@@EdonaComadahoutieEveryone our age is struggling to move out, even people older than us. I'm 19 and struggling too. Don't be hard on yourself. You'll get out one day
I got kicked out of my moms house when I was 19. Pretty fucked situation. I didn't do it right and I ended up couch surfing for a minute with family. Made a deal with my mom where she would help me out if I got good grades. I don't talk to her now. She's a piece of shit. But by working smart and hard I got my own studio now in downtown with a beautiful city view. Its entirely possible. You just gotta be smart and play your cards right and you can create a beautiful life for yourself. No matter where you start. I recommend reading the 4 agreements, the 48 laws of power and 7 habits of highly effective teens for a mental tool kit to help u start. Moving out is entirely mental btw. Your biggest obstacle when your young is everything you don't know. Educate yourself, and you can make it.
Hold the item in your hand for 10 minutes before buying, makes it easier to decide if you really actually need/want that item. Also, imagine where in the house you will put the new item, many things you don't actually need. Remember that every bit of clutter you accumulate before moving you have to move into a box and then move. I had too much stuff I didn't even really need, it was so bad, just stupid junk.
25 year old male with a bachelor degree and no credit card, never had a full time job, never made more than 12k a year, never lived alone. I love third stage capitalist!
It's not capitalism friend, it's like saying the USSR was bad because of communism. The USSR was "socialist" but slipped into more extremist policies (due to many bad, bad reasons), the problem we're having is corporatism and the legal loopholes our legal system has allowed. The problem isn't even corporatism, it's the lobbying of our legislators and the absolute down-to-the-core corruption of our legal system. Please don't take it as an offense but I recommend skimming through these topics, you'll find your own red string and develop a good idea of the shit we're all in. Don't get discouraged, keep applying, keep working to better yourself; DO NOT GIVE UP
im glad i found your account. i am 19, been out of my parents house since i was 15. thank you! *i have also been homeless. the struggle is real girl lol
note about credit: you want your utilization of it to be under 33% or it can bring your credit down so if your limit is $4k then don’t have a balance of more than $1320 at any given time :) for renting, one thing that really helps me is finding an apartment that at least has *heat* included. depending on where you are in the country and the heat source, as well as the individual utility supplier, heating can add to your utilities in the hundreds and it can be a shock come fall/winter. even if it means renting a place for $100 more than another place i am eyeing, i would rather take a place with heat included for $1000/month than a place without it for $900/month
@@boinkadoinkk definitely! i’ve lived places on the west coast where i got away with space heaters through the winter (in WA). but when i lived on the east coast my heat related utilities climbed over $1000/month, because of the heat source (oil) as well as some regional political stuff with the energy supplier, living in a drafty 100+ y/o house, etc. so having not paid for heat during the warmer months, it was a major shock and stress and required a lot of budget reconfiguring. i recently moved to the midwest and since it’s also a cold climate for a considerable portion of the year, i made sure to find a rental that had heat included in the rent just because heat costs can be so incredibly variable and i like to have my expenses be as predictable as possible when budgeting :•)
All great points. Urgency can really affect people's decision making, especially when leaving abusive situations. So while somewhere without heating is better than not having a stable home, it's better to try and find somewhere with heat, if not all utilities included. Right now I only pay for electric and my ISP. For the credit utilization thing - I realize most people have to take on credit for essentials, but as a general rule, I try to keep my credit utilization at less than 10% at all given times. This is easier to do with a larger credit card balance. I'm not the best with my memory and the math, and tend to impulsively spend, but the way I do my best to manage my credit card is repay whatever balances I can within the same 1-2 business days. Or I forget and get overwhelmed when my credit card bill is due. It's difficult for me to keep track of bill payment dates that aren't automated. That way if there's other factors that negatively affect your credit (e.g. opening new accounts, lack of credit age, etc.) you at least have 10% or less utilization.
I’m from Southern California. I tried moving out at 18. Had a part time job at Trader Joe’s. Did Uber Eats delivery after work. I slept on a friend’s couch. This did not last long because I could not find a place of my own. You need a full time job that pays +$20/hr, +$10k in savings, good credit score, & an easy to repair car with insurance. Otherwise you will struggle & end up homeless. The older generation really don’t know how much harder it’s gotten for younger people in today’s economy.
