Humphreys Peak is the highest point in Arizona at 12,633 feet and one of the most scenic viewpoints in the San Francisco Peaks. On clear days hikers can see the Grand Canyon from the summit. The alpine forest trail is located just north of Flagstaff. This is a strenuous rocky trail with over 3,000 feet elevation gain.

I have many memories of my numerous attempts to summit Mt. Humphrey. I've had to turn around because of a Forest Fire, turn around 300' from the summit because Mother Nature was throwing lightning bolts, & once after reaching the saddle because I wasn't physically able to continue on. I wish you'd said something or included footage of the 3 false summits, the 11,600' trail sign, & the metal container containing the logbook hikers are supposed to sign on the way UP & again to sign out, on the way back to the trailhead.
My most memorable hike was on 3 Aug 2010. Upon arriving at the summit there were 3 other hikers, within 10 minutes after arriving it began to hail & in another 10 minutes the summit was in a whiteout condition & the summit down to the saddle completely covered in hail. Thanks to my GPS I was able to safely get back to the saddle & below the treeline, the trail was apparent because of the tree canopy. Upon returning to the trailhead I looked up at the summit, took a photo, & all the hail had melted.
The Yurt is something that must be new & I'm wondering if you can say something about WHERE it physically is located; co ords would be good.
All my hike photos are taken with a Lumix FZ200.
I retired & moved to Reno, Nevada in 2014.
I fervently wish you'd included more footage of the hike itself, both the ascent & descent.
I'd like to suggest you consider a clockwise hike in the Superstition Mountains beginning at the Carney Springs trailhead, up to Robber's Roost, over & down to Fremont Saddle & then continue down the Geronimo Cave trail instead of the Peralta Trail.

  • @burpleson

Kraig & Chris, I enjoyed the video immensely. For me in Australia our highest peak is only 7,310 feet (Mt. Kosciuszko). Uinta Highline Trail, Lost Coast Trail, maybe Wonderland Trail or its Northern Loop, Seven Lakes Basin and Hoh River Trail, Colorado Trail segs 25-28 Silverton to Durango or the Collegiate Loop, Chicago Basin Elk Park\Needleton Loop. I hiked Humphreys Peak years ago after two attempts! It gets really windy up there and it must have been 50+ mph winds when we were up there, my friend Harry and I! I lost my hat one year, it blew off and just kept on going never to been seen again by us. I made it to the top but my friend Harry had to stop since his eyes were bothering him, a result of his being diabetic. After getting down, I remember us going into town and being so hungry we both ordered a whole pizza! We each ate about half of it and then we took the remaining slices outside and we gave it to a homeless woman who I'm sure enjoyed it. I realize we don't really see homeless people unless we are looking for them. I remember this woman because she walked up to us and asked if she could clean our house to earn some money. We told her we were from out of town and offered her the pizza instead. She gladly accepted it! Also back then, I did not have a camera, Harry did but he was down below me so I had to get a picture of me taken and then emailed to me. I don't remember if I ever got the picture!
