i got this done about 7 months ago and when i first got the bandage taken off i hated my ears as they were all purple and swollen but now i love them and would recommend this surgery to anyone that doesnt like how their ears look

I can’t even go to the gym because I’m so scared of tying my hair up :(. I hate my ears so much.
I’m currently recovering from an otoplasty. My surgery was done by Texas children’s since I’m only 13. The surgery wasnt covered by insurance so the cost was a little less than $4000. My mom also previously had this operation which is why I decided to have my ear done too.
I got mine done for free😯 it was done about a week in a bit ago, now i just have to wear a sports headband for 4 weeks...🙃

I just got mine done like a few hours ago and I’m in so much pain. I can’t find a way to lay down without it being uncomfortable. I have two pillows behind my head and every way I rest my head is painful. I’m a side sleeper so sleeping on my back is going to be brutal for the next couple nights. Any suggestions on resting your head for comfort. Flat pillow? Raised with multiple pillows? My headband is so tight that it’s even wrapped tightly around my jawline/ chin. Was yours wrapped like that?

@@willhennigan7331 Hi! Honestly I love my ears! The pain and procedure was totally worth it to me. It’s been 6 months post op and I’m completely recovered. I expietenfe pain and discomfort for the first few weeks. I do recommend you to wear your headband as much as possible to prevent injury to your ears. Wish I would have done this surgery years ago honestly. Im very pleased with my results. Idk where you live but I recommend doing your research on plastic surgeons that specialize in otoplasty. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me.

i am hopefully getting this surgery next year as i always wear my hair up but have been made fun of for my ears, i am a dancer so my hair is constantly slicked back and makes my ears sick out even more and i feel so self conscious. recently i have noticed peiople with this same condition in public much older than me and just think how common it actually is and you are still beautiful or handsome with opr without surgery but personally i think and hope i gain more confidence

Also can you treat them like you would before you had the surger, for example can you wear sunglasses, or say just randomly fold your ear down or forward... or do you have to be conscious of them and limited to how you move them ?

Yeah the sleep is the worst part for about a week, maybe two! You have to stay on your back and it sucks!

Megan Manuel rlly good it’s so worth it i love my ears. def use a neck pillow to sleep it will save ur life, also ur gonna experience tons of itchiness under the head wrap :/ the first day isn’t painful then the pain kicks in the other 4 days, u won’t be able to talk much or even open ur mouth for food very wide. it is apparently one of the most painful surgeries
yeah, my head is ITCHING like crazy!!!! one more day of torture until i get the wrap off!!! honestly would take this surgery over my knee surgery anyway, just because the recovery time is quicker/easier, but defiantly experienced a lot more constant pain, that doesn't go away with the prescribed pills! Also my skin on my neck by my left ear is turning green/bruising, so I know for sure that I am going to have one colorful ear lol.
I am beyond excited to see my results!

Had mine done in Uk 20 years ago performed by Anthony Erian. Only needed one ear done. I wasn’t happy with the result as my ear still stuck out more than I wanted. Mr Erian agreed to complete a second procedure at no additional cost about 6 months after the first. It wasn’t straight fwd as I was missing that piece of cartridge that helps with the fold of the ear at the top. Mr Erian recreated that fold creating a more natural look and second time round I was happy. Prior to surgery I was self conscious, I hated getting my hair cut and even kept my hair long to cover up my ears. Now I have a normal life and don’t think about it. Fortunately my daughter gets her ears from her mum :-)

I was bullied a bit when I was a kid, I don't get bullied anymore but its always stuck in my head. They look big from the top but not too bad since I have grown up. I do want to get it done but it always makes me insecure and it sticks out!
How did you tell your friends, or how did they react when you told them/they noticed? Did the people you didn’t tell about it, notice? I’m getting this done tomorrow, and I am more scared of peoples reactions than the actual surgery. I’ve made the decision to not tell anyone. I’m just scared that they are going to judge me for ”going under the knife” at such a young age. :(

I got my surgery done at the resident clinic of plastic surgery at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Just paid $1500 and it was done under local anesthesia. Had it done October 2nd of last year and 8 months later I'm gonna need the right ear redone again. It will be done free of charge. So I'm hoping this time it stays to my liking.

i did the surgery 2days ago im telling you it hurt the surgery didnt hurt i was asleep but the bandage and the sleep part hurts like hell but its worth it stay strong!