I'm thinking of ending myself in a bloody way to escape this rut. I'm 31, autistic, & live with my parents deep in the suburbs of Texas. I'm also a virgin who's never had a girlfriend, & where I live there are no girls cause only old people live down here. I despise the Pearland Alvin triangle because everything is so damn spread out that I HAVE to have a car, & drive vast distances for simple shopping trips. I've become quite Progressive living here despite everyone else being MAGA red. My only income is social security & I don't have a job. My only other way of making a little money is donating plasma, which is a 50 minute drive to Pasadena. Nobody is hiring & the job market is horrible. How the F*** am I supposed to "Move out" on such a horrible budget? And where to? Is there anywhere within driving distance of Houston that is cheap, walkable, friendly, & full of opportunity? Nobody can answer how I'm supposed to afford to move when I have no money & can't get a job. And my family would need someone to replace me, cause I have to do alot of work for my disabled grandma & aging parents. They'd need someone to move in who can pick up their prescriptions, do their shopping, yardwork, etc.
@@slashinatorz1961I relate to your story a lot. It's actually so fucked how it is these days, essentially leaving it impossible to get that place of your own. Let alone in a place where there are not just good people, but your people. It pisses me off that its apparently too much to ask for in the world we live in today
@@slashinatorz1961dude seriously same here. I live in fucking Cape Coral, Florida. There isn’t SHIT here. The job listings are all ghosts, most of the jobs are further north of where I live and it takes SO LONG to get over the bridge because of the time I’m limited to start working at. Living with my parents is so fucking restrictive. I can’t express myself, they keep pushing a narrative for my life, they are always working so I have no fucking support to get to a job on time. How am I supposed to get a car? Be late on my first day and start calling Ubers for the rest of my working experience? I can’t get anywhere
Lotta people here want to leave home and that's cool and all but remember that its all about your state of mind. You don't want to be depressed and having to work a full time job to pay bills for an apartment with zero personality just because your old self wanted it or because "that's what you should do." Make your mind your home then change your environment.
Yea but many want to get out because they’re sick of staying home with their parents. Like me, some people are always restricted or limited to do things they desire
15 years old here! this video is something I will def come back to later in life, my home life is shit and I know that as soon as I can I need to move out, So thank you!
hey just wanted to let you know this really is gonna help me later on, i’m 18 now but i’ve lived with my boyfriend and his family since i was 17 because me and my mom got evicted from our old appnt/is crazy. i feel bad for moving in and taking over his room + i’ve always loved my own space and there’s been some family issues so i plan on getting my own place as soon as i save up. I got a new job bartending yesterday and I’ve saved up my money for a little even after getting a new car, plan on the credit card soon (a little scared because my mom fucked up hers so bad)but i’ve done so much research. thank you
I'm really sorry to hear that you & your mum got evicted!! :( Congratulations to you on your new job!! 🎉 🎊 There's a lot of tutorials on here to make it less overwhelming for you. Just a reminder. Years ago... I was given the advice of just buying one outfit at a time with your credit card, so that it isn't so overwhelming. I wish you good luck!! 🍀
A credit isn’t scary I promise, it hasn’t even been a year since I have one and I’ve already gotten another one with cash back benefits and my score is high high right now too😊. Only use the card if you can pay it back in full, and only pay it after you get your statement (If you pay it before then your score won’t go up because it doesn’t get reported).
One of the first things you said were “I’m proud of you” you don’t even know me and you can say that to me? On the verge of tears right now. I just want to say I’m proud of you and this video is going to help so many people. I also want to say that I really appreciate you and your wisdom💕
hey - i’m proud of you too. i don’t know you either but you are on this video which means you’re doing things to make your life better suited to you, and that is something to be proud of ❤
You’re 20?!? OMG!! I’m almost 30! I am still at home. This is super helpful. Thank you for the great advice girl!! Please pray for me I get the place I applied for. ❤❤
@@Mysterious-Night far more common than you think. 26 (obviously also almost 30, but i don’t know exactly how old op is) and in the same boat. there are a million and one reasons someone could be in that situation and attitudes like yours really don’t help. it’s one of the main reasons i’m still here, actually. no one wants to believe my parents are how i say, no one wants to believe that my lack of a job is because i’m not allowed to get one (legally can’t drive for medical reasons, no public transportation in my town, and i damn well can’t afford an uber). while i obviously could be reading your tone wrong, it just puts a bad taste in my mouth. same vibe as “just be happy” to someone with depression and “just leave lol” to someone in an abusive environment.
