Dustin - you have, in just over 5 minutes, covered over 5 hours of the standard wood turning videos, that are plentiful on YT. The projects turned out great, showed a variety of woods, finishes, and techniques. The best part of this video is it is only 5:50. Looking forward to your next challenge. How about turning a bowl or plate? Legs for a table? I can't wait. - Annie
Thanks so much for showing those other mandrels. I can't get all the teeth on the stock live center spur to bite in to Rockler's not so square blanks they sell. I'll try some of those accessories and see it I can get it to work.
Hey Dustin I recieved the fridge magnet you sent me a couple of weeks back, It takes pride of place on the fridge door now. Oh yeah and that was another great video, I need to get myself a lathe one of these days.
Awesome Dustin. Thats the way i like to see turning videos. Fast and to the point. Also prefer rockler over woodcraft any day. Way better customer service
Great start, good turning! Though if it were me I'd want that rest much, much closer to the work, like, right up to it. That's all I'd say! Love your videos.
Great job. just one suggestion. You should try to get the tool rest closer to your work. This gives your tools better stabilization while turning. Great job.
It felt like an alright distance with these carbide tools. Wasn't sure how close I should get with them. I'll try it closer on the next project. Thanks very much!
This is great. I just started turning and have a similar lathe. What you are using for dust collection on this. I have been fudging together pieces of my shop vac and using clamps to hold it to the bed. I see you have some contraption behind the bed that is sparking my interest. Just found your channel and you bet i hit that Sub button :) Thanks
Just curious about torching certain woods? Is that purple heart and does torching it help bring out the color? Absolutely love your content btw, very succinct and always useful.
I have links to all the stuff I used. This lathe is great for beginners and so are the tools. I would say it's probably the cheapest way to get into turning!
It was purpe heart wood. You need to heat it up to bring out the pigment of the purple. Otherwise it just turns brown. Get a finish on it quicker than normal and don't let it sit in the sun.
I want to go on record as saying I did NOT purposely put it at 4:20 and it means absolutely nothing. I have snuck that unicorn into countless other videos.
I forgot to mention the unicorn over your right hand at 2:34. It can be seen there in all its glory multiple times throughout the entire video. And, of course, at 4:20. But I already said that as this was the first video I ever watched and saw the unicorn the first time through.
This isn't ground breaking, but I had to start somewhere! More details in the description. Dank you for vatching and ave a nice day!
I like how they are all different, an eclectic set :)
Thanks John!

Thanks! I try not to waste anyone's time. I wish I could have shown a tip or trick, but since this was my first go at turning, I don't have any yet!.
That is impressive for a beginner. Good vid. Thanks.
I like your pencil holder.Sure beats adding a rare earth magnet for every pencil in the shop!
You sir are very talented!

Dang Rockler hooked you up. That's awesome.

learning turning and burning
Great start, good turning! Though if it were me I'd want that rest much, much closer to the work, like, right up to it. That's all I'd say! Love your videos.
I was on the fence on how close to go with those carbide tools. I'll try closer next time. Thanks!
Great job. just one suggestion. You should try to get the tool rest closer to your work. This gives your tools better stabilization while turning. Great job.
I noticed that too, wasn't sure tho, his chisels look pretty darn long
It felt like an alright distance with these carbide tools. Wasn't sure how close I should get with them. I'll try it closer on the next project. Thanks very much!

Super nice !
Thanks!
Just curious about torching certain woods? Is that purple heart and does torching it help bring out the color? Absolutely love your content btw, very succinct and always useful.
Yes the fire oxidizes the wood quickly to bring out the colour. Thanks very much!
Love your videos!!! Keep up the great work!! Is it purple heart that you hit with the torch to bring out the color?
Yes it speeds up the oxidization and brings out the colour. It burns quickly so you need to sand it down a little after. Thanks for watching!
Well, looks like you've got the gist of it. :)
Thanks!
Don't you love those chisels? Good work!
They are great! Thanks for watching!!
Wow.... nice homemade pizza.... great vid Dustin, but hey, don't have a beer while operating the turning machine.. 😃
That was all shot long after the turning was complete haha! Thanks!
just curious, how many boxes do you have around the house now?
I wana start turning aswell. where can I get some good information on how to go about it? such as buy the right lath and tools etc
I have links to all the stuff I used. This lathe is great for beginners and so are the tools. I would say it's probably the cheapest way to get into turning!
why you put a unicorn on your lathe at 4:20 ?
I have no idea how I hadn't found your channel yet. Great work dude! sub'd (BTW the ILTMS FB group led me here)
+Wm. Walker Co. Thanks! Glad to have you around!
Now I'm wondering if there has been easter eggs in your other videos. Guess I'll have to re-watch them. ;^)
haha! Ill never tell! Thanks for watching!
Inspiring...
Appreciate that! Thanks!
was the torch used to add colour, or to harden the wood?
It was purpe heart wood. You need to heat it up to bring out the pigment of the purple. Otherwise it just turns brown. Get a finish on it quicker than normal and don't let it sit in the sun.
When you torch Purple Heart, it brings the purple colour out
Круто!
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice unicorn at 4:20
I want to go on record as saying I did NOT purposely put it at 4:20 and it means absolutely nothing. I have snuck that unicorn into countless other videos.
I'll be sure to watch for the unicorn in future videos.
+TheCam444 haha! Thanks!

I came here to ask about that myself.
