The best part of lookism is that Daniel learns that he was not only ugly, but a rude person to people like his mother. So he learns that handsome body or not, he has to self improve, and he actually does! He makes friends in his true body and improves as a person. Much unlike true beauty.
@@LeBreads When I ended up dropping it a couple years back it was locked in loops of overly long arcs about unimportant characters (like the haircut/teen father guy which I was interested in somewhat but literally it was months worth of chapters on that 1 guy who wasn't even a main at the time and when it ended BAM another one around the corner) and long arcs of fighting homeless crime family's/pimps/hustlers. Like tbf I'm a person who didn't care about where the powers came from or anything but I loved the problem of the week emotional learning parts with Hyung-Suk/Daniel so all the tangents eventually made me give it up.
Fun fact: True Beauty was originally supposed to have a Male protagonist, but it was changed to a girl so it wouldn’t be compared (as much) to Lookism!
Teachers in Korea will actually ignore bullying in favour of acting as if nothing is happening. It's because they value the school's reputation more than the student's wellbeing.
Teachers in anywhere else in the world will also ignore bullying by also acting as if nothing happened or just by minimizing the problem just because... They just don't care and don't wanna deal with it. Might even put the blame on the victim somehow.

lookism is an absolutely top tier webtoon. though later it does become more centered around gangs and stuff, the arcs it has have such good plot and story telling. Edit: Not only that, but it also has MANY different life lessons and etc.
I loved the og Lookism back when it had life lessons and self improvement stuff. Now it's nothing but over the top ultra instinct (that's an actual thing in the webtoon) gang war nonsense. Jay? Duke? Who are those guys? Continuing the plot line with Crystal, why she has 2 bodies, and how it relates to Daniel? Nah, let's have a whole arc about forgiving the drug addict chick who throws s-assault parties, that's far more riveting.

@@pokemonfan1123 PLEASE do! the start of it revolves around discrimination based on how you look (hence the name, lookism) but after around 200 chapters, the plot swerves really far and becomes INFINETLY better (in my opinion, some people like the mundane first hundred chapters) with way more action and drama and fighting.
@@pokemonfan1123 it's a great webtoon. A really good part of it which Chalupa could not point out from just 10 episodes, is that Daniel has character development. Most webtoons or even long shows are too afraid to change their protagonist's archetype, but Lookism is not shy. They make Daniel acknowledge his mistakes, try to improve and even have a lovely touch of reminding you that "pretty Daniel and original Daniel are the same person, you like it or not", by touching on the trauma he has been through and how it controls him even in his new body. It's a very good read, super strength and Deus ex machina mechanics aside, the characters feel like actual people with their own goals and motivations, typically appropriate for high school students (be the coolest, be the strongest, be the most beautiful etc).
I forgot Zack was this sucky character. He's one of my favorites now bc of how much he's grown and how he tried to help Jinho(if you read the Jinho arc you know how that turned out :/)
Yeah, ikr. All the characters in the beginning change and develop so much that you would never expect it just from reading the first 10 episodes. I feel like the characters are really what breaks the deal with lookism.
i love how in his first aparence he wanted to kick lil daniel, and now when he needs to team up with the hansan guy he was literally praying to budda for patience XDDD
Lookism did go way off the rails with the gangster fighting storyline but I love how Daniel as a character was handled. I really like how Zoe fell in love with Daniel’s original body thanks to his kind personality and I like how Daniel improved on his own physique by training hard and working out.

It's really funny though how it goes from 0-100 over the course of the series because it starts off as a lil high school glow up but then evolves into gangs and kidnapping and prison and etc. Daniel and the other characters have really good character arcs though especially Zoe and Zack. It's good but it's just s u p e r long lmao.
I would argue that the current arcs are pretty weak. Like the story became "gang vs gang" after the 2nd Affliate arc with most of the characters loosing their personalities

I haven't caught up as I stopped reading it around when the OG "piggy" Daniel was put in that place for experiments or whatever it was (it was a while ago lol) but I tried rereading it recently and I stopped reading around the end of the Hostel arc/ God Dog arc (whichever one is the furthest into the story lol) because they just start throwing in so many new characters and it's hard to keep up and put focus on the original ones and the plot just goes everywhere. Like, I enjoyed the exposure on the lives of homeless people and gangs and etc but after a bit it's just like; "wasn't this just supposed to be about a guy learning to love himself and respect what he has? And make new friends and start a new life with people who like him for who he is?" Like, I appreciate the incorporation of plots that refer to (what I'm assuming are) actual Korean issues and norms (?) but at some point it just becomes too much. Maybe it's just me but it's hard to keep up with all that stuff when you're also trying to remember who's who and where and when they were incorporated into the story. (I realize my original comment was k i n d of misleading as I forgot to mention that I haven't caught up to the current updates lol but from where I left off on the story that was my opinion at that point)
The problem with both webtoons is that they got too long. True Beauty also started well, and could’ve been good if her character showed any sort of growth or development from her low self esteem. About 30 chapters in it all went to shit. Lookism is amazing but should’ve ended before it got too drawn out and boring.

