I was in the closed testing and I put forward a suggestion I think would cut down camping or at least make it hard/somewhat more fair. That suggestion being, once the monster is banished and the trophy is picked up, all the extraction zones just get swarmed by AI monsters. So if anyone wants to camp there, they have to deal with them, which would let the players trying to extract know that somebody is there from the sounds of fighting. Never got any kind of acknowledgement of the idea from devs or other testers. I was really hopeful for this game, but as it stands, I couldn't care less. The PVP elements are vastly unbalanced. If I wanted to play a game where I spend an hour or more sneaking around and being stealthy just to get killed right before I "win", I'd play Escape From Tarkov. At least then I could play with more than one friend at a time.
Would be brilliant to see this. They could even add some kind of lore, like with the boss monster being put down, other smaller monsters start to vie for control...hence more of them coming out of the wood-works at the extractions. Sad to see this not being a thing.
I dont think it would be that good. I dont think it would help alot, they would just kill some and find a place to camp and it will be even harder for you to get to the extraction point and when you do theres atleast 2 campers in a cosy place right behind your back and you are swarmed with zombies while they cleaned up their spot and took advantage of the situation. Now you also need to consentrate on zombies coming at you and the campers shooting you at the same time. Its a good ide tought but i dont think it will help. I hope they atleast take away the tracking or make the tracking harder or more random. Not pin point your location.
you could easily play around that by not camping at the extraction but rather in the path between boss and extraction. Furthermore, the strategie of camping near the exit should be a legit strategie. it keeps intensity high till the last second. And the definition of "win" is determined by your own goals. If you decide to go for the primary objective then expect to compete. its thats simple. if you dont want to take that risk, then gtfo after your 3 clues. if you want to compete with 8-9 other players then expect to lose. not sure what else to tell you xD
Yea this review so out of date now and virtually all criticism have been addressed. Good on devs. Totally disagree with stick to tried tested format of classes etc.. Why rinse and repeat what every other game does.. Hats off 2 devs for doing something different.. This review now is very incorrect about the game
@ I mean to be fair it was in "early access", so they only released it to polish the game mechanics. If they took the time to correct things and put forth effort to correct mistakes then whats the problem? This review was not the final product period.
They absolutely need to change it so you don't automatically see the players that have the bounty.. you should have to use the dark vision to get a glimpse of the bounty's location at any time, and the dark vision will leave a trail on the map where the player used dark vision (with that trail on the map fading over time). It would make using dark vision strategic and sacrifice your advantage of stealth for the clue to find your targets.
Totally disagree on people sayin you need to see the KILL feed or who is in the map. These people are just looking for hacks ... the same hacks that Macks criticizes STRONGLY .. and I agree with him. Making life easy is wrong in this game. I agree on the clue thing too... clue might be even less easy to find. AI can be improved many other things can be improved ... of course and will like loading time. Hey.. we just exited CLose alpha.. If you invest write these people. I like these ideas of the trail. I thought that using the dark vision indeed penalized me. Instead it does not. We also need Revenge contracts that last max 1 week, minimum 1 day depending on the trait developed on "two sides" damaged and the killer - this should be accessibile from level 150. I posted on this in feedbacks official hunt web site please check it. and comment.
Its been rebalanced by giving the people with a bounty an even stronger xray vision ... like it or loathe it it does work and make some really fun moments. U cant camp in a bush anymore becuase ppl with the bounty has a stronger wall hack than the lightning
For anyone reading this post-June, they've balanced a few things and added in the ability for the hunters who are carrying the trophy to see players (up to a certain distance away) when using Dark Vision. Means you can see if anyone is camping an exit before committing too much to it. As such, I've yet to see anyone camp an exit in a good while.
@@WTFAnyNameWorks It's in a better state now than it's ever been! New map coming soon, and in the last two years we're up to 4 bosses, lots of new weapons & traits, dual wielding, custom ammo (fire shotgun, high pen rounds, poison rounds, etc) and a LOT of balancing. Definitely never see anyone camping these days, either!
Yeah and I support him on Patreon as well but only £1 a month as I can't really justify giving more currently even though I'd like to, I always recommend Worth a Buy to people when they question why I don't like cinematic games or modern AAA games.
These sort of games always seem like a nice idea, but always seem to be executed poorly. They should have it so you have to actually track the monster, not just go to waypoints and then magically know where it is.
yeah, people dont want to sit in the game for 40+ minutes. they rather seek the confrontation and believe in their ability to be aware of their surroundings as well as being able to shoot enemy hunters. i have barely anybody camping. furthermore i never understood why camping is frowned upon in every single game... because usually the main reason is, that you have to put in a lot of work in order to overcome a camping player. you have to be very cautious and cant just run around guns blazing, hoping that the enemy will just walk in front of your gun. if that is the experience you want then there are enough games out there that dont encourage camping. this game clearly doesnt want quick action. you have to put in some work for your reward and many players wont like that. which is understandable, but if that is the premise of this game then you cant just change that.
i think it would be a nice variation of a boss, where as the game is changed based on which boss it is, find it, hunt it, be hunted be it, lure it, that type of thing.
