In the 1930’s and 1940’s, she was a regular young lady, she was not a beautiful young lady as Marylin Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Fontaine, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Olivia De Havilland, Vivien Leigh, Hedy Lamarr, Lana Turner, Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall, Ann Blyth, and Deanna Durbin.

I didn't see Liz Taylor or Ava Gardner. They say Taylor was so beautiful she was a freak of nature! More beautiful in person then on film you can't help but steer at her.
She didn't really come into bloom until the 1950's though she was still awful young in the 1940's.
Well I certainly agree with Rita Hayworth having the Number 1 spot. Never rated Lauren Bacall though.

Rita is definitely number one from all angles when photographed. Very nice selection of all her photos.
You almost have to qualify whose beauty was the most natural (Ingrid Bergman, Ava Gardner), whose needed a little cosmetic help (Gene Tierney, Lana Turner), and whose depended a great deal on Hollywood make-up and hair artistry: Rita Hayworth. They are all beautiful in their own way.

Marcello, thanks for this delectable video. I fully agree with Rita/Hedy/Gene/Lauren but I would take Bergman out. A wonderful actress and warm personality, but very ordinary in the looks dept., and often matronly at that. I think it would be criminal not to include Veronica Lake and Ava Gardner on this list, but then there'd be six. Oh well, it's too impossible to remove one from such a stellar half dozen.
That's sad to take Ingrid out. She was a fine woman, beautiful in her own natural ways. She has a split image of Grace Kelly.

Yes, it was a bad break, her decision. After 26 years together and closest friends who have been to so many places and holidays, she left me because she had this crazy fixation that I was having an affair with a Chinese woman, wtf really? I didn't hold her by the chains, I accepted defeat. She was impossible to hold in my hand. It's been almost 2 years since she's gone, even though she promised we'd never dump each other. So, yeah, me, an affair? Unbelievable! 🙄

Bergman, Bacall do not belong in such a list ...look at them and you can't see a flaw here or there? Rita had electrolysis to remove hair from her brow and upper lips, so the number one is Hedy...flawless.

Their all very beautiful, but Lana Turner was the most beautiful actress in the 1940's in my opinion, and she didn't even make the list.

the 40ies are full of incredible beauties on screen. Top: Vivien Leigh, Hedy Lamarr and Gene Tierney. Followed by Ava Gardner,Lana Turner, Maureen o´Hara and Dorothy Dandridge. Though it seems that there is not such beauty anymore i bet if you make up Scarlett Johanssen she would look as beautiful (look at Liza Minelli in New York, Faye Dunaway in Chinatown, Kate Beckinsale in Pearl Harbour; Kim Basinger in LA Confidental ...) Even Bette Davis (Jezebel, Juarez, Now Voyager) looked better than nowadays stars do.

I was surprised to learn that most of the Hollywood beauties of the 1940s married for the first time when they were very young, between 19 and 25. A large number and possibly a majority were married early in WWII, and most did not marry servicemen. I suppose women married earlier in those days and usually, the men were older and wealthy. Most eventually got divorced after the war. Today, men and women marry later in life, if a all.

The Jim. No actresses today can be compared to yesterday’s actors who were not only physically gorgeous but had class, talent, and definitely great personalities something that today actresses lack, big time. Today’s actresses are mediocre in talent and are NOT nearly beautiful in any way, shape or form. The Golden Age of Hollywood was the GREATEST IN HOLLYWOOD HISTORY and, sadly, it will never comeback......Love to see photos of actresses as well as male actors from that time when Hollywood knew how to choose their actors and their talent and it was before my time on this earth! I wasn’t even born but love ALL these actors from an era that is gone for sure. Ashamed, truly ashamed.