If the MC from that had some actual character growth then it would have been heaps and loads better but she constantly had everyone else do things for her. Like, I read it until the end hoping that she'd actually stand up for herself or show people what she looked like and own it but nope. It's just disappointing :/
the second bully group (the one with zack and zoe) were such POS in the first few arcs, i'm so glad they've turned around and changed for the better because they've since become my favorite characters in the series, especially Zack. i'm glad the creator didn't make them into one-dimensional villains with no redemption and actually allowed them to grow as decent human beings.

The Hostel arc was probably the saddest arc along Jiho's character arc like the line "The story of Hostel was a tragedy from the beginning to the end" has been engraved into my mind. Also Jiho definitely needed a wake up call but he definitely didn't deserve the hell which he had to go through in the juvenile prison
In the case of Jiho, I think he was a bit of a lost cause (as much as I hate to use that phrase for kids) because every time he kept taking one step forward, he pushed himself back and he hid behind all his friends instead of being like Duke and Daniel and making the effort to improve. He was materialistic and didn't even see big Daniel and Zack as friends but instead, as a show of status. It's realistic, of course, not everyone is going to do their best for themselves but he was irritating at best. Zack, both Daniels and Vasco all stood up for him and he didn't do anything but cause trouble for them and get involved in illegal happenings because he wanted to try and "prove himself". I can't say he didn't deserve his time in prison (he did try to kill Daniel by pushing him off a 5 storey building and then wished he wouldn't wake up, you can't excuse that) but the deterioration of his character during his sentence was sad nonetheless

At first few chapters (or episode in anime?)of lookism when he learned he can switch bodies, i remember that he said that "why am i speaking so politely at myself" or something along those lines. I think it's a good addition that he has never been even kind to himself because the people around him were assholes to him due to his appearance.
Lookism has such a special place in my heart. I began reading it when I was like 14, when I first found out about webtoon, and I still read it now that I'm 19. I've restarted it twice. Whenever I read it I want to transform myself and learn how to fight too, even as a girl
Funny thing, I watched the anime twice. Yes, it does have an anime on Netflix. I will never read this webcomic cause it's to long, but gladly watch the anime. The song in the last episode of the anime was just awesome. Side note: the blonde kid is a freaking angel.
Lookism is such a great webtoon. It only gets better and better, it touches many issues, gambling, the idol industry, stalkers etc. And the best of all is that you see Daniel have character development. There's so many webtoons that have a character archetype and do nothing with it, but here the whole point is Daniel's journey. It's great!!
It's irritating to see many people who say lookism got off point. When it genuinely never did, if any of you bothered to read into the characters you'd understand that lookism is literally imbedded into every arc and villain. Vasco at the beginning based everybody was a bad guy because of how attractive they were. Then he changed his perspective on what a "Bad guy" even is when he noticed that every "bad guy" was sacrificing their goodness for the sake of somebody important like Johan and jake kim. When jake kim appeared everybody assumed he was just a random villain who did bad things for no readon but the entire time he was fighting to save somebody who he cared about. To assume somebody is a bad person without knowing their story is lookism. Johan was merciless, he gave up everyhting. Everybody viewed him as a bad guy. But he just wanted to save his mothers eyes, everybody who assumed he was a bad guy didn't know his story. This entire story is a masterpiece if you just take some time to understand all the characters, and its okay to drop things because you dont like it. But don't say its slowed down or it got bad after the gang stuff because it didn't. Lookism is by far the greatest thing I've ever read.
Seeing how far Lookism's art style has come is insane. Granted, it kinda had to change, considering the story has become something completely different at this point.
I saw the anime (?) of Lookism, and while their was seemingly wayy too much time spent just beating him up, it was nice. I really liked the finale, and honestly liked that rap guy more than the MC. Spoilers below: Disappointed that the only woman that liked him as his true self was also overweight (?). Not sure where it’s gonna go, but I like it. (And it’s pretty funny)
If you’re on a track of really good webtoons, Eleceed is literally the greatest thing I’ve ever read, it’s got such cool action and really funny cat jokes!
This was my favourite webtoon when I first started on the app. The character development, the drama, the fight scenes and humour were all unmatched. The characters are completely unrecognisable at the beginning compared to recent chapters
Lookism has some of the best world building when it comes to webtoons/manhwas, it isn't recycled garbage and even though it started off as a drama the progression shows. The manhwa doesn't forget important characters, usually returning in future arcs and each individual favorite character all either have their own continuation or conclusion. 10/10 loved catching up
This was fun. I love Lookism even tho I haven't catched up yet. It is a really well-written story with amazing characters. At the moment, my favorite is Vasco, I love him so much.

