It's so sad to see a whole country divided because of religion. I'm Catholic and I have many friends that are Muslim, we get along just fine. I respect his beliefs and he respects mine. I truly think poverty and corrupt politics is what starts a civil war like this. We can all live in peace, but unfortunately it's much easier to hate.

Anytime you have a surplus of young men with no productive means of getting ahead, moving up in status, you get ideological possession en mass, which leads to over identifying with your position and demonizing your enemy to a violent extent. What is happening here in the CAR, as was quite clearly explained in the video, is not a battle between religions. The main motivations of these fighters, as with many so-called "religious conflicts" is not who is more correct in their faith, but rather is more politically motivated. Seleka, as was explained by one of their military leaders, was based on the goal of overthrowing the current, seemingly corrupt government that may or may not have been prejudiced against Muslims. It just so happens that most of these rebel fighters were of the Islamic faith. In response to acts of terrorism committed by some members of Seleka, the Anti-Balaka was formed, a group in favor of maintaining the current state of the CAR that just happened to be Christian majority and was essentially fighting the CAR's civil war for them, as the government sat on their asses and let first France, and then the UN, try to fight their war for them, despite having little to no knowledge of the motivations behind each group and ultimately solving nothing. This is neither a religious nor ethnic war. This is a civil war, in it's most true incarnate. I just hope that people can see beyond their simple veils of black and white mentality and see the more simple and believable truth right before their eyes.

Most western corporations left unstable African countries long ago. Void has been filled by others, mostly Chinese, Congo is indeed good example. The strategy is called divide AND CONQUER , not divide and leave. To know how it supposed to work , it is enough to look how British Empire RULED over its colonies. There is sill lot of conflicts and tensions, from Africa to South Asia, rooted in those policies. However blaming everything on colonial legacy is ignorant oversimplification. All these absurd claims that crisis in places like Somalia or Afghanistan is instigated by West to get hands on some mythical natural reserves, ignoring the fact that not an ounce of any mineral was mined and exported from there for decades.