Camping is not camping, because this game has no "performance\ Fragging ideology".. this game is a sanbox. IT's a story human psychological playable game... it's huge. huge potential. Not cheerleading here for the game. IT's just too early to speak so loudly. I agree on empowering AI (absolutely). Also add Revenge system of contracts so the war starts also between hunters that will loook at each other depending on traits that can also balance and "DETRACK" - pollute the tracks disabling the revenge of those who killed you or also team killed you. This game can develop over the "hunter vs hunter thing".. incentivating Team kill stories... allowing team kill as an option (it actually already does) but investing in this Revenge and new roles like "Sheriff\ assassins" that can get an outsourced wanted Mission to revenge someone elses kill (for a reward and more) would be a great idea. I wrote about this in the official feedback... please if you are interested check. This game is huge... stop downvoting it... some people really have been too aggressive against crytek for no reason. This is new SYSTEM, new IP ... I am astonished that Mack did NOT SAY THIS! This is Dark zone (**** the division crap) innovated. This is new kind of sanbox PvP devloping human genius and improvising abilities... it's just an amazing game. I think mack watches too many games...
they could have a monster that hunts you down. first clue gives you the idea of the type of monster it is. second clue tells you the monsters weakness/strengths. third gives you its location. the type of monster encourages a different type of play style, so if its the "hunter" you cant camp as you know he/she/it will hunt you down. its more powerful than the other so you have to make sure you exploit its weakness.
Revisit it now that it's released fully and plenty updated. Also, it's not really 'x-ray vision' like you hate, cause you are defenseless when you are in it and it's only to help locate clues/extracting hunters so it's needed to keep the pace of the game so people won't lurk around for 3 hours, it's already a one hour max game. Camping is in general a core mechanic in this game, or more so ambushing. A similar thing happens in Division 2 Dark Zone, and DayZ Mod. It's how the game is meant to be played and not everybody will like that. It's like bitching about somebody 'camping' or holding an objective zone in a competitive shooter like CoD or Battlefield.
I really like how the game is trying to avoid using the same old tradional class system with you having to hire hunters but the system seems far better fit for a single player/ co-op game and not a competative multiplayer game
I enjoyed this game so much! Honestly, it's a hit or miss with people. Some will love it, but others will hate it. I agree with your thoughts on the camping and knowing where the enemy is while extracting the bounty. I also think the monsters should have a bigger area to move (not the whole map). On the players seeing where you are on the map... maybe they could the reduce the frequency of the lightnings coming from them? That way you can know which direction they're coming from, but not exactly where they are.
I'm watching this almost 4 years later and by this time, the game is much improved, though I would like more people on the map to fight against - there is currently support for teams of 3, which can have up to 4 teams on a map...I would like a bigger battle mode, though...Im going to go see if there is another review you have of this game, from after early access.
hmm... Ive extracted with the bounty in this game like 75 times now. only 2 times, have i ever been exit camped. but that has been when i picked the closest of the 3 extractions.. going for one that is abit further away makes people chase you.. this game has problems right now, but i actually think the gameplay side is spot on. connectivity and performance needs work.. but as you said mack. this game has huge POTENTIAL...
how would the game be much better as a coop game? The PvP element is the main reason why this game is so intense and worth playing. Its the main reason why you are on the edge of your seat. you cant predict human players like you could AI after a few dozen games. PvP is good in theory? do you mean in general or just this game? because every somewhat successful game has PvP in it... and honestly, this game has almost zero toxicity if thats what you are worried about.
imo, depends. i think this game excels at teamplay. therefore i would recommend you not trying to play with random people each game. you could try to find people with similar level, playstyle and game knowledge like yourself and keep playing with those handful. i met some great people on discord.
Mac, where I respect your first review I think this game deserves another chance. I've played it since its early access release and its come a long way. It had a major update recently and it works nicely. Optimization issues were fixed, match making is much faster, game play is still smooth and fun. The gun play is still fantastic and most importantly the immersion is phenomenal! Give it another go man! You wont be disappointed!
Mac I really like the look of this game. It reminds me of what the dark zone in the division was ment to be. I really hope they make this game work. But you are right, it dose need more monsters. A traps system would also so be a nice touch.
banishing is reduced to one minute, and now the people who banished the creature and pick up the (hmmthmpphffs) can see the other players too in dark vision, to reduce risk of getting camped, props to the devs trying to work this out, at least they take criticism serious and work on it, also the game gets updated often, it's making good progress
I don't have this game. But I think another way it could be done? After you banish and are trying to exit the map, there's no map indicator of where the players are. But instead every monster on the map ( the lesser monsters ) begin to run screaming towards the players trying to leave. So? You follow them. But they'll attack you too. This is how you find the players trying to leave, but you can't camp really, because swarms of monsters are coming towards them, and you're trying to fight through them to the players leaving, and the players leaving of course are fighting them off, and you're trying to kill the monsters and the players too. This would destroy the camping for the most part ( not entirely which might be good ), and give a more chaotic fun experience there at the end. Just an idea.
It is kinda lame to know where they are as soon as they banish. You have a point there. However dark vision isn't x-ray vision. You can only see the location of the clues. If i were to change anything. I would remove the players from the map after they banish. That is way to easy. I would also decrease the lighting when they are exiting by a large amount.
you're doing such a good job revewing games that i don't really need to finish your videos if i'm in a hurry, not that i don't finish them but it's so honest that you really get to know what the game is ^^. Keep up the good work m8!!!congrats o7
What I like about the concept is you don't have to play the objective. You can just enter, kill a bunch of minor monsters, and leave with some money and XP. If you are low on health by the time you collect some clues, fine just go to an exit. But if you want a fight, it's easy to go and find one.
+1 for having you revisiting this :) I'm looking for the ideal snipping game, and this looked a contender... until I got to your review. And since I always appreciate your reviews Mack, I'm now hesitant to buy it, until I hear you've changed your mind :-) (or can recommend another snipping from distance game?)