Thank you Mr. Chalupa for a fair review of lookism, it's really a good long story and the characters get so much development. The personalities you read in the beginning change throughout the entire series and it's amazing. Also I recommend reading viral hit too, it is more focused on the mc building himself from the ground up via training rigorously for a period and then deciding to take that into a way to give help both to his mom and others like him. The plot far in it is really deep but very well done and the characters also gain development points at good parts where it effortlessly fits in. (Sorry for the long comment, I just really like these two series and am a long time reader since midway into the end part of middle school 💀)
Idk if you're taking requests but Lalin's curse is a really good mystery/supernatural webtoon that has absolutely stunning art! Sadly though it hasn't updated in like two years but I would definitely recommend reading it and possibly even making a video on it if you have the time!

i adore lookism and another webtoon I like is "My In-Laws are Obsessed with Me", and I think the main character is extremely rational and the webtoon does a good job of exploring her situation and thoughts very well
Finally reading an amazing webtoons. One of my favourites for great writing, characters, development, and comedy. Also with some really sad and serious arcs that keep me up at night.
Lookism , I really really appreciated how they portrayed the Mc, he was a good person partially but also an hypocrite, the scenes with his mother just destroyed my heart and the fact that he faces his bully with his own body was just beautiful,i connected to this story at a level that most won’t even imagine due the person I used to be , but I believe I have changed at least I’m doing my best , people if you’ve loving parents treat them with respect and love, it is a gift you might lose one day
I have a webtoon suggestion if you'd like to hear it! It's called omniscient reader and it's based on a novel, the story itself has gained a pretty big fandom so if you wanna read something good I do recommend it. basically, a dude whos the only reader of an apocalypse novel gets transported into it, with him knowing what happens he tries his best to survive and somehow convince the main character to side with him
I was so similar to daniel when he was bullied as a teenager. I treated my mother like shit and I owe her so so so much for everything she has done for me. This manwha made me cry so much as I truly understood the emotions behind the characters. The characters had depth.
What I like about the story is based on how they all focused on each character that was introduced that slowly shows character development in each chapter (+ learning more facts about martial arts in that series is literally cool but there are more manwhas that the author has made which I highly recommend reading Viral Hit and Manager Kim)
I definitely recommend Weak Hero! It’s a fantastic action webtoon with well developed characters and plot. I’ve seen Lookism compared to it a few times (the action/fighting parts), and seeing this video makes me want to start Lookism, haha. I really do recommend Weak Hero. It’s absolutely amazing.

I think some bullying victims find embarrassment from the help of an adult (i.e. teacher or parent) likely because their bullies verbally and emotionally isolate them with shame, power, status, or some form of control (one example is weaponizing a topic the victim is sensitive with); and manipulate them to thinking they are weak for asking for help (even culture, peer-pressure, desire to be accepted by standing alone could play a part in this). Moreover, another reason could be the bullies blackmailing or promising the victims that they will retaliate at the expense of asking for help. And last (of what I know), victims assume that the adults will just create a scene, making others know which would make the victims self-conscious; or be a very temporal help, like it might mitigate the bullying for a moment but the victim will still be bullied in the end. The bottom line is that shame really is a big factor. NOTE: I'm not an expert in this kind of stuff.. I'm giving out my thoughts

