    My Grandfather served on this ship as a radioman in WW 2, Pacific theater. I got to visit it and the tiny stall in which he worked when I was young.
    He took 2 ashtrays off the sub as a memento, which we still have to this day. The tray’s rim says USS BECUNA and some other basic info. Great video.

    That is so cool, anytime I walk past her at Penns Landing it's like looking at a time capsule.

    My father served in Sea Robin, another Guppy 1A conversion, in the 50s. I'm not sure if he served in Sea Robin while the Barb was being converted, or served in Barb while Sea Robin was converted. I do know that whichever it was, he went back to that boat after the conversion. One of these days I'm going to make it down there to take a tour of Becuna.

    I'd like to suggest that the Navy bring back the names of World War II submarines such as Escolar, Becuna, Dorado, Capelin, so on as to commemorate those subs and crews that served in the War.

      They already are. SSN-804 through 807 will be named Barb, Tang, Wahoo, and Silversides in that order.

    We try to go to Philly once or twice a year. We will be down in the spring. When is the best time to go to see some of the crew ?

      Currently, Submarine BECUNA is only accessible as a guided tour option, which is an add-on option to our general admission ticket package. Tour times can be found here: www.phillyseaport.org/admissons-hours-of-operation/.

    My brother served on the Becuna in the 60's. Is there a way for me to find out his exact time? Thank you.

      Service records can be requested from the National Archives by next of kin by filling out a form on their website. That would be the best place to start!

      @@independenceseaportmuseum I just completed a request using the information you provided. Thank you so much - I had no clue where to even begin (old age has taken over).

    Up to what depth could Bacuna use her radar?

  • @Bill23799
    @Bill23799 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I assume the Bacuna was born a Belao class sub.