Sniping is great in this game. You should give it a try now. If you do I recommend doing the tutorials and trials. There's quite a few trials that feature sniping skills. If you need someone to teach you the basics of the game lmk.
i think the camping makes it wonderful. which is odd i usually hate camping. but it adds to the atmosphere and fear of you never know if someone is around any corner. i think that is a fun part. it forces you to sweep areas and clear them to make sure you are safe. and creep along crouching to try and hear if anyone is around.
I played this game a lot lately. I'm playing quite noisy and guns blazing. and I'm not getting punished for it too bad. First 2 clues I kill every zombie I see. Then I pace myself a bit and try to seek out other duos and the boss. I never rush the boss, and I play mostly to secure first, kill the boss later. I'm having an absolutely blast with this game. Best one I played in such a long time. I get like 2-4 kills a round and sometimes I escape with the bounty. I mostly play for the pvp and I don't mind being camped. Mostly they're predictable, you can take another exist. but anyway i haven't been in a situation where im getting exit camped and lost. we either clear all teams before the boss starts. or we lose. I wouldn't change much about the game, just some optimizing and extra content like bosses and hunters. i could try another gamemode, mainly the game is awesome because of the atmosphere and its pvp juicyness. even the pve is amazing, I don't get why people dont headshot every zombie they see. its good practise and its so delicious. big xp. ammo you can easely get everywhere.
I have another idea for this game. Throughout the map there are hidden bags of gold and you can find tresure maps that lead you to them for extra money. And before you can take on the main monster, you have to kill mini bosses to get to him.
Hey Mack, been a Patreon for about a year now, always great fun to watch your videos, especially your rants. Glad you've reviewed a Crytek game, I find them quite the underrated AAA Company. The Crysis games were some of my fav shooters, any plans to review them? Especially Crysis 2 I rather enjoy due to its relatively long campaign, immersion in that world thats going to shit, gunplay and stealth mechanics, not to mention the weapon modification system. I'd love to see a (retro?) WAB on that. Don't even bother with the multiplayer, thats not what the Crysis games are about. Those are just all about the story and campaign! Cheers, and looking forward to many more reviews and rants!
You should be able to choose your extraction point at the beginning of the match. Then it would be harder to camp because they wouldn't be marked on the map. Either that or add vehicles to get out faster.
This is a somewhat dated review I think. This is one of my personal favorite games right now in its current state and I know my opinion matters only to me, but I don't see the amount of camping you saw when you did this review. I will admit I was not playing this game 4 years ago....in fact...I had purchased the game, played it solo and hated it as a result. I refunded it at the time. It recently went to 17 dollars on sale and I figured I'd give it another try because it is highly regarded in its community. I am so glad I did. I believe the mechanics have changed in such a way that it's not as much of a camp fest as perhaps it might have been before. There are many strategies that can be employed to mitigate camping from both the perspective of killing the bossn and guarding the bounties or for pushing the team guarding them. I did the tutorials, I did a lot of the trials (which really help you to be better at learning how to dispatch the various enemies while moving quickly and quietly) and have found much more success. Dropping in with random players is still better for me than solo but I've met a lot of people that play the game and now I have a nice little pool of players I can team with. There are so many things to like about this game. The strategy aspect is there. The interesting weapons and mechanics. The various ways you can outfit your character. The fact that you can wipe another team even with free hunter weapons and gear if you play smart. Above all the environment and audio ambiance is top tier. So many audio cues in every single round make this game a feast for the ears. I would love to see the community grow more and more. Crytek has supported this game since launch and I hope they do so for years to come. The penalty for death isn't as brutal as in a game like Tarkov for example. Yes you lose your hunter, weapons, gear, and traits, but the fact that you can level up a free hunter to max in just a few rounds make that a non-issue. The gunplay is both strategic and reflex based. The load out you carry really dictates how you plan to approach each hunt. Anyhow, if you're on the fence I'd highly recommend giving it another shot. I am not great at the game but would love to play it with anyone wanting to learn it.
That is a good idea that clues hint where extraction is located. Constant player spotting should be changed, banishing takes time so other teams have ample time to try intercepting bounty carriers. Camping as long term needs some negative effect to make it less useful tactic for players.
ahhh Mack!! I love the new change to the end of your vids but it's totally lost the impact that it had before. One of the most memorable parts of your vids is the huge BANG at the end with thumb up or down... if u wana add the list of pros and cons after, definitely do that but dont put the thumb up or down during the music!! It loses its punch!!
Lovely feedback and review! I honestly agree with some but more so I disagree with the points on larger groups, more players per map, class based hunters. Those games basicly allready exist in fairly good versions. Level playing fields: great. Only problem is progression in conjunction with permadeath. Why should you care if your hunter dies if it's not important if he lives? Not an easy thing to design but I think they are on a very good path here. It's a balancing issue: level up and upgrade, but never to a point where your character is so OP that you'd have to be drunk and stupied for anyone else (low lvl) to be able to take you down. I have always prefered gun and equipment variations which leads to trade offs. Health pack or firebomb? Sniper or shoutgun etc. Thanks for your thoughts!
Gotta say I really like your suggestion about the monster hunting the players while the players are looking for a way to make the monster vulnerable. Hope they consider it
this one needs an update. the game developed, expanded and still new content is one the horizion. besides persistent technical flaws the gameplay is quite balanced and can be fun if you commit to the steep learning curve.
