I use a simple TJ. I use Thin Black Tape (Everyone in the Family uses it) on the knob. 21 times around then down to the top of the main manufacturer logo (About 5 inches on an Easton Synergy GX) and cut it off. I put baby powder on it to soften it up a little. I hold my stick with about half of my pinky hanging off and I've found this method of taping the knob gives me a firm grip on the top of my stick. On the blade with the Thin Black I start at the heel do a double around for extra padding then going down the blade making sure to have two layers of tape (Usually half the width of the tape) ending beyond the toe making sure I get two layers at the toe. Then I take wax and heavily apply along the face of the blade and the top of the blade. After the wax I take my hands and smooth it out before using a puck to make it even smoother. I use a lot of force on the puck to ensure a smooth surface, then I smooth it out with my hands again. During games it is sticky, durable, and doesn't build up a lot of snow on ice. Being a Defenseman I'm not really sure if any particular color tape helps. Hope you found this interesting if you read it all the way through.
