The eurasian nuthatch

The eurasian nuthatch is a small songbird, about the size of a sparrow, which has its own family of nuthatches. It has a distinctive arrow-shaped bill, which it uses to locate insect pests under the bark of trees. It often climbs up tree trunks upside down.
It has a rather unmistakable colouration with a grey-blue back, yellow-brown belly and a black eye patch. Females are similarly coloured to males. However, the black band over the eye is somewhat narrower.
They are highly territorial birds and ours in particular rarely stray more than 30 kilometres from their breeding grounds. They remain in their territories during the winter.
In winter they feed mainly on seeds, often visiting feeders together with tits, but unlike them they can also handle hazelnuts. In addition, they actively stockpile for the winter, which they then gradually seek out. What they don't find in the spring, they germinate. So the nuthatches are replenishing the forest.

Nádherné video! Brhlíky pozoruju v létě na zahradě jak hopsají hlavou dolů :-) A do rozprazkané kůry bezu si schoval jeden žalud :-D Je to můj nejoblíbenější ptáček. Teda spolu se žlunou, oba jsou moji nej :-)