One of my favorite things is the character development with Zoe, Zack, Vasco (ily bby), Daniel, etc. I also appreciate the changes in art style. I remember when this was all about people always judging people by their looks; if you're ugly, then you're the lowest of the low, and if you're handsome, you can get away with anything. Then it turned into this battle manwha with fighting styles I've never heard or learned of, there's gangs, other body swappers, and whatever the hell that Jiho arc is. At least Daniel's original body turned cute freakin... 200+ chapters or so.
The best thing about lookism is that Daniel actually slowly grows as a person and looses weight realistically and slowly cause habits don’t change easily. The worst thing about lookism is that it’s now become a fight arc and it’s episode 300. I’ll definitely continue later cause im too far invested, but it’s been over 2 years since i last read it
honestly lookism is amazing due to the simple fact that IT RAN OUT OF BACKSTORIES im pretty sure all the major and even somewhat minor side characters have a a full blow 30+ chapters or so dedicated to them its less about lookism now and more about fights and it got to a point where either take the super realistice path of fighting or the ok people are now super human and can go ultra instinct.
Gonna be honest- really liked Lookism at the start it was really neat! Was actually interesting in the story unlike other webtoons lel :P but later down the line it does get a bit off from the whole school and y'know, actual character stuff and more into fighting so if thats your thing- cool! But it kinda got meh whenever it was just constant fighting- was kinda hoping it went back to less gang stuff lol still a good read though but if its gotten any better(or just on track with what it was goin with) please do tell :]
I agree. I also enjoyed the earlier chapters when it was more about the characters' personal growth and dropped it when it became more focused on the gang wars. Action comics just aren't forme I guess.

Seasons of Blossom i don't know if this webtoon will make the most entertaining content, but i want to recommend it because it's my favorite comic and it's actually a good story it's actually 4 stories that intertwine at the end (hence "seasons"), and it starts off a bit dumb with a fake relationship plot, but the message is about bullying and suicide prevention, so i still think it's worth reading. it becomes less about romance by the end so hopefully you can enjoy that, and the artwork is nice. it's also the only comic that made me cry lol. also the first story is literally the "me and the bad bitch i pulled by being autistic" meme, so hopefully that makes it more enjoyable :) EDIT: mentioning this comic after your comment about bullying - this comic does a really good job portraying how bullying affects people. also, i like that the characters in Seasons of Blossom actually feel like normal teenagers.

It's a sweet story. Hanmin one damn i cried so much. Gaeul one its so bitter sweet. And lastly dongchae is a very good way to end the story. Every character got a good closure. It's a very realistic story. I highly recommend it . Sry for the English. 🙂

I'm reading this now, am about half way through. I love how much the characters change, some for the better, some for the worse. People you hated become people you love, people you love (or atleast liked) become people you hate. And we always love Jay.
I've been victim of bullying at school my whole childhood and I tell from self experience why victims bullying do no tell parents or teachers they are getting bullied in case someone is wondering. I can't tell for everyone, so most of it is based on self experience, also, there are lot of reasonst that a could mention and the reasons may also vary depending the coutry, so I'll focus on how it is in my country and the main reasons for it. As for the teacher, one reason is because it mostly don't work or can even get things worse for you. There are several reasons for that, but mostly is because the teacher can not do much about it, because they have not the power need for or just because they simply don't wanna get involved in that. It may sound irresponsible, but if we look at the point of view of a teacher, getting involved in it will just bring more problems in their lives that they rather avoid and also, how can teacher take care and control 1500,2000,3000 students that most of the time don't even have a basic education or discipline at home. Also, even if they do something, the max punishiment would a suspension (which is pretty much like a holiday for bullies), or in the worst case scenario, both the bully and the victim get punished , or just the victim get punished( it happened to me), which as I said before, will only get things worse. Now as for not telling the parents, it has nothing to do with being embarrasing, actually most kids want to tell their parents, but the results are usually pretty bad, unless the parents have the resources to move out with the kid to another place, which is not the case for most families. The reason can be because the kid don't want to trouble their parents with that and also cause telling your parents will just make the bullying a whole lot worse ( I did the mistake to tell my mom) This happens because , it will trigger the rage of the bully, and who do you think will take all this rage upon? yes, the poor kid which WILL NOT have their parents around to hold their hands. The parent will not be at the school, but the bully will, and the bullying will be 10X worse then it was before. and everytime your parent try to do something, the bullying will get worse. So the way to "solve this" is not telling your parents. These are basically the two main reasons of why victims of bullying might not tell to teachers or parents they are being victims of bullying, again, I am telling for everyone, your case might be different, also, if your family is poor or not , it also can differ the reasons, but generally that's what happen around here.

Who says they aren’t paying attention to the plot? When PTJ illustrates characters(both men and women) he tries to make them look attractive for fan service(sort of crazy when you consider what this webtoon is called but whatever). You think a lot of the guys aren’t talking about the female characters like that? Come on. Most of the people who are doing deep dive analysis of the plot and characters are women. Thirsting, especially on this webtoon isn’t gendered, don’t make it so.