@@Mysterious-Night I have been dealing with schizophrenia and the BC housing costs. Judging by how ignorant your comment is and you are, you probably don’t know that in many places people save money to afford a place like Vancouver to live alone. Maybe when you grow up you’ll understand not all people have a linear time line. I can tell you’re obviously young and naive. :) I hope you enjoy this time in your life though. It’s very short.
@@EtheraLauer girl believe me I understand your issues. Just remember there is no right or wrong in a situation like yours. Use your gut not some ignoramous’ judgement on YOUR situation. I'm 17, and I'm tryna move out myself and get away from my terrible family circumstances. Literally got ran over by a vehicle, which has significantly fucked up my livelihood and further deteriorated my mental state to an extent of contemplating giving up, suicide, & murder to try to free myself from this nightmare. I've hit some low points in life, but holy shit, I've never felt such a stronger depressive state of mind up until this point. I've been in some rough spots in my previous adolescent years, but damn, this is like hell on Earth. I'm looking forward to getting a job, finding an apartment, and trying to never depend on people much outside of having somewhere to stay for now due to my current age of being a minor. Also, obtaining my ID and focusing on my goals in life. But it could be worse, I usually tell myself. I just wanna be independent and FINALLY be free & happy.
For those skeptical of a credit card. I love my credit card. You must be mindful of what you use it on and how much you total up. Try your best to pay it off without interest but if you do get interest pay an amount plus the interest when you pay it.
thank you so much for this video. i have been in a horrible situation all my life and i have had opportunities to leave but my mental health/money problems always ended in me moving back home. i would do anything to get out of this place and i have absolutely no support system so ty for being so gracious to share tips from personal experience. it will take awhile to get somewhere but I hope to come back to this video in a year and see the progress i have made, hopefully living in a new place💝

Lot of good pointers in this video… Don’t mean to sound like a Debbie downer but wanted to add some more to the conversation here. avg median rent in the us is $1533/month. Many places you apply want to verify that you will be spending 1/3 of your income on rent for you to even be approved, meaning you should be pulling in at least $4500 a month after taxes which would mean you would need to be making at minimum 69k per year. Let’s say you’re an average restaurant worker making 17$/hr. That equates to roughly 35k per year. At that rate, the take home pay is $2500/month. That means you can’t even get approved for anything that costs more than $833/month before utilities. Now let’s scale back a little and allow for some wiggle room. Realistically you can maybe finesse an apartment for 1200/month, MAYBE even as low as $1100 BEFORE utilities. Let’s say you can negotiate with the apartment complex you’re staying at to allow you to stay at that rate even though you’re spending closer to half your monthly income on rent. Living very frugally, you spend 300-400/month on food. This leaves you with about $900 savings per month provided you have no bills to pay,.. but in all reality most people do have to pay other bills and gas, so let’s say you spend 200/month on gas and another 200/month on a car payment. That will net you $500 per month in savings. On paper that’s reasonable enough So there’s our baseline, that’s where we can set our expectations. Now let’s say you have a good support system, your parents allow you to stay at home and stack it up, you’re well adjusted, responsible, and able to handle the stresses of work without it taxing you, and you’re able to make a plan and stick to it. In that case then heck yea you’re fine, you’ll be able to stack that nest egg in no time at all! But many people have no such luck. Maybe they’re not well adjusted. Maybe they don’t have very supportive parents or are overloaded by stressors at work, are already in debt, have other people leeching off of them, medical expenses, are starting from scratch. Stress spending is a huge thing. Some people party too much. Some people like to vacation a lot. These things makes building a nest egg more difficult, maybe taking the better part of a year or more to do. In those cases, which I think are fairly commonplace, I would recommend people to start tracking. Track your finances, track your stressors, see what you can do to gauge exactly where you’re at and alleviate your circumstances. Maybe you have a taxing relationship. Consider either renegotiating spending with your partner or ending the relationship. Maybe you’re eating out all the time. Consider eating less or making more food at home. Maybe you’re traveling too far for work. Consider working closer to home so you don’t have to spend as much on gas. Maybe you’re spending unnecessary money on drugs because you’re stressed out. Consider addressing the things that are stressing you out so you’re not doing as much stress spending. Point here is I think saving enough to move out has a lot to do with lifestyle, circumstance and status of the local economy of the area you’re in, so it should be noted that all of these factors should be taken into consideration when making your plan to get out on your own. It’s all doable, I just want to note these things because I think it’s important to remind folks out here to try to set realistic goals for themselves and not overextend themselves or bash their heads into a wall/feel like a failure bc they can’t seem to save enough and don’t know why
very well said, I've seen peers in many scenarios like you described. It really is hard out here but it is about what they have to change or what accommodates to them
I’m a 17 year old kid, although my money is at 0, I always dreamed about being on my own, although I’m not good with money, I’ve always felt better if I can just go out, and peruse my passions on my own, without the interference of family, I feel like I’m stuck when I’m with them, and who knows maybe it’s just teenage angst, I do love my family, but I feel that if I was in my own space it would be better, but of course I could be wrong.