I never played this game in early access. Was interesting to see it earlier and how far it has come as it is one of the few games I play. Was cringing watching Mack play, as he kept talking everything he said was so off. I can only think the game has changed. This game is all about sound. There are sound traps everywhere. Not just stepping on twigs but things like crows that if you set off will make a loud noise and alert people on the map to your location. You never use guns unless you have to because they can be heard from ages away. The people I play with will know what gun you have and what compound you are in based on the noise it makes. Most maps are double bounty. So two bosses. The lightening will give you a general idea of their location nothing more and there are often extraction points on multiple sides. You get 150 health over multiple health bars. If you get killed, your team mates can revive you but you lose one health bar permanently. The only way to get it back in that combat is to banish the boss. Everything makes noise. swapping equipment, using dark vision, reviving your mates. In my 240 hours. I have only been ambushed at the extraction maybe 2 to 3 times. I've chased people to the extraction, or been chased. If you just want to ambush someone at extraction you have to hope you pick the right one because if they head to another one you'll never catch them. Plus you miss out on fights which is where the funs at.
I would appreciate a co-op mode additionally to the regular system, although I would not like to see a class system. Perks and skills make your character more unique and discourage everyone running around with the same "build", as long as these perks and skills are equally useful to have. As far as the clue system goes, I think that it's a good idea, although I'd prefer them to be more relying on detective work rather than "ghost vision". The camping that's criticised in the video could also be "fixed" if the other players wouldn't be able to see where the trophy holders are located. That would make it far harder to prepare an ambush, because you'd have to go out and look for them on your own.
That's a very fair review Mack, this game is top of my list currently. And for me this is a huge improvement on the escape from tarkov and like you said refreshing from battle royale games. Your points where valid and this was one of your most balanced reviews. I agree the immersion, map and monsters where what sold me on it they just need to improve the rest.
I've played this game for at least 15 hours, and I have had a LOT of fun in doing so. What can $30 get you fun-wise IRL? 4 hours of good fun at the cinema, 6 beers. My point is, if you want to play this type of game; It is most definitely worth $30. If you don't think it's worth $30 then you are either cheap or not into the game category. The game is still in the early stage of EA, and the sole fact that the developers show a huge will of making this game a really good game just makes it even more worth the $30.
I agree, it doesn't feel dangerous enough to hunt a monster whose behavior is like docile livestock, being passive until provoked seems very unlike the terrifyingly atmospheric monsters they want to project. I don't like the idea of being actively hunted by the monster but having it patrol or stalk depending on whether your noticed would give that effect and an air of unpredictability. The base concept of hunting not hunted should keep place, actively hunting the monster will keep players active and moving. Better than the alternative 'being hunted' which encourages players to hide in a house if survival is the main focus. In that way i'd like to see the monsters being much stronger than the players to really nail the tension. Carefully hunting a monster that could kill you if you were careless would really bring the weight of a monster hunt and gratify a bounty reward. *copy thing from other comment* vvvvvv What if you see the monster but see another team across from it! Neither of you can fire without drawing the boss, so you silently fight with arrows and knifes until you start winning and the enemy fires a desperate shot. The monster notices and lurches in your direction, a gross rotten creation of exposed fat and muscle. Neither of you have enough health or time to run: so you hide. You hear it grunting around until it sights the cowering enemy team. "Fereshh Meaat" it bellows! A short rifle snap and crunch are all you hear of the other team's fight. And the sound of sprinting and something heavy crushing soft are all you hear of the other teams flight. You breath a sigh of relief... Pipe shotgun in hand and grenade in belt, you set your sights on getting that wealthy bounty from the boss with a bloody head lodged in it's butcher knife.
I would rather it actively track, but be slow unless your scent is blanketing an area(aka camping) if you're camping it up, you get slaughtered when it finds you.
i really really REALLY want to both buy and support the devs, they made such a good looking, perfectly playable game (yeah optimization sucks a bit, but the gameplay is pretty spot on), but the price range and everything Mack said on his review push it back a ton. i will buy the game eventually, but i just hope the Devs consider Macks review and take it as a fundation of what their game can be, because they got something REALLY good in their hands, and if they do it right, i can see Mack doing a re-review
This game has come so far, it's one of the best I've played... Literally ever. Have you redone this? I'm posting this comment before I look. Third map is coming soon.
I definitely agree with the points you brought up. The game has potential, but it will take a lot of work on the part of the developers to bring that out. Personally, I think the early access was premature considering the alpha ended like a day before they started selling the game.
I've had my £26 quids worth of fun out of it and I've only had it a couple of days. It's awesome! Yes I agree with the 4 players per team thing. Not sure about the medic, sniper etc etc thing. Then it'd become like all the other tripe. This is original as it stands, I've won a lot of matches without camping too. I just wait, don't kill the boss, the others will come and you take them out. Then when it's clear, kill the boss and peg it out. One of the most refreshing games I've played. There are effectively sniper rifles and you can kit yourself out to be a med if you want too so you could play it the way you suggest, but it's need 3-4 players to play it that way.
Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be class based. A simple inventory system limited by weight restrictions would do it, if you limited healing to someone with a specific item - although a class system would make it easier for the game to match up random players, which is ultimately necessary for a multiplayer game.