You do not have to be put to sleep for this procedure! If a doctor tells you that you have to be put asleep it’s because they don’t want to talk to you during the surgery or they don’t do the procedure often. Look for a doctor That does about 20,000 procedures a year.Also the procedure should only take about an hour.last thing it should only be about 4k for the procedure.

Hey. You had to be knocked out again and have them both fixed? Do you mean have the leave in stitches removed?
No. I had a minor surgery to remove my dissolvable stitches as my body pushed it out, I was awake for that.

I had mine corrected about 7 hours ago... I only had my left ear corrected. I’m lying in bed typing this and the local anaesthetic has worn off. I am in quite a bit of pain but I only need to wear a headband when I sleep. I can give an update soon if wanted

@@lauraaa9328 The surgeon told me it was about as painful as pain gets.. He wasn't wrong but it's only for a couple weeks, the first few nights are very rough but the time will pass quickly. I didn't take any pain killers but probably if I had of, that would have helped a lot

Both ears are never they same. Before i got an Otoplasty i was wondering where to get an Otoplasty of Reduction but it seems quite expensive and the Post takes a long time... Next time i hope i get it.

I had mine done August 2018 and after I fully recovered, they went back a little bit and I wasn’t pleased with the results. I went back to my surgeon last week to get them redone and they did not charge me. It might be different with your surgeon tho.

Can you do a present video of your ears? I got my ears done October 2nd at a resident clinic at Northwestern Hospital of plastic surgery in Chicago. $1500 and it was local anesthesia. Its been 2 weeks and I'm already noticing my ear lobes to far out still. I let my resident surgeon know that and she said to wait 3-6 months or maybe a year to get a revision done. I still feel alot of numbness in my left ear and they feel stiff. I also feel like my left year wants to pop out again. It feels like it wants to cramp back to its original shape. Only regret I have is not doing this when I was young. I'm 49 now.

I've just had the surgery yesterday. Ears are purple and swollen and stick out further then they did before..eeeek. Doctor has said i do not need to wear a headband as the 'helix' was well formed so they took the "cup" out to make them sit back. I have two huge gause pads sticked behind my ears. Kind of nerve wracking because it doesn't seem possible that these painful hot purple lumps could possibly turn into something i am after. Wish me luck

I had the same thing with one ear after my first otoplasty. One internal stich went loose. So i went to a second otoplasty with local anestesia and coreect that ear. Im still recovering buy happy about the results.
Has anyone here had Otoplasty, having your ears pinned back, which caused your earlobes to protrude? It happened to me and now I need my large earlobes worked on. Someone told me my earlobes look like Buddha. 🤦🏻♂️

And everyone fail to say that after doing this surgery you cant bend or move your ears or you can but it will hurt. I’ve done it only on right side its good still hate it.. for anyone considering doing this ask yourself is it really that bad ? I’ve seen some people piercing their ears in a way to hold it back don’t know might work ..
My ears move and bend just like normal, they don’t hurt at all anymore! A decent surgeon will make sure this doesn’t happen. I would recommend seeing a doctor if it’s still hurting!
Chloe-J Ralphs i think its because of the sutures the pain is minimal but i will be removing them in the future .. my surgeon had to remove the concha bowl and rebuild the anti helix because its not there i think he went hard on it..have to fix it thank you for your help

Ximena Loett I’m about to get mine, and the doctor said that it should only feel like they are touching you. It’s similar to when your leg falls asleep or something. That’s for local anesthetic though. General is what she had done where you are completely asleep, local is when you are awake and one area is numb. Sometimes they will sedate you with an IV. I don’t know where you live so this might be different. I hope this helped. (And if you are wary of needles like me, they might give you a numbing cream before they inject the local anesthetic.)

Caitlyn Caneva I got mine done at the age of 22. My parents didn’t like the idea either, but it was something I really wanted to do so in the end I did what made me happy. If your parents won’t allow it I would wait until you’re a little older so that way you can make your own decisions

I got surgery a year and a half ago and my left ear came out horrible, like the earlobe looks curved inside. I will be having a revision later on with a different surgeon, I think I’ll need to get my earlobe removed.

It does hurt when I move my head around due to the scar tissue. And my ear has lost sensation and is very sensitive.

One detail was not so clear to me, did the surgeon remove a part of cartilage of the conchal bowl? Does the ear feel now 'normal'?
I’m not sure what cartridge was touched, just the front part of my ear. I had corrective surgery a few months ago so no they are still tender. 🙃

Ears aren't always perfect, whether you've had surgery or not. Sadly I have one ear that sticks out more than the other and I always will.