I feel exactly the same way love i have 0 money, 17 , and want to to get out of my toxic environment bc ik i will grow more on my own and have freedom to do what i love, follow my passions without feeling like im being held back, and not good enough, and enjoy life! I hope everything goes well for youu!!
I really appreciated this video. I unfortunately live in a house where I feel so relied on and it hurts and have a really awful brother who I feel awful when I even look at him and really want to get out so I can move on. I still wanna stay in contact with my parents and other siblings but only brother for emergencies. I love the rest of my family. They have hurt me in the past and I do hold a slight grudge so I think moving out would save our relationship. It'd probably be in a year or so which is enough time for me to save the money, get a car, get through all my current health issues I've got going on, start building credit, etc. I am definitely saving this video though, thank you so much.
Im almost 22 and ive been trying to move away for a long time but fingers crossed i can move at the end of this year. I have a very bad home situation and i dont get along with my family, hense why i need out fast. Im trying to move to london which is far from where i am currently, but im also the only person in my family who has ever wanted to move out of our town, so im very scared to be the 1st. Hopefully I'll be back here to let you guys know i made it out by Christmas ❤
I took consumer math which essentially helps you with day to day math things that would be used in your life. We learned how to calculate security deposits, utilities, down payments, etc. One of the key factors that stayed with me is having 28% of your money be for housing. The rule being that 28% of your earnings would be the maximum cost of a house you can buy with enough money left for any other necessary essentials. Hopefully this makes sense and helps anyone.
@@annafeather6086 yess if you ever need any help, I have all the notes from last year's lessons about car prices, full gas price, how to read and fill a check, installment plans, and I have it this year😎✨

your advice is exactly what i needed this month!!! currently figuring out whether or not i need to move cos of religion differences between my parents and i... i will be taking this to heart :)
Religion differences are so heavy and so hard, from my experience it is absolutely worth it to move to your own place.. but if you’re safe where you are definitely save up as much as you can before you move so you don’t feel too stressed in your fresh new environment
25 years old dude with a full time job with little schoolin but my parents let me live at home and pay rent but I do desire to move out. Thanks for the vid
crazy paying rent at that point you should pay rent to an actual landlord instead of wasting money on your parents. They shouldn’t charge you parents who do that don’t know what they’re doing in life otherwise they would’ve prepared you earlier in life to be independent
@@Phnmb the problem is that they think they’re teaching you something but in reality they’re keeping you stuck. if they’re struggling that’s a different situation, although you living there is not the reason.. but anyway, you are your parents child forever and you should want to move out of your own desire to be independent not because your parents are trying to make you by asking you for rent..
it genuinely feels so safe here. thank you so much for this video and the comments here are great too. i’m moving soon and im young too, it seems really scary right now but im taking this as a sign that everything is going to be okay.