LOOKISM was indeed better than true beauty as the character writing, stroylines and most importantly societal norms depictions , IT doesn't only revolves around the discription of daniel being fat and being bullied but a lot as story goes on CHARACTER ARC of each character is so BETTER
Another thing I love about this webtoon is how it’s the progenitor of the PTJ verse. Another comic I love from this verse is questism. I’ll keep this as vague as possible but questism starts because someone gives up their gang in a certain area. This makes the area go into chaos and in this chaos is how questism starts. Not only is it questism but so many comic are in the ptj verse, like: manager Kim, how to fight, my life as a loser, Baekxx, juvenile offender and others I haven’t read.

The best part of lookism is that Daniel learns that he was not only ugly, but a rude person to people like his mother. So he learns that handsome body or not, he has to self improve, and he actually does! He makes friends in his true body and improves as a person. Much unlike true beauty.

@@LeBreads When I ended up dropping it a couple years back it was locked in loops of overly long arcs about unimportant characters (like the haircut/teen father guy which I was interested in somewhat but literally it was months worth of chapters on that 1 guy who wasn't even a main at the time and when it ended BAM another one around the corner) and long arcs of fighting homeless crime family's/pimps/hustlers. Like tbf I'm a person who didn't care about where the powers came from or anything but I loved the problem of the week emotional learning parts with Hyung-Suk/Daniel so all the tangents eventually made me give it up.
Fun fact: True Beauty was originally supposed to have a Male protagonist, but it was changed to a girl so it wouldn’t be compared (as much) to Lookism!

@@pokemonfan1123 PLEASE do! the start of it revolves around discrimination based on how you look (hence the name, lookism) but after around 200 chapters, the plot swerves really far and becomes INFINETLY better (in my opinion, some people like the mundane first hundred chapters) with way more action and drama and fighting.
@@pokemonfan1123 it's a great webtoon. A really good part of it which Chalupa could not point out from just 10 episodes, is that Daniel has character development. Most webtoons or even long shows are too afraid to change their protagonist's archetype, but Lookism is not shy. They make Daniel acknowledge his mistakes, try to improve and even have a lovely touch of reminding you that "pretty Daniel and original Daniel are the same person, you like it or not", by touching on the trauma he has been through and how it controls him even in his new body. It's a very good read, super strength and Deus ex machina mechanics aside, the characters feel like actual people with their own goals and motivations, typically appropriate for high school students (be the coolest, be the strongest, be the most beautiful etc).
I forgot Zack was this sucky character. He's one of my favorites now bc of how much he's grown and how he tried to help Jinho(if you read the Jinho arc you know how that turned out :/)
Yeah, ikr. All the characters in the beginning change and develop so much that you would never expect it just from reading the first 10 episodes. I feel like the characters are really what breaks the deal with lookism.
The jinho arc was tragic watching the kid spiral and dig his own grave into hell.

Lookism did go way off the rails with the gangster fighting storyline but I love how Daniel as a character was handled. I really like how Zoe fell in love with Daniel’s original body thanks to his kind personality and I like how Daniel improved on his own physique by training hard and working out.

It's really funny though how it goes from 0-100 over the course of the series because it starts off as a lil high school glow up but then evolves into gangs and kidnapping and prison and etc. Daniel and the other characters have really good character arcs though especially Zoe and Zack. It's good but it's just s u p e r long lmao.
I would argue that the current arcs are pretty weak. Like the story became "gang vs gang" after the 2nd Affliate arc with most of the characters loosing their personalities

I haven't caught up as I stopped reading it around when the OG "piggy" Daniel was put in that place for experiments or whatever it was (it was a while ago lol) but I tried rereading it recently and I stopped reading around the end of the Hostel arc/ God Dog arc (whichever one is the furthest into the story lol) because they just start throwing in so many new characters and it's hard to keep up and put focus on the original ones and the plot just goes everywhere. Like, I enjoyed the exposure on the lives of homeless people and gangs and etc but after a bit it's just like; "wasn't this just supposed to be about a guy learning to love himself and respect what he has? And make new friends and start a new life with people who like him for who he is?" Like, I appreciate the incorporation of plots that refer to (what I'm assuming are) actual Korean issues and norms (?) but at some point it just becomes too much. Maybe it's just me but it's hard to keep up with all that stuff when you're also trying to remember who's who and where and when they were incorporated into the story. (I realize my original comment was k i n d of misleading as I forgot to mention that I haven't caught up to the current updates lol but from where I left off on the story that was my opinion at that point)
The problem with both webtoons is that they got too long. True Beauty also started well, and could’ve been good if her character showed any sort of growth or development from her low self esteem. About 30 chapters in it all went to shit. Lookism is amazing but should’ve ended before it got too drawn out and boring.

