’ll give it another shot someday but I did buy a grown one and having fun with that one, pruning it and shaping it. Creating a landscape feel to it. That part I’m enjoying.

    I'm pretty much willing to bet money that is what we know as a camelthorn tree. Its a very sought after tree and it's illegal to cut them down becausethey grow so slowly but the seeds you can pick up the the millions under a single tree. In the wild they grow very slowly but if you plant them and give them normal water they grow surprisingly quickly. I planted about 20 around my farm and some of them grew more than a meter in 1 season.

      Hey Ockert - thanks for this info. I want to propagate Acacia Caffra (Haakdoring/Hook Thorn) as I believe they are very popular and sell easily. But I have been told they are difficult to cultivate, and the the seeds must be soaked overnight in boiling water. Any ideas on a better way please?

    I've just collected some baby acacias and put it overnight in water. Pity sometimes they lose so many roots in the pulling that they don't survive. Nice to see you that touched with the gift, Nigel! It's very interesting that either Acacias or Jacarandas grow in this same southern latitude as it is Nico's and mine: SouthAfrica and Argentina. Sending seeds abroad is not that easy here (you need to fill in a lot of documents) but I'll see if i can send you something! You're always an inspiration, Niegel. Nice to follow your work.

      I bought a golden ficus. It ended up being perfect. It has flourished since it got here. I have already introduced moss to it, with the help of your videos. I already have a great idea for it, and have since shaped an orange sapling into a bonsai with great success! Thank you so much. No matter how hard those college exams get, I know I always have at least 10-15 mins of relaxation time just watching my new trees develop. Since I discovered bonsai a few months ago, it has been a life changing experience. Can't thank you enough, friend!

    Thanks for this video - I stumbled on this after researching growing my own bonsai acacia from seed. you just beat me to it by about 4 months. I am pretty certain those are paperbark acacias - I have a few of them in my garden and they are iconic african bushveld trees. I have grown plenty of these seeds and just leaving overnight in boiling water gives me about 75% success rate. If anyone is interested - I can send them some of these seeds - I have millions in my garden!

    My trident maples, sugar maples, norway spruce and a lone common juniper have all been grown from seed. I find it a lot more enjoyable than buying young trees, but there's also plenty of frustration too! Just started another attempt with various pine seeds (Austrian black, Mugo, and Stone pine), not had much luck the last few times.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mikey Dunn Whenever I'm out for a walk, I look for seeds on suitable trees for bonsai, most don't make it to a bonsai tree, but every now and then, one makes it. That one little success, keeps me planting seeds! I planted about 100 Chinese elm seeds and got one that sprouted last spring. It's going into year two and looking good so far. Not the Elm forest I imagined, but it will do!

    Fun video, so enjoyable watching seeds germinate. I'm surprised your success rate was so low, but I suppose you've got enough material to work with.

      +Chris Vandermeer My guess is that it is too humid in the plant room and soaking them overnight and placing them in wet sand was overkill. Luckily, I did get just enough to germinate!

      Yes that is something to consider, I wonder if that may be playing a part in the poor germination of my vegetables...

    one suggestion for all,,,"In winters if u sowed the seeds then cover the pot with plastic and place it in sun,, in night move the pot to the room",,,it will help to break the dormancy of the seed and also help in sprouting....

    Hi, I want to ask you what kind of soil you use?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am using 1/2 perlite and 1/2 turface. I will also add 10 to 20 percent composted pine bark. All the materials are sifted to remove the fine particles, so I get 3 to 4 mm particle size. This soil requires careful watering and fertilizing as it can dry out fast on a hot dry day.

    A lot easier to put seeds in cup of hot water and leav overnight then plant next day. I grow a lot of Acacia (Wattle) here in Australia

    Hey! The scarification of seeds is supposed to be done on the round side, at least this is the way I do it ! The round side makes the ends of the first leaves the plant uses to start growing. If you scar these, the only thing it might do is they maybe a little smaller, but if you touch the root beginning, this might not even have the seedlings sprout at all. Just wanted to share some knowledge, and please correct me if I'm wrong !!

  • @kyleernsting7885
    @kyleernsting7885 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you do this with any seed? I followed instructions on the box for my seed starting kit and it so far only my Black Pine has made it threw the soil. It seems my wisteria has rotted apart, my acacia seeds are still looking the way they did when I first put them in soil about 3 weeks ago

    great video brother, I guess there was no stratification period for these seeds? I have tried maples and pines and only had a few come up and then die, but after watching this you inspired me to pursue it again. thanks brother and have a grow day!

      @TheBonsaiZone  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rickstreeart I've also had some disappointing crops from seeds, some seem to either sprout or not. Luckily most seeds are free and it's not much trouble trying. I'm going to try growing some trees from hardwood cuttings this year, something new for me!

    The acacia contains a large amount of dmt, when you are done with the tree you can boil it together with the ayahusca wine, drink the tea and become one with the tree youve take care for.

    You don't want to cut the point where the root comes out, you want to do it on the side or back. This allows it to absorb water quicker

  • @54Dogstar

    I'm guessing those are Fever tree seeds, I've collected identical ones and have a few seedlings. They are water loving trees and they develop a green bark. Vachellia xanthophloea.

    How do I, and how much do I water my bonsai during this sprouting stage? i have been using a small spray bottle, but after digging around a bit I now realize my soil is bone dry from right below the surface, to the drain holes.
