What im curious about is will anyone go into the history of it and what dandy looks like in its current state. I saw this short documentary on the subject and it showed how even in some of the most impoverished areas, these men found a way to “put that shit on.” And it reminds me of my growing up. We were ghetto fabulous. We may have had one pair of Jordan’s or Timbaland boots or that one Girbaud jacket but we rocked the hell out of it. Those brands were our armor (for better or worse) and it was for sure about signaling. Never mind we’re all in low income housing but it’s how we faced the rest of the world who already cut us off before giving us a chance. All that to say Dr D, I’m excited about the theme. But like you, I wanna see African designers from everywhere. From Chicago to Senegal. Let’s see it.

I think the actual exhibit will be more in depth than what we see shown at the gala. I’m excited for the opening!