The problem arises when people only want to play the most popular class. It's going to be interesting to see what they do with this.. The worse thing they could do is turn it into a pay to win or put fucking shitty loot-crates in, or worse still, add 3rd person view. That would kill it right off
There’s a couple ways to incentivise people to play less liked classes (e.g. raise ingame money earned when playing one of them), so that shouldn’t be an issue. My fear lies more with what you (and Mack in his video) mentioned: Loot Crates. This game is fucking made for it, and at the reduced cost they’re selling it at, they could (in the twisted logic of the likes of EA) argue that they “need” that money. I certainly hope they won’t do that, and I have good reason to believe in it, especially as the gambling question in that regard has not been entirely cleared in Germany (where Crytek is based). That said, I bet that micro transactions are certainly coming, a game like this without them would basically be a marvel at this point...
To prevent there being a single “optimal load-out”. I personally think pushing people into “soft classes” (i.e. remove health and ammo pick-ups from the world and force players to carry a specific item for that, which in turn raises a weight value) is the better solution, but the basic idea is about not everybody running around with the best weapon (whatever that may be), and instead are forced to vary their equipment a bit. Sure, you can also do that with careful weapon balancing, but given that this is a first person shooter, that would make the weapons feel weird.
This game should be like mack said with predator like monsters stalking and attacking players as they roam around the map either hunting the hunter, or searching for loot which they can save or convert to extra xp when they extract
The camping problem has already been resolved with the Dark Sight Boost, and there's tons of new content, i'd say wait for sale though, 30$ for it still feels off.
This is a bit like escape from tarkov. You go into a map, you can roam around and do PvP and PvE, and at the end you can extract out of the game. The big difference with EFT is, in EFT you can expect extraction campers and prepare for them. In this, there are extraction campers who have fucking xray vision on you so you don't even stand a chance.
They've resolved the camping issue and updated the game quite consistently. My favorite Early Access right now, hope you revisit it a full year after release even though it still remains in EA, these devs REALLY deserve the support. Amazing, very original game.
Well done. Seemed like a hard one to thumb down because how amazing the sound design, visual atmosphere and interesting/novel mechanics but, totally agree it is just not there yet. Could be amazing if they tune it correctly.
CryTek is a CryMess. Shame such a great studio got mismanaged so bad. Nonsense lawsuits on people who bought their engine just to get settlements and keep the lights on. Nothing like the company that gave the world Crysis. I hope they and their stupid crypto currency falls flat so the talented people who work there can go work for good studios and they can get relegated to just churning out more shitty mobile games that are easier to ignore.
Crytek has turned to utter shite. They have the money. They have the technology/engine. And they have the expertise, and man power to create any kind of game they want. Yet, what did they develop after Crysis 3/Ryse in 2013? Absolute nothing! They had over 500+ employees, and several studios. Again, what did they release since 2013? NOTHING! Amazon gave them ~50 million $ for the Cryengine powered Lumberyard-Engine. With that money, and only 30 developers, plus the Cryengine. I could create a dozens of games. But they don't. Look at Elex. Yes, bad game. But the scale of it, is huge. Has a ton of quests, dialog, effort put into it etc. A 30 man strong team, did Elex with less than 3 million $ if Im correct. And they already made enough profit. And Crytek can't do better than them? With all their resources & expertise? Absolute insanity!! At least their CEO drives around in his Lamborghini. While not paying their employees, and even laying them off!
clues to the extraction point, more clues more extraction points, thats a fricking good idea man!! like need to find 3 to get one, and then 2 more for 1 more extraction...
I think if the developers don't want to totally change the game by trying your idea, they should totally add a second game mode that lets you play with Mack's suggestion, for those who are a little more hardcore. That could come in a later patch a few months down the road.
Not true. You haven't seen then The division affair\GATE when in 2013 they stated this is a tactical shooter (amazing idea) and then change it into a diablo bullet sponge arcade superficial no depth console crap
I like the bounty and the monster thing/clues, but i really want more of an emphasis on loot kinda like escape from tarkov... give me a bag to bring things back so theres more incentive to explore and be active
WorthABuy guy, been watching your videos for a long time now. I find them extremely honest, even if I don't agree with you 100% of the time (90% of the time :P) Do you have a donation page or anything?
Be cool if they added scaling for bosses and stuff. So that way if other players are nearby the mobs would scale up, also be cool if someone killed you while you are fighting mobs/bosses they would aggro. Give more depth on choosing your battles instead of getting your PKs and running to gun someone else.
Four player teams would add security to you. "Strength in numbers!" And that is not what I want personally. I like this game because of the fear that over comes me while playing it. Making it PvE only, or increasing number of people in a team would take that fear away.
you have a choice in 3 extractions, people who go for the easiest extraction should be ambushed easy. keeping track of how many people you killed, how many people fought around the map, counting dead bodies and making that safe judgement if its okay to start fighting the boss or to even banish or try to extract bounties. you dont allways have to fight, you dont allways have to extract, you get xp for killing hunters and monsters or even the boss but if its not safe to try for the bounties then its up to you to make that judgement. This game is hardcore and I can see high level play being those who make lots of noise will be snuffed out, those who are reckless will get snuffed out. those who dont take their time and seize "key" opportunities will get the upperhand in the round. Level playing fields? every gun 1 shot head shots.....
My favorite thing about your videos, is that even games that you don't feel are worth the money, you're never shitty or bashing, you're always just factual and even express enjoyment over the game, just like this one, even though you don't feel it's worth it unless you're really into early access etc. So thanks for not being an asshole lol
what if the players that are successful in banishing get a buff where they can see all other players, instead of the other way around. the rest of players know where the 2 are, they can see the banishment on the map, and also see the extraction point, so this would curb camping and add balance.