$900 rent XD girl WHERE I need to know its 1400 absolute minimum here and I'm not even talking about in the city *edit: city as in midtown/most expensive area. I was making the point that this video is missing some crucial factors that come into play (area/part of town being one, which city or state you are located in being another) when it comes to how much any one will be paying. Just in case that might have gone over some people's heads..

If you're fortunate enough to be in a safe space or have the option to stay living free do it to save up as much money as you can, otherwise be prepared to grind to afford living on your own but just remember that it's temporary. Try to find a roommate if you can, don't make it hard on yourself if you can easily avoid it! Secure a job, save up initial expenses PLUS try to have an emergency fund/buffer between what you know you'll have to pay monthly to live with no financial stress. Unexpected expenses always show up when least expected and could easily put you into debt which is hard to dig out of. Get real about what's a need vs a want. You'll figure it out, don't beat yourself up over making mistakes. We're all learning. ♥
holy fucking shit dude. i've told people so many times about living alone. i got the whole town bitching at me about the same thing you get kudos for. i even got forced out of my apartment ( illegal rent raise, landlord never authorized secretaries letter) for living alone and not socializing with anyone. and i really mean no friends, family, or anyone.

I'm moving out of state for school, and one thing that can help with accommodations during the trip is using airbnb for the night. They can be as cheap as $30 with tax and fees if you can find the right place! Motels and hotels for triple the price will often be much lower quality and it's just a waste of money. People's couches or rooms on airbnb are more bang for your buck.

To move out and have your own space, the first thing is to have a job. If your current job does not pay well, prepare yourself in getting a better job by getting certificates, taking online courses or going to college. Second, invest part of you income in real state and stock market.

tip for if you ever need something like a mattress for free, get a plastic waterproof bed cover (they're pretty cheap as a medical supply) and put your comfy sheets on top of it, as well as putting a few dryer sheets under your mattress for a couple days. this will kill any bugs that could be in it and the plastic will protect your skin and sheets!! mattresses can hold a lot of crud that the owner may not even know about. also! Mattress Firm discounts old mattresses all the time! can find a brand new one that's just old for under 100!
me and 3 of my friends are planning on getting an apartment in a few months and im really nervous mainly because i dont know how to tell my family. My parent wants to keep me tied down and really hates the idea of losing control over me so trying to move out might set him off so ive been delaying telling him but i might try to tell him around christmas (were gonna try to get the apartment around late spring) the rent is really good too but i only have 2k in my bank rn im trying to get more shifts and i hope my parent lets me get a job this winter

Keep 3-4 months of rent in savings.
Keep an emergency fund of 500 or more.
Utilities usually isn't ncluded. Ask your landlord for information.
Furniture will usually cost 0.5-1k.
Remember you need to stock your kitchen and bathroom.
Rent being 1/3 or less is absolutely insane, like I can't even imagine that.

note about credit: you want your utilization of it to be under 33% or it can bring your credit down so if your limit is $4k then don’t have a balance of more than $1320 at any given time :)
for renting, one thing that really helps me is finding an apartment that at least has *heat* included. depending on where you are in the country and the heat source, as well as the individual utility supplier, heating can add to your utilities in the hundreds and it can be a shock come fall/winter. even if it means renting a place for $100 more than another place i am eyeing, i would rather take a place with heat included for $1000/month than a place without it for $900/month
thank uuuu
true but it really depends on where you live. like if you're in CA or any warm/temperate area apartments generally don't even have central heating.
On paper that’s reasonable enough
So there’s our baseline, that’s where we can set our expectations.
I took consumer math which essentially helps you with day to day math things that would be used in your life. We learned how to calculate security deposits, utilities, down payments, etc. One of the key factors that stayed with me is having 28% of your money be for housing. Thank you I’m 25 and moving from the 5th time but it’s so stressing now !
Your wise words really helps ! Thank u gurl ✨🧚🏽♀️
I love silence when I want to sit in silence, and not be uninterrupted by random BS. But I also like spending time with others from time to time.
I'm trying to be ready to move out, have a feeling sooner or later I'm gonna get kicked out and I don't wanna have to start worrying about it while also trying to keep grades up in uni. Thanks for the advice, I've still gotta watch most of it but I will be back soon!
just finished watching, this 100% helped build my knowledge of how to move. Thank you!