If the MC from that had some actual character growth then it would have been heaps and loads better but she constantly had everyone else do things for her. Like, I read it until the end hoping that she'd actually stand up for herself or show people what she looked like and own it but nope. It's just disappointing :/

the second bully group (the one with zack and zoe) were such POS in the first few arcs, i'm so glad they've turned around and changed for the better because they've since become my favorite characters in the series, especially Zack. i'm glad the creator didn't make them into one-dimensional villains with no redemption and actually allowed them to grow as decent human beings.

The Hostel arc was probably the saddest arc along Jiho's character arc like the line "The story of Hostel was a tragedy from the beginning to the end" has been engraved into my mind. Also Jiho definitely needed a wake up call but he definitely didn't deserve the hell which he had to go through in the juvenile prison

In the case of Jiho, I think he was a bit of a lost cause (as much as I hate to use that phrase for kids) because every time he kept taking one step forward, he pushed himself back and he hid behind all his friends instead of being like Duke and Daniel and making the effort to improve. He was materialistic and didn't even see big Daniel and Zack as friends but instead, as a show of status. It's realistic, of course, not everyone is going to do their best for themselves but he was irritating at best. Zack, both Daniels and Vasco all stood up for him and he didn't do anything but cause trouble for them and get involved in illegal happenings because he wanted to try and "prove himself". I can't say he didn't deserve his time in prison (he did try to kill Daniel by pushing him off a 5 storey building and then wished he wouldn't wake up, you can't excuse that) but the deterioration of his character during his sentence was sad nonetheless

Lookism, Viral Hit, Manager Kim, and My Life as a Loser are all a part of the same universe! They’re all extremely good reads and the connections you make between them all are phenomenal!! Aside from that webtoon universe, I recommend reading Windbreaker, Weak Hero, and Get Schooled!

At first few chapters (or episode in anime?)of lookism when he learned he can switch bodies, i remember that he said that "why am i speaking so politely at myself" or something along those lines. I think it's a good addition that he has never been even kind to himself because the people around him were assholes to him due to his appearance.
Lookism has such a special place in my heart. I began reading it when I was like 14, when I first found out about webtoon, and I still read it now that I'm 19. I've restarted it twice. Whenever I read it I want to transform myself and learn how to fight too, even as a girl

Lookism is such a great webtoon. It only gets better and better, it touches many issues, gambling, the idol industry, stalkers etc. And the best of all is that you see Daniel have character development. There's so many webtoons that have a character archetype and do nothing with it, but here the whole point is Daniel's journey. It's great!!

It's irritating to see many people who say lookism got off point. When it genuinely never did, if any of you bothered to read into the characters you'd understand that lookism is literally imbedded into every arc and villain.
Vasco at the beginning based everybody was a bad guy because of how attractive they were. Then he changed his perspective on what a "Bad guy" even is when he noticed that every "bad guy" was sacrificing their goodness for the sake of somebody important like Johan and jake kim.
When jake kim appeared everybody assumed he was just a random villain who did bad things for no readon but the entire time he was fighting to save somebody who he cared about. To assume somebody is a bad person without knowing their story is lookism.
Johan was merciless, he gave up everyhting. Everybody viewed him as a bad guy. But he just wanted to save his mothers eyes, everybody who assumed he was a bad guy didn't know his story.
This entire story is a masterpiece if you just take some time to understand all the characters, and its okay to drop things because you dont like it. But don't say its slowed down or it got bad after the gang stuff because it didn't.
Lookism is by far the greatest thing I've ever read.
I understand your point... but you have to admit the story got really complicated and hard to follow with everything going on...

This was my favourite webtoon when I first started on the app. The character development, the drama, the fight scenes and humour were all unmatched. The characters are completely unrecognisable at the beginning compared to recent chapters
Lookism has some of the best world building when it comes to webtoons/manhwas, it isn't recycled garbage and even though it started off as a drama the progression shows. The manhwa doesn't forget important characters, usually returning in future arcs and each individual favorite character all either have their own continuation or conclusion. 10/10 loved catching up
This was fun. I love Lookism even tho I haven't catched up yet. It is a really well-written story with amazing characters. At the moment, my favorite is Vasco, I love him so much.

Thank you Mr. Chalupa for a fair review of lookism, it's really a good long story and the characters get so much development. The personalities you read in the beginning change throughout the entire series and it's amazing. Also I recommend reading viral hit too, it is more focused on the mc building himself from the ground up via training rigorously for a period and then deciding to take that into a way to give help both to his mom and others like him. The plot far in it is really deep but very well done and the characters also gain development points at good parts where it effortlessly fits in. (Sorry for the long comment, I just really like these two series and am a long time reader since midway into the end part of middle school 💀)
The creator made another webtoon called “Viral Hit” that I like too, it’s kinda the same but with more martial arts, it’s so funny too lol (imo).