Hey Mack! This one has been re-surfacing lately as a must-play game! Is it still a camp-fest? or is it finally wab? Seems the developers have been listening... "Let's re-read the words the words"... (Love your work mate, thank you. Hope you are doing well.)
It's worth investing in it I agree that this should have been Alpha Open for 1 month after closed alpha (I was in it) and then profit. from april 1st. Anyway they should cash in and use the huge work they have done, money is good buzz is good to SELF MARKETING the game for free (as I am doing for them.. I talk well because actually it deserve to be talked well abt.. this is realy NEW SYSTEM CREATIVITY... not "Changeskin Casino gaming mobile CRAP fraggers"... enough with that.
honestly, if this game was already done and released, it would be a 60$ AAA title like everything else coming out. 30$ for the entire Early Access duration seems like a fair deal to me. Technically you could wait a few months and still buy it for 30$ while the game itself will have progressed. Spending 30$ now just gives a green signal for the devs to keep going.
This games makes me think someone should make a "supernatural" the game. Where you play a hunter and have to complete various cases. That would be brilliant!
This game is great. The tension with having to deal with players in the darkness is an integral part of the game. The PvE is not really hard, and is not meant to be the focus of the game. It is just meant to bring players together to fight.
The clues and the monster start to glow red when there are people nearby. I've only started playing recently and I havent really noticed an awful camping problem.
@@blob22201 this. I don't know the mechanics before but I also haven't experienced the camping Mack described during the earlier days but it was a long time ago and was a different game. We can't fault him for reviewing the game as he did with the game he had available at the time.
if your looking to buy this game do keep in mind that its in early access and that these reviews where released 1 year ago and that plenty could have changed
Sloth Empire so many great games are or were on early access. A Lot of crap too, but there are some many good and talented developers that need support. Now, i do believe one needs to be clever and selective when buying a early access game. In this case i'm 99% sure they will put macrotransactions into the game, and i don't thing they will able to fix what's wrong in the game, because some problems lies in the concept itselft. Like what happened to evolve.
The Vampyr great comment. I can understand small, talented dev studios needing the funding through early access, but most of the time it is just abused as a cash out scheme where greater focus is on lootcrates instead of fixing game breaking bugs and adding real noteworthy changes or features.
Sloth Empire That comment is so ignorant its incredible (tho I see why you like Mack). So many great early access games that deserve praise, just to list a few: They are Billions. Dead Cells. Slay the Spire. Gwent. And being this ignorant, you miss out on all of them. Sure, they will release one day, but its still extremely close minded to just look at a game tag, see its early access, and not even give it a chance.
Imagine if you had the idea of there being 5 teams and then one player controlled monster. A weird hybrid of evolve and battle royal....do you take on another pair of players with the risk of being ambushed by a monster, or do you try and team up with them for a better chance of beating the monster and risk being shot in the back when the monster comes? An entire server coming together to prey on the monster and ending up in a Mexican stand-off once it falls.
I think you can play strategic in this game. On one level two people jumped me and my partner near one of those clues. My partner was killed so i sat waiting shot gunned the first one and waited a few minutes after his team mate tried to frag me. He dropped down and i killed him. I got to the boss but was killed. I enjoyed that game. Also another game me and random partner killed boss then my partner downed me on purpose. Backstabber then got killed.
Judge Lazar That’s a fucking awesome idea
Odin you give some pretty valid points there. Yeah I agree with getting rid of the bullshit that is pin-point tracking.
you could easily play around that by not camping at the extraction but rather in the path between boss and extraction.
Any chance to revisit Hunt now that it has been fully released?
Yea this review so out of date now and virtually all criticism have been addressed. Good on devs. Totally disagree with stick to tried tested format of classes etc.. Why rinse and repeat what every other game does.. Hats off 2 devs for doing something different.. This review now is very incorrect about the game
This game deserves a revisit.
@ I mean to be fair it was in "early access", so they only released it to polish the game mechanics. If they took the time to correct things and put forth effort to correct mistakes then whats the problem? This review was not the final product period.
@ what an idiotic comment
I SECOND THAT!
They absolutely need to change it so you don't automatically see the players that have the bounty.. you should have to use the dark vision to get a glimpse of the bounty's location at any time, and the dark vision will leave a trail on the map where the player used dark vision (with that trail on the map fading over time). It would make using dark vision strategic and sacrifice your advantage of stealth for the clue to find your targets.
maen83 I like that idea. That would rebalance more then just this game.
I find it wonderful that mack is gifted games off a developer and still gives his honest opinion.
Never change Mack.
Yea I feel like ACG or IGN would've promoted this game instantly if they gifted it to them ;[
Steve Gee I lost a lot of respect for Jim sterling after his ac origins review, it seems Mack is the only reviewer we can trust anymore.
It is worth revisiting the game now, it has improved a lot, and IMHO one of the top FPS around.
Is the game still good??
@@WTFAnyNameWorks It's in a better state now than it's ever been! New map coming soon, and in the last two years we're up to 4 bosses, lots of new weapons & traits, dual wielding, custom ammo (fire shotgun, high pen rounds, poison rounds, etc) and a LOT of balancing. Definitely never see anyone camping these days, either!
"It has you terrified" Mack, come on. The Sims would get a scare out of you 😂
5deadspace Hey, have you ever been robbed? Shit is scary
Well The Sims would give anyone with half a brain a scare. It has EA on the box after all.
5deadspace I
Tom Visser Hahaha
It is creepy as fuck when you play it. Especially the night maps
3 years later: It became quite a good game :))
This seems like it would be good if there was the PvP mode and just a Coop mode as separate game modes.
hey gas mask guy you also watch mack ?
