Thanks for these videos! I'm planning to start my first Warre hive this summer, and it's been really helpful to watch your videos. It's one thing to read about these processes, and another to see them in action. Can you tell me how long it typically takes the bees to work through one of these feedings? Do you use that rate of consumption to gauge the necessity of future feedings?

The speed with which they use the syrup I find depends on the individual hive as well as whether there is a nectar flow. I have had hives go through the whole bucket in less than a week and the hive right beside will take two or three times that. I usually try to feed a newly installed package at least 8-10 lbs of sugar made into syrup. I will start with regular feedings as they use the syrup and then taper off toward the middle of summer. I will feed weaker hives again in late summer to bulk up the stores. Thanks for the question, please let me know if that was what you were looking for!

I have Langstroth Hives, but an getting a couple of established Warres soon. (Buying from a Beek in next Town.)
    A quick Question :
Where do you place a Fondant Block in the Box Stack re Warre ?
Know Brood moves up, to feed, but do Warre Bees navigate above that Top Honey Box ?
    Can you advise... 🙄
    Thanks.
Sad Day here we lost our Majesty today, not a Hive Queen, but 'the Queen' Elizabeth ER II 😢
    Canada too.... 👀
Scotland is like a hopelesslyqueenless Country right now. She died here in Scotland at Balmoral Castle this afternoon. ER II 👑 RIP

    Happy Beekeeping 2022.

Here we add Fondant to Langstroth Hives, above the Upper Honey/Pollen/ Brood Combi Box (Honey Supers have been taken off in August !)
Any Honey flow from a bit of late Heather, or Ivy, is for the Bees... but Winter Fondant is needed after 1:1 and 2:1 is taken down by Bees.
    Re Feeding Regime.
Warre is an upside down concept, so Beek is a bit 🙃 too ??? Can't figure out Fondant position...

Hello MMB, I am sorry hear of the queen’s passing, we loved her here in Canada too. I don’t know if I can deal with this “king” thing, sounds wrong! Anyway, regarding the fondant. The bees will move up as they feed on the honey so it makes sense to put the fondant at the top. That’s where the cluster should be if they are running out of food. Hope that helps! Good luck!

It is generally given that 2 litres of water is 2kg. Useful for us metric folk without a weighing scale to hand. One bag of sugar to 2 litres of water. Sweet.

Do you end up with some syrup in the honey take?

Generally no, because I usually only feed the new hives in the first year. Then they use that honey over the winter. I won't take that box regardless and will only process boxes added after the feeding stopped. Thanks for watching!
