I would normally agree but today the family analogy was wrong I think. The family doesn’t have to be profitable to survive. Firms do. I consider myself socialist but I don’t agree with price controls in most cases.

Ian Reis like we need a minimum wage, healthcare and drug costs should be controlled, but other than that I don’t agree with them.

We are in a war without border. One side has been fighting for decades while the other slept; content and ignorant. In this war, facts and logic are our bullets, voices our guns, and awareness our armour. Please arm yourselves through research, fight back by letting your voice be heard, and protect the people by making them aware.

@listen2meokidoki The banks fill many important functions, and can not be allowed to fail. But they SHOULD have been put under long term strict regulation and been forced to give a hefty percentage of their income back to the state after the bailouts. Every major business that recklessly fails should be treated the same way. And CEOs whi were the most responsible for the crash, should take massive cuts in their salaries to drive the point home. They WERE responsible.

Heinlein only missed by one letter in his acronym TANSTAAFL; it should have been TANSTAAFM because There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Market. To function at all, a market needs regulation and conflict resolution to also be functioning. Otherwise, it is just a crime scene by a different name, not a market in any meaningful sense of the term.

And in regards to his idea of economics, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Deregulated capitalism would self-destruct within a week. Actually, in the United States they once practiced his brand of capitalism back in the late 1800s. Do you know what life was like back then? Children working 16 hours a day, People dying from drinking polluted water and food. No worker or consumer safety standards. a mass number of people dying from simple infections and going bankrupt when they get sick. people having to burn themselves with cigarettes in order to stay awake on-the-job! you had massive profit and concentrations of wealth on one end for the 1%, and massive poverty and suffering for the working-class majority on the other end. I recommend reading a people's History of the United States, and democracy for the few by Michael parenti.

Dear Prof Wolff, I have been watching your videos quiet a while now. I am from germany and I was very astouned of your left movement in the heartland of capitalism. Your videos give a little hope to me, as it shows left thoughts popping up all over the world. It is very interesting that the most critic of the capitalist system comes from the economists who used to be the best servants of this system. But it shows only the very bad situation capitalism has brought us into.
In my opinion this video and explanation of the market and especially the "free" market is a master piece.
It should be translated in every language, so people can see.
I have another evil example of letting the market run wild for you.
A while ago in germany there was the Oder flood. Everybody was in need for sandbags to keep the water out of their houses. There was a call for donation from the people to buy more sandbags, so they can help their fellow citicens in need. And guess what the prices for sandbags rised because of high demand, and they were bought with these donations.....this is insane and highly unethical.
Keep on doing what you are doing. Thanks.

Thank you, Professor Wolff. For this program. I’m a numbers guy but nowhere near an economist level; still, what you say makes sense. Completely. I usually disagree, at least a fraction of a percent, of those I watch on TH-cam, however, I’ve never once found you disputable. I fact check and let me tell you, if it takes all day, I will look into whether you are right or wrong. Do not get a “big head” but I have never once found your statements/reports incorrect.
Listen to this guy! He may not save your life but his words may save your finances and your future.

Too RICHARD WOLFF-Very great examples and easy to understand. A big eye opener and much to think about. This video also reveals the NATURE of man and his greed if uncontrolled. What a different world it would be if man was not greedy. The markets do reveal the nature of us humans, what a sad state of affairs. I am moved by this video, it reveals where the problem really is or the true source of it. Thank you RICHARD WOLFF!

Great job as always. I've always had a problem just imagining what a system might look like with a good without a market. A voucher! I wonder what kind of waste was produced during the second world war compared to before regarding vouchered goods. Were needs met? What were the pitfalls, advantages? I need to get down on some history. Thank you!

if your in the top percent bracket of income earners the economy is "booming"

    • @jmitterii2
      @jmitterii2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Based on what the top rich people and various large pension funds and big brokers are doing though, they know its not; they've dumped stocks like the plague over the past 3 years; picking up other things bonds and money accounts that are backed by governments. Even real-estate is spooking them, something real, but they know can easily become worthless if its not kept up, and keeping empty buildings up is expensive. Why are stocks up... oh yes, corporate profits are going to buy backs. It's cheaper than paying dividends. Dividends are generally taxed as normal income (higher), while selling shares are taxed as capital gains: lower.
They know their boom day has it's doom day written on it.
Doesn't help the repo market just experienced lack of liquidity as a bunch of various funds bought a large amount of treasury bonds and paid some taxes. Banks didn't have enough to lend to each other over night to keep the house of cards in tact. So the NY Fed Reserve stepped in throwing over $53 billion dollars at them, and another $75 billion. This hasn't happened since the great recession.
This basically means there isn't that much real money in the system to cover all the banks liabilities (deposits) to pay stuff.
At a time that business debt is now more than double the 2007 peak of $4.5 trillion is now $9.5 trillion, mortgage debt surpasses 2007/8 high, credit card has for the past couple years surpassed the all time high, vehicle debt surpassed the $400 billion 2007 high now at $1.3 trillion, and then there's student loan debt that was roughly $400 billion, is now about $1.3 trillion.
What a repeat house of cards.

My own research in preparation to teaching a course this fall titled "State of the U.S. Economy and Society" supports the conclusions reached by Professor Wolff. The course lectures are PowerPoint based, and I have video recorded each lecture and uploaded them to TH-cam. If you want to get into the details search TH-cam as follows: "course: state of the u.s. economy and society." I am happy to receive comments and any questions the statistics raise with viewers.

Dr. Wolff there is a third way: to distribute based on who/what has the greatest potential, to return to the society. The third way is to distribute based on what is the greatest investment. That is the only rational way to do it!

I have tried over and over to tell people that Libertarians are NOT Progressives.
If you vocalize support for equal rights, equal access, yet refuse to fund programs that support such concepts, you oppress the concept.
Placing a capitalistic model to SELL rights is not anything a Progressive would consider.

Distribution is a function of the "free market", but it isn't necessarily the most important function. The chief function of "the market" might actually be its 'byproduct', that being the allocation of resources. The marketplace signals to producers which products are experiencing increased or decreased demand, allowing them to adjust production.