Yeah and I support him on Patreon as well but only £1 a month as I can't really justify giving more currently even though I'd like to, I always recommend Worth a Buy to people when they question why I don't like cinematic games or modern AAA games.
what are your thoughts on hunt down da freeman ?
why copy and paste other's have done, There is some new element to this. Give a chance
These sort of games always seem like a nice idea, but always seem to be executed poorly.
They should have it so you have to actually track the monster, not just go to waypoints and then magically know where it is.
people only camp in the beginning when they dont know what they are doing..when you get the hang of it, you activly seek out other hunters..
yeah, people dont want to sit in the game for 40+ minutes. they rather seek the confrontation and believe in their ability to be aware of their surroundings as well as being able to shoot enemy hunters. i have barely anybody camping. furthermore i never understood why camping is frowned upon in every single game... because usually the main reason is, that you have to put in a lot of work in order to overcome a camping player. you have to be very cautious and cant just run around guns blazing, hoping that the enemy will just walk in front of your gun. if that is the experience you want then there are enough games out there that dont encourage camping. this game clearly doesnt want quick action. you have to put in some work for your reward and many players wont like that. which is understandable, but if that is the premise of this game then you cant just change that.
Exactly
Mack's idea sounds like a pretty legit version of this game...
vann tedd I understand that games are based on preference... aren't most things? I agree with Mack. You don't have to. It's just an opinion.
i think it would be a nice variation of a boss, where as the game is changed based on which boss it is, find it, hunt it, be hunted be it, lure it, that type of thing.
The problem I have with the game is the boss monster is usually trapped in a room..once it's found it should roam around
Love the channel man! Keep it going! You’re a great underrated TH-camr
I'm watching this almost 4 years later and by this time, the game is much improved, though I would like more people on the map to fight against - there is currently support for teams of 3, which can have up to 4 teams on a map...I would like a bigger battle mode, though...Im going to go see if there is another review you have of this game, from after early access.
hmm... Ive extracted with the bounty in this game like 75 times now. only 2 times, have i ever been exit camped. but that has been when i picked the closest of the 3 extractions.. going for one that is abit further away makes people chase you.. this game has problems right now, but i actually think the gameplay side is spot on. connectivity and performance needs work.. but as you said mack. this game has huge POTENTIAL...
the pvp is what makes this game so good... you want to remove it?
how would the game be much better as a coop game? The PvP element is the main reason why this game is so intense and worth playing. Its the main reason why you are on the edge of your seat. you cant predict human players like you could AI after a few dozen games.
PvP is good in theory? do you mean in general or just this game? because every somewhat successful game has PvP in it... and honestly, this game has almost zero toxicity if thats what you are worried about.
imo, depends. i think this game excels at teamplay. therefore i would recommend you not trying to play with random people each game. you could try to find people with similar level, playstyle and game knowledge like yourself and keep playing with those handful. i met some great people on discord.
yes.. and then join the Discord, and jump into one of the channels.. people use it to find other players to play with..
"Stalking you like the Predator". So many ideas popped up in my head for a Predator game.
banishing is reduced to one minute, and now the people who banished the creature and pick up the (hmmthmpphffs) can see the other players too in dark vision, to reduce risk of getting camped, props to the devs trying to work this out, at least they take criticism serious and work on it, also the game gets updated often, it's making good progress
I disagree about the class system being better - we've seen that, we've done that, it's throwaway.
One of the most underrated games ever.
Definitely needs a revisited. Folks were saying revisit it 6 years ago.
I wish Crytek made single player games again. Crysis 1 and 2 absolutely destroyed the other shooters of their time. Farcry 1 is still the best one.
Glad you mentioned the sound design. I don't see the longevity of the game type, but the audio gives you atmosphere and a great sense of direction.
Looks like a flavour of the month game that all your mates get you to buy only to drop off a week later.
What I like about the concept is you don't have to play the objective. You can just enter, kill a bunch of minor monsters, and leave with some money and XP. If you are low on health by the time you collect some clues, fine just go to an exit. But if you want a fight, it's easy to go and find one.
+1 for having you revisiting this :)
I'm looking for the ideal snipping game, and this looked a contender... until I got to your review.
Sees new Worthabuy video, instantly leaves a match.
Not this time. (Luckily!)
Thanks for the feedback! I'll leave this one on my wishlist for a bit longer.
Some more PVE modes could be great
i think the camping makes it wonderful. which is odd i usually hate camping. but it adds to the atmosphere and fear of you never know if someone is around any corner. i think that is a fun part. it forces you to sweep areas and clear them to make sure you are safe. and creep along crouching to try and hear if anyone is around.
vann tedd Lol ME:A a top game?
fenrif he likes jc3 and hates witcher 3 lol, his standards compared to other reviewers are much different
You might wanna revisit the game in its current state. A lot has changed, balancing wise, and there are new mechanics to counteract camping.
You gotta learn to use paragraphs.
That is a good idea that clues hint where extraction is located.
Constant player spotting should be changed, banishing takes time so other teams have ample time to try intercepting bounty carriers.
Camping as long term needs some negative effect to make it less useful tactic for players.
Predatorian like hunting players sounds cool...
The audio of player taken down...yees...
Horse starts doing deheeee... lmfao
Nacho24 DING!
Hide the extraction point from the other players and or randomise them
I would appreciate a co-op mode additionally to the regular system, although I would not like to see a class system.