Lookism , I really really appreciated how they portrayed the Mc, he was a good person partially but also an hypocrite, the scenes with his mother just destroyed my heart and the fact that he faces his bully with his own body was just beautiful,i connected to this story at a level that most won’t even imagine due the person I used to be , but I believe I have changed at least I’m doing my best , people if you’ve loving parents treat them with respect and love, it is a gift you might lose one day

It's called omniscient reader and it's based on a novel, the story itself has gained a pretty big fandom so if you wanna read something good I do recommend it. basically, a dude whos the only reader of an apocalypse novel gets transported into it, with him knowing what happens he tries his best to survive and somehow convince the main character to side with him
as a fan, everyone should read it!!

I was so similar to daniel when he was bullied as a teenager. I treated my mother like shit and I owe her so so so much for everything she has done for me. This manwha made me cry so much as I truly understood the emotions behind the characters. The characters had depth.

What I like about the story is based on how they all focused on each character that was introduced that slowly shows character development in each chapter (+ learning more facts about martial arts in that series is literally cool but there are more manwhas that the author has made which I highly recommend reading Viral Hit and Manager Kim)
I definitely recommend Weak Hero! It’s a fantastic action webtoon with well developed characters and plot. I’ve seen Lookism compared to it a few times (the action/fighting parts), and seeing this video makes me want to start Lookism, haha. I really do recommend Weak Hero. It’s absolutely amazing.

I think some bullying victims find embarrassment from the help of an adult (i.e. teacher or parent) likely because their bullies verbally and emotionally isolate them with shame, power, status, or some form of control (one example is weaponizing a topic the victim is sensitive with); and manipulate them to thinking they are weak for asking for help (even culture, peer-pressure, desire to be accepted by standing alone could play a part in this). Moreover, another reason could be the bullies blackmailing or promising the victims that they will retaliate at the expense of asking for help. And last (of what I know), victims assume that the adults will just create a scene, making others know which would make the victims self-conscious; or be a very temporal help, like it might mitigate the bullying for a moment but the victim will still be bullied in the end. The bottom line is that shame really is a big factor. NOTE: I'm not an expert in this kind of stuff.. I'm giving out my thoughts

The best thing about lookism is that Daniel actually slowly grows as a person and looses weight realistically and slowly cause habits don’t change easily. The worst thing about lookism is that it’s now become a fight arc and it’s episode 300. I’ll definitely continue later cause im too far invested, but it’s been over 2 years since i last read it

honestly lookism is amazing due to the simple fact that IT RAN OUT OF BACKSTORIES im pretty sure all the major and even somewhat minor side characters have a a full blow 30+ chapters or so dedicated to them its less about lookism now and more about fights and it got to a point where either take the super realistice path of fighting or the ok people are now super human and can go ultra instinct.

Took me 2 weeks to reach 438 chapters of it and boy I binge read it crazy. Lookism has to be one of the finest story out there.
Gonna be honest- really liked Lookism at the start it was really neat! Was actually interesting in the story unlike other webtoons lel :P but later down the line it does get a bit off from the whole school and y'know, actual character stuff and more into fighting so if thats your thing- cool! But it kinda got meh whenever it was just constant fighting- was kinda hoping it went back to less gang stuff lol still a good read though but if its gotten any better(or just on track with what it was goin with) please do tell :]
The story was always supposed to be focused on gang fighting, and it's not slowing anytime too. So drop the manhaw.

I agree. I also enjoyed the earlier chapters when it was more about the characters' personal growth and dropped it when it became more focused on the gang wars. Action comics just aren't forme I guess.

i don't know if this webtoon will make the most entertaining content, but i want to recommend it because it's my favorite comic and it's actually a good story
it's actually 4 stories that intertwine at the end (hence "seasons"), and it starts off a bit dumb with a fake relationship plot, but the message is about bullying and suicide prevention, so i still think it's worth reading. it becomes less about romance by the end so hopefully you can enjoy that, and the artwork is nice. it's also the only comic that made me cry lol.
also the first story is literally the "me and the bad bitch i pulled by being autistic" meme, so hopefully that makes it more enjoyable :)
EDIT: mentioning this comic after your comment about bullying - this comic does a really good job portraying how bullying affects people. also, i like that the characters in Seasons of Blossom actually feel like normal teenagers.