You look like a Tim Burton character! And I mean this as a compliment!
this helped a lot, I am currently 20 and planning to move out by 2026. thank you.
Same, I wish you luck 🙏
i'm so glad i found your video, this saved me so much worry because now i get my head in the game and make it happen by the end of this year
Had a mental breakdown and u popped up on my timeline thank u for the advice gorgeous💚
Unrelated but your vibe is giving tim Burton and im here for it.
holy fucking shit dude. i've told people so many times about living alone. i got the whole town bitching at me about the same thing you get kudos for. i even got forced out of my apartment ( illegal rent raise, landlord never authorized secretaries letter) for living alone and not socializing with anyone. and i really mean no friends, family, or anyone.
You're literally ANGELIC omg!!!
This video hits home on every thing i am thinking about. I have experience on everything in life EXCEPT moving.
And i was thinking this out before even 1:00
I’m moving out for the first time (relatively) soon, so I really really appreciate hearing all of this. Especially long before I want you to move
I'm moving out of state for school, and one thing that can help with accommodations during the trip is using airbnb for the night. They can be as cheap as $30 with tax and fees if you can find the right place! Motels and hotels for triple the price will often be much lower quality and it's just a waste of money. People's couches or rooms on airbnb are more bang for your buck.
this has been one of the best advice videos on moving out I've seen thank you for this!
I will not say my age here but I had been thinking and worrying what to do first once I get there, thank you very much for this video
17, my mom is moving back to her home country after i graduate early from high school this december and my older brother will be moving out after i come back to the states so i’ll be alone with my dad who’s not even home at all. i really appreciate this video, thank you.
This is such a great video! Your voice is so soothing. I just got out of a pretty bad situation, so my heart goes out to anyone looking for a place. And don't forget to take some time for yourself as well. Good luck everyone!😄
i fell asleep to this because your voice is so relaxing
This was so helpful, and your whole aesthetic is such a vibe
To move out and have your own space, the first thing is to have a job. If your current job does not pay well, prepare yourself in getting a better job by getting certificates, taking online courses or going to college. Second, invest part of you income in real state and stock market.
this video was definitely not for me but I stayed to the end anyway. Cheers! Your doing some great work here :)
New subscriber here that saw this video in my recommended and just wanted to say thank you for this video! I'm turning 20 next month and I always wanted to move out but don't have the money to do it especially with how expensive things are these days. I will definietly be saving this video and come back to it in the future!
this was so great thank you! you talking about how to check in with your body to know if a place is right for you i resonate with so much. i had question about food though, how do you manage food and what to eat on a budget while staying relatively healthy?
thank you for this video
This video really put things into perspective 💗 I love how you broke everything down, and that freebie alerts is a game changer thank you Sepherah!
tip for if you ever need something like a mattress for free, get a plastic waterproof bed cover (they're pretty cheap as a medical supply) and put your comfy sheets on top of it, as well as putting a few dryer sheets under your mattress for a couple days. this will kill any bugs that could be in it and the plastic will protect your skin and sheets!! mattresses can hold a lot of crud that the owner may not even know about.
also! Mattress Firm discounts old mattresses all the time! can find a brand new one that's just old for under 100!
I love your energy so much. So calming and beautiful. Thank you for the tips
Same day, next year, I’ll be in my own place. I’ll come back here and tell you all
Omg you look like a tim burton character and I’m living for it
You know, seriously, your advice is amazing! You're great and smart! All the best! (-just subscribed!) Greetings from the EU!
My jaw dropped when you said you lived in Idaho, because I do too!!!😂
Will be moving out as soon as I possibly can
me and 3 of my friends are planning on getting an apartment in a few months and im really nervous mainly because i dont know how to tell my family.
I use a credit card like a debit card. I pay it off everytime I make a purchase, Every single day. All I want is the couple extra pennies of cashback to buy stocks with.
My personal take on Emergency funds is about 1.5k for starter funds. And 3 to 6 months for the fully funded one.
I still live with ma cuz its easy. She charges me 800 a month including my insurance.
thank you for this video! this is so helpful
loved this, thank you so much! a video on budgeting would be so helpful too
I'm in a bad family circumstance and I cant move for 2 (1/2) more years but this definitely helped me on what to prepare and expect