I like the idea of the monster roaming around and hunting players. Adds to the feeling of “the hunter becoming the hunted”
I like the new style where plusses and minuses are combined on end to these sheets
I'd be interested in another review now that the full game has released. Granted I already own the game but still.
Can't help but think this should have just been a predator game where it hunts everyone, not sitting around waiting to be found then gutted.
*copy thing from other comment* vvvvvv
What if you see the monster but see another team across from it!
Agreed. Why make it complicated just makes it repetitive...
You should check again this game .You will love it.4 years passed.
I like your politeness in thanking developers for gifted keys but also stay completely honest on your impressions. Civility is not dead.
I definitely agree with the points you brought up. The game has potential, but it will take a lot of work on the part of the developers to bring that out. Personally, I think the early access was premature considering the alpha ended like a day before they started selling the game.
Revisit this Mack, trust your loyal friends :)
I'll play devil's advocate. What is the need for a class system? Why would restrictions on character utility be better than none at all?
They might want to add some kind of Fortnite-esque storm thing to force people together and prevent camping.
Halsaufschneider
Most of their problems started when the studio that worked on Homefront Revolution got bought and renamed
Darkus Hydranoid
Crysis 2 is legit the worst and most consolized Crysis game
Hows star citize- oooh...
+Giancarlo Amaya Kingdom Come: Deliverance is also built on CryEngine. Not everything that uses it is bad...
clues to the extraction point, more clues more extraction points, thats a fricking good idea man!! like need to find 3 to get one, and then 2 more for 1 more extraction...
Mack ! You gotta revisit this game - it's been released now and has a pretty large player base now.
I think if the developers don't want to totally change the game by trying your idea, they should totally add a second game mode that lets you play with Mack's suggestion, for those who are a little more hardcore. That could come in a later patch a few months down the road.
the gameplay looks more janky than expected. weird. it's like that gameplay trailer they showed was somehow different.... *huh*
Not true. You haven't seen then The division affair\GATE when in 2013 they stated this is a tactical shooter (amazing idea) and then change it into a diablo bullet sponge arcade superficial no depth console crap
You said "Not true" and started talking about some other shit. Stay on topic or keep the 'argument' to yourself.
I like the bounty and the monster thing/clues, but i really want more of an emphasis on loot kinda like escape from tarkov... give me a bag to bring things back so theres more incentive to explore and be active
WorthABuy guy, been watching your videos for a long time now. I find them extremely honest, even if I don't agree with you 100% of the time (90% of the time :P) Do you have a donation page or anything?
roaming boss with clues leading to extraction points is the best idea for this game.
Should have different kind of monsters, different kinds of clue scenarios.
Some that roam, some that camp, some that hunt the players, etc.
Be cool if they added scaling for bosses and stuff. So that way if other players are nearby the mobs would scale up, also be cool if someone killed you while you are fighting mobs/bosses they would aggro. Give more depth on choosing your battles instead of getting your PKs and running to gun someone else.
Looks quite similar to Escape from Tarkov. They also have a role playing perk system which I don't think has a place in PVP games
I’m ok with camp etc...but the extraction should be instant. So you could run in and are save
Four player teams would add security to you. "Strength in numbers!" And that is not what I want personally. I like this game because of the fear that over comes me while playing it. Making it PvE only, or increasing number of people in a team would take that fear away.
I knew it! I had this one on my wishlist for quite a bit. My guts never fail me.
you have a choice in 3 extractions, people who go for the easiest extraction should be ambushed easy. keeping track of how many people you killed, how many people fought around the map, counting dead bodies and making that safe judgement if its okay to start fighting the boss or to even banish or try to extract bounties. you dont allways have to fight, you dont allways have to extract, you get xp for killing hunters and monsters or even the boss but if its not safe to try for the bounties then its up to you to make that judgement.
Love your reviews Mack. What I miss in this one is some settings over view. I notice low FOV. Is there a slider? Is this a port?
Good ideas on improving the flow of the game Mack. I haven't played it but would like to.
Hey Mack! This one has been re-surfacing lately as a must-play game! Is it still a camp-fest? or is it finally wab?
Seems the developers have been listening... "Let's re-read the words the words"... (Love your work mate, thank you. Hope you are doing well.)
Check put my comments above.
Not worth $30 right now, maybe $15 for early access
no.... i'd only buy this for £8.
20 bucks top.
I would want to see at least a couple maps and other bosses before. Even like he said in the video have it moving around hunting.
Too bad Crytek never listens to what their customers want.
Radish Horse they make amazing tech demo games though lol.
Any chance of a revisit Mack?
I'd like to know if they ever implemented anti-camping measures, like a timer or such.
The clues and the monster start to glow red when there are people nearby. I've only started playing recently and I havent really noticed an awful camping problem.
oh and if you have the bounty you can see people that are close by
@@blob22201 this. I don't know the mechanics before but I also haven't experienced the camping Mack described during the earlier days but it was a long time ago and was a different game. We can't fault him for reviewing the game as he did with the game he had available at the time.
if your looking to buy this game do keep in mind that its in early access and that these reviews where released 1 year ago and that plenty could have changed
what your describing sounds more like a multiplayer version of alien isolation with the ai alien being the monster. I'd love that!
Is it worth a buy? No; because it's early access.
Sloth Empire
You miss out on so many great games.
Sloth Empire
That comment is so ignorant its incredible (tho I see why you like Mack).
EU Talox. Oh you're spamming that same comment around...Nevermind what you say now.
Good on you delivering an honest review after being gifted a copy from the devs.