at first i continued reading because bomi and jinyoung reminded me of my high school relationship and it made me happy, but as the story progressed it kept getting better. i love how the artists handle sensitive topics with grace and complexity, it genuinely has me sobbing unlike any other webtoon.
i don't know if chalupa could make a good video out of this story because it's so wholesome, and he might not like it because it's romance, but i would still recommend anyone on webtoon to check this story out :)
*SPOILER* Hamin's Flower at the least should be read, i think it's touching how hamin seems to bring everyone together at the end, even if he felt lonely.. it's so sad even thinking about it ^^'
@@neliabedelia yes. Hanmin one is so good. I seriously didn't expect this webtoon would go so deep abt depression, parenting prblm, bullies, etc. Honestly bomi's flower is also good. It's a sweet story. Hanmin one damn i cried so much. Gaeul one its so bitter sweet. And lastly dongchae is a very good way to end the story. Every character got a good closure. It's a very realistic story.
I highly recommend it .

I'm reading this now, am about half way through. I love how much the characters change, some for the better, some for the worse. People you hated become people you love, people you love (or atleast liked) become people you hate. And we always love Jay.

I've been victim of bullying at school my whole childhood and I tell from self experience why victims bullying do no tell parents or teachers they are getting bullied in case someone is wondering.
I can't tell for everyone, so most of it is based on self experience, also, there are lot of reasonst that a could mention and the reasons may also vary depending the coutry, so I'll focus on how it is in my country and the main reasons for it.
As for the teacher, one reason is because it mostly don't work or can even get things worse for you. There are several reasons for that, but mostly is because the teacher can not do much about it, because they have not the power need for or just because they simply don't wanna get involved in that. It may sound irresponsible, but if we look at the point of view of a teacher, getting involved in it will just bring more problems in their lives that they rather avoid and also, how can teacher take care and control 1500,2000,3000 students that most of the time don't even have a basic education or discipline at home. Also, even if they do something, the max punishiment would a suspension (which is pretty much like a holiday for bullies), or in the worst case scenario, both the bully and the victim get punished , or just the victim get punished( it happened to me), which as I said before, will only get things worse.
Now as for not telling the parents, it has nothing to do with being embarrasing, actually most kids want to tell their parents, but the results are usually pretty bad, unless the parents have the resources to move out with the kid to another place, which is not the case for most families. The reason can be because the kid don't want to trouble their parents with that and also cause telling your parents will just make the bullying a whole lot worse ( I did the mistake to tell my mom) This happens because , it will trigger the rage of the bully, and who do you think will take all this rage upon? yes, the poor kid which WILL NOT have their parents around to hold their hands. The parent will not be at the school, but the bully will, and the bullying will be 10X worse then it was before. and everytime your parent try to do something, the bullying will get worse. So the way to "solve this" is not telling your parents.
These are basically the two main reasons of why victims of bullying might not tell to teachers or parents they are being victims of bullying, again, I am telling for everyone, your case might be different, also, if your family is poor or not , it also can differ the reasons, but generally that's what happen around here.

I have been reading webtoon for years and all webtoons by Park Taejun are my absolute favorites. I love the vibe and characters, and it makes me happy to see so many people are discovering them. But its truly sad seeing so many female fans simp over and making it cringe, being a girl myself I was hurt seeing fans ignore the plot and do these like💀

Who says they aren’t paying attention to the plot? When PTJ illustrates characters(both men and women) he tries to make them look attractive for fan service(sort of crazy when you consider what this webtoon is called but whatever). You think a lot of the guys aren’t talking about the female characters like that? Come on. Most of the people who are doing deep dive analysis of the plot and characters are women. Thirsting, especially on this webtoon isn’t gendered, don’t make it so.

LOOKISM was indeed better than true beauty as the character writing, stroylines and most importantly societal norms depictions , IT doesn't only revolves around the discription of daniel being fat and being bullied but a lot as story goes on CHARACTER ARC of each character is so BETTER
From what I understand, the teachers disappearing every time someone's getting bullied is pretty accurate in South Korea.
Another thing I love about this webtoon is how it’s the progenitor of the PTJ verse. Another comic I love from this verse is questism. I’ll keep this as vague as possible but questism starts because someone gives up their gang in a certain area. This makes the area go into chaos and in this chaos is how questism starts.
Not only is it questism but so many comic are in the ptj verse, like: manager Kim, how to fight, my life as a loser, Baekxx, juvenile offender and others I haven’t read.
Chalupa if you like you this one, I’d recommend ORV or Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. Idk if you’d like it or not but give it a try.
