Whenever I hear this song, I think of my late grandfather. He passed away in the battle against Covid. I still think of him and love him. It keeps me motivated and knows he is by my side even though he died.

When I hear this song, I feel the incredible pain of someone who knows that they now have to hurt another person (or their own country and army), a person (or country, army) whose love (loyalty) they cannot reciprocate any longer, an entity with whom a happy relationship filled with memories has ended. It has ended, brought nights without sleep, and the awareness that no other choice is possible. This is not a story of someone finding something else, and leaving a former 'something' behind. This is someone leaving someone else without any replacement. It is a break from something into nothing. It is a hard hard pain when nothing is a better solution for us than staying in an environment that offers love. Not a song about the pain of those left behind, a song by those who are doing the leaving.
My great grandfather served in the French/Vietnamese Navy as a Captain. He was spared by Japanese soldiers because he had a fan from the emperor. My family doesn’t know how he got it but it’s cool. Great grandpa was killed in the Vietnam War after he was captured by the NVA. Damn they. My grandpa(great grandfather’s son) served in the ARVN as a Major and a civil engineer. He was shot during a fire fight but survived. Grandpa moved to The States in 1984 and passed on December 30, 2020. My dad is a high rank in the medical industry and works with many military people(Army Major(Air force as well) and a Air Force Colonel). I want to continue the legacy by joining the Navy and becoming a fighter pilot. This is because I love the sea and have great interests in aviation.
That's so cool, you make sure to never give up no matter how hard it gets, keep pursuing your dream and remember that you have people there for you have a very nice day. :)

Here is a tribute to US Navy task force Taffy 3. On October 26, days after Allied Army and Marines landed to reoccupy the Philippines, the US 3rd and 7th fleets left the area - all that was left to patrol Leyte Gulf was Taffy 3, six small destroyers, popularly named tin cans, and three small carriers. On the morning of the 26th, the horizon of the gulf was filled with the pagoda masts of the Japanese Center Force battleships led by Admiral Kurita. These ships were titans in their own right. Taffy 3, a mouse up against lions, attacked the Japanese with everything they had. They managed to sink 2 of the Japanese heavy cruisers, but all 6 of the tin can destroyers went down in the fight. However, the fight they gave was so fierce that Kurita believed he was under attack from the US 3rd Fleet, so he ordered a retreat out of the Gulf. Two days after the confrontation, he learned that he retreated not from the largest carrier fleet in the US Navy, but from a mere six small destroyers. He was so impressed that he declared "they fought as tigers", and he ordered his flagship, the Yamato, to fire its guns in salute to the Americans' courage. It was truly the last stand for those tin can sailers.

By Operation Dragoon, I'm going to point out because it always gets ignored, the Red Tails had traded in their old P-39 Aircobras (yes, they flew the type) and P-40 Warhawks for P-47 Thunderbolts. They had them for only about two months, but made an impact with them, including the first pilot to ditch at sea and escape a P-47 sinking. He was picked up by a Royal Navy Destroyer who had never seen a man escape a P-47 ditched. It was towards the middle or end of Summer 1944 that the Red Tails were given P-51D Mustangs later on, though I have heard they were initially given a number of P-51C Mustangs as well. After the war, they were reassigned to operate F-47 Thunderbolts. The P-47 with a new designation letter. The Red Tails still fly and include, surprisingly for an Air Force Unit, operating F/A-18C/D Hornets. Though, that was likely US Marine Corps Fighters on loan with their pilots and support personnel.

It should be noted that the Axis had some of the best Anti-Ship Air Force units in the world from 1939-1943. After that point, their ability to train such highly specialized crews dropped dramatically due to improved Allied Technology, Aircraft Coordination, new Tactics, new Anti-Aircraft Guns, and Pilot Skill among the Fighters. Of course, the flood of Allied Fighters also helped, but none of that would have mattered if not for the development in all other areas. For example, the Imperial Japanese Navy held almost all defensive advantages at the Battle of Midway in 1942. But because they couldn't talk to their Fighters, couldn't detect the American Planes until they were on top of them (literally in the case of the SBD Dauntless Dive Bombers), nor could they focus their forces due to their rapidly aging Tactics, the US Navy struck and sunk four Carriers and a Heavy Cruiser for a Japanese Submarine sinking a Destroyer and finishing off a Carrier that was already to be out of action for at least six months to a year. And that doesn't include ships damaged, such a Fleet Oiler struck by the only American Torpedo to actually work in the entire battle (and dropped by a PBY Catalina of all things). The damaged Fleet Oiler got home safely. The same could NOT be said of what would become a priceless commodity in the following year, her Fuel Oil Cargo. Allied pilots were slower in becoming proficient in Anti-Ship Attacks, but by 1945, they were actually better than their Axis counterparts at the height of their skill and technology in 1943. The USAAF even released the Nordin Bombsight to be installed in RAF Anti-Ship Lancaster Heavy Bombers. Now you know why Tirpitz took so many direct hits and near misses. Ironically, the Prinz Eugen avoided getting hit by some miracle in 1945 just prior to the German surrender. Of course, she was later hit by an Air-dropped Atomic Bomb a short while later. That said, the Axis never seemed to alter their tactics all that much, except to accommodate new technology. The Allies built their efforts around their new technology at every turn.

This means that a dollar of paper money is worth a dollar of gold. This is a good thing.
