When Hold The Line crashed into the charts all over the world in 1978 Toto had no idea how long their career would last. 40 years later Toto celebrate their career with this stunning concert at Amsterdam’s Ziggodome performing their monster hits Africa, Rosanna, Hold The Line, Stop Loving Youand many more. In addition 40 Tours Around The Sun features a Storytellers segment in which the band’s four key figures, David Paich, Steve Lukather, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams, plunder their back catalogue, describe the background behind their first demo and reveal the genesis of Michael Jackson’s Human Naturewritten by the band’s Steve Porcaro. In front of 17,000 fans this concert features songs from Toto’s first album to their latest release and includes rarely played gems such as the complex instrumental Jake To The Boneand the theme to David Lynch’s Dune.
The DVD extras package includes exclusive interview footage with the band on the eve of the show as they discuss how their fathers’ Hollywood careers brought these immensely gifted players together and launched them into the hearts of music fans around the world.

If Denis Villenueve's version of Dune managed to integrate this song I would have enjoyed the movie much more than i did (it was okay though not nearly as interesting as David Lynch's).
Phenomenal performance of a phenomenal song. Luke’s tone is magic. Bass also sounds amazing here.

Music industry all pieces were songs and somehow people got used to using the word song for all pieces.. incorrectly.
This was an amazing lineup. By the end of the following years tour, the lawsuit was coming to a close and Luke and Shem had a falling out. Saw the Journey/Toto tour and it was great but I think Luke needs to shuffle the deck again and come up with something really out of the box.
I come back to this so often, I'm enthralled by the Dune score, so few bands can achieve this, to both complement and elevate the material they are composing for. Huge props to David Lynch for seeing this huge sci-fi epic, this convoluted mess of a script and think "I believe the ambience of Dune, of the year 10.191, is best achieved through smooth rock". One other example of this is the Queen soundtrack to Flash Gordon, also a Dino de Laurentiis production. Maybe they just had a thing for rock.

Lukather is such a flawless guitar player. He makes it sound even better than the recorded version for the actual movie. I was gonna go see them back in 2018 but I missed it. They sound so amazing live!

This is not just a theme to a movie, its a masterclass in musicianship, talent and complete and utter competence. I miss those guys so much. I would give my right arm to catch them in concert again. They are so humble, for as much as people give them the accolades, the verbal praise, etc, Luke will always be the first to say no to being the best guitarist in the world even when people like EVH say it. They are all like that; Porcaro, Williams, Paich and Von Shoeck are so down to earth and mannerly, they don't treat us fans, they treat us as family. They are a huge part of music and if I was a monarch in the UK, I'd be giving them honorary knighthoods.
The word hasn't been invented yet as to how much the fans feel for them.

Douglas McEwan, They are playing an online show through Dice.fm on November 21st, It will just be Steve Lukather with Joseph Williams on vocals, plus some new musicians, Steve Porcaro & David Paich are both done with live shows for now.

I was there when they performed in Amsterdam and this was without a doubt the highlight of the concert for me.
The entire crowd was silent and this combined with the atmospheric theme of Dune was a fantastic experience!!!!

This is what the remake of Dune was missing, if they had used toto again with the same tunes omfg would have been a flawless movie

Incredible how it still keeps the feel and tension of the original, but without a doubt makes it a new version. Very few bands can pull that off.

Hollywood can at best do a decent job with science fiction. 80% of the time it's terrible, 10% of the time it's bad, 9% of the time it's tolerable, 1% of the time it's good. Andromeda Strain is one example of that last category. Science minded folks don't make it to Hollywood writer rooms; I think. Hollywood can handle soft science on social themes; it can't do hard science very well at all.

Beautiful, deep, touching and hauntingly beautiful. Every phrase and note magical. The quintessence of Toto. It was an honor to play with Miley P in the studio on my record in 2002. Class as much as he was elaciously talented.

It won't be, not with Zimmer doing the...ahem..."music", but that doesn't stop DUNE from not only being my absolutely favourite Toto record, but also one of my all-time favourite films.

Absolutely love this song. Masterpiece of composition and time sigs. This and Take My Hand are fantastic tracks from this score. This sounds like the album, not bad considering it was a totolly different guitar used in '84. Thanks for posting and such good quality.

Everyone got used to correctly calling all pop music pieces songs because they mostly all are songs.. but then they started incorrectly calling all pieces songs.
Songs are music pieces where singing occurs for the central part of the piece. I.e songs are sung. If there is zero singing it can’t be a song.
Sorry but this hurts me.. seeing almost everyone in the world not being able to speak properly.
