Yeah i think you have to live in Australia for a while to understand the different regional australian accents. It was very easy for me too to understand him, i am assuming cause i have been with people with different accents here in Australia.

I remember when I first arrived in Australia I got a job in a pharmacy in regional Queensland, I felt like crying because I cannot understand most customers and their accents are close to this bloke and the old people cannot understand my accent too. Then after few months I found a strategy to just relax when listening then I can understand them better. I do not have trouble now understanding him because this is pretty normal accent in regional Queensland :)
New here in Perth and will also start working as a receptionist. I'll bare that in mind when things get super Oz
Me too. Two weeks ago, I arrived from Gold Coast/Queensland and my difficult was understand native people and old people, the accent is very hard and strong.

@@bingbong-yr6qe You know, English seems to be the ONLY language on this planet whose speakers expect all the rest of world to understand them wherever they are in the world. And, yeah, you are still taken to be inferior for failing to understand their Xyz-vale accent, even when you know it's only because you are accustomed to "the Queen's English" they taught you at school.
OK I don't have a problem with that, as long as it helps humanity build a better world, now that this situation is a consequence of recent history.
But mind you, someday, it might happen that the Xyz-vale guys will find themselves a linguistic minority, when all the rest of the world has adopted English --- in a "corrupted" form not approved by the government of any of the English-speaking countries --- as the lingua franca. Growing up reading Shakespeare, and Chaucer, I personally would find it terrifying to see the emergence of a "world English", whatever that may refer to .

I am British and yes ,of course we have zero problems understanding any Aussie accent no matter how strong. It wouldn’t matter how quickly this guy spoke I would understand him easily.

9 months ago I couldn’t understand anything he said when I watched for the first time. 8 months living in Australia and now I understand everything thank god.
As an American Southerner, i understood every word. Its different but, it falls in the same rhythm, twang, and break neck speed of some of the river rats i grew up with.
😂same. I don’t have a Southern accent myself despite being born and raised in South Texas and could understand both of them quite clearly. His accent is very similar to Alabama/Arkansas/Tennessee areas accent. The only difference is they say mate and some other idioms and terminology that may be culture specific.

Are Appalachian mainly descended from Scots-Irish, and Irish. Many Australians are, and I fully understand Appalachian speech and some of their old sayings. Appalachian people look like us too

I love Australians and their accents. I am English and feel we have a lot in common because we are inextricably linked by history of course. This fella speaks very quickly so any non native speaker that understands him is doing VERY well indeed .

I was in Australia, especially in Darwin city, 2 years ago. Honestly, I was really shocked when communicating with native speakers, they might think I have some communication issues. As time went by, it took me a few months to get familiar with this accent and to understand what they say. Now, I confidently say that I can understand word by word what they say but some misunderstanding might happen cuz i'm not a native speaker :) . Thanks so much super friendly Darwin people and there would be my great time in there.

I was working as an Accounting specialist for more than 2 years supporting small businesses in Australia. Aussie people are amazing! I miss speaking with Aussies though sometimes it's a struggle understanding them and sometimes I just close my eyes for me to understand what they're saying over the phone! 😂

I'm glad you dealt with nice people lol. Try those individual contractors and tradies and you'd probably change your opinion. Some of them are dodgy as.
I've been working here in the Philippines as a call center agent for nearly 3 months handling Aussie account , a newby in this industry. I was able to adjust to the accent. But sometimes not, especially when they speak that fast. I will ask them to please speak slowly so that I could understand. You made my experience in the BPO industry not that traumatic because Australians are very nice . This videos are very helpful .

Ohh I dunno, You're actually pretty good at finding interesting people. I probably would've enjoyed listening to speakers with interesting, unusual occupations, especially "endemic" to Australia. Also I really like the sound of broad Aussie English embellished with local slang expressions and rich vocabulary or whatever floats your boat mate)

"Wild man" has a very strong heavy accent I understand him but sometimes I need subtitles in order to understand him (he speaks very quickly) but I could manage with it in a week or so 😂

Living in regional Queensland my entire life, close to the outback, I never realised we even had a thicker accent until I talked to someone from the Gold Coast. I was weirded the hell out, and they were as well.
Best interview I have watched for long time. People say that there is no Aussie accents (within the country), but I can tell the difference between all of them except Vic and NSW (city).

Irish here and understand both accents without any problems. Remarkable how different the accents are though. We have the same in Ireland. You don't have to travel too far to have 2 entirely different accents. Compare County Antrim to Co Cork and you'll get what I mean. It's only about 280 miles between both locations which is nothing on the grand scheme of things. Antrim is right up the top of Ireland and Cork is right down the bottom off to the left.

As someone lived in Australia for 18 years, I can safely say that I understand this bloke 90%. It took me years to get that far. But hey, even now while I'm overseas I still miss listening to the Aussie accent like from this legend you interviewed. Many thanks for the video!

English is not my first language but working as a customer service agent for the UK and AU, trained my ear to understand every word he said.
When I was in Bangladesh that time I used to see that video that time couldn't understand well.But now after 7 months while I'm listening this video it seems I'm understanding most of the sentences!

The true broad accent is far far far more difficult to understand than that for people who are not used to it. I used to share a house with a girl in North Melbourne. I asked her why I could completely understand her when we were having a chat but couldn’t understand a single word when she was talking to someone else. She told me she changed the way she talked when talking to me! When I asked my work mate to teach me the Aussie accent, he said if so I had to go back to school. I think the guy was accommodating you during the interview. Suggest that you record people with truly broad accent talking among themselves.
Broad accent is not only interesting and funny but very useful. It would be helpful to have access to more materials like this.
I miss Australia so much! I used to grow up as a teenager in Moss Vale and Sydney CBD, so I understand him perfectly.

When I first arrived in Perth for a semester at 2am in the morning I got picked up at the airport by a bus driver organized by the college I was living in, but as I was the first student to arrive it was just me, so I sat in front of the bus with him. He was a rural bloke from the countryside and had such a heavy accent, I really struggled to understand him. Now I'm sitting here watching Aussie accent videos because I miss it so much
I had no problem understanding him. He had a great sense of humor & seemed down to earth. I lived in SoCal for many years & everyone speaks quickly as well as abbreviates words, so maybe that makes sense?

As a latino-australian who grew up in the mid-north coast of NSW, this is how most of me mates talk, although some of them talk more like the host of the show. Great channel brotha' !
I'm a Standard American English speaker. I'm not having any trouble keeping up with what he's saying. His speech is faster than my speed, but I can still understand him just fine. I do watch a few Aussie TH-camrs, and one of them has a similar accent.
I don't have the balls to swim with any fresh water crocs like him lol. Good on ya. Now I just learned there's a Noosa in Australia. I love the yogurt brand, but I didn't know it was also the name of a place. Also didn't know crocs are cannibals.
Maybe it's because I've watched enough Bondi Rescue because I actually heard him clearly!! 😭 Australian accents are my favorite accents!

I am struggling in having casual talks with my workmates, this guys Australian English I get him 90%, but the problem is whenever more than 3 or 4 oz mates casually chatting I lost all the time, can only get 10%. Wish you can make some videos with more casual talks explanation especially more than 3 people talking.

He sounds normal to me and I’m American. But I do watch a lot of Aussie youtubers, tv shows, and listen to podcasts constantly to where I’m hearing aussie accents more than American accents at times. It sounds so normal.

Mate, this interview was an excellent idea because that's the fair dinkum OZ accent, and you are taking down the argument of those who are reluctant to acknowledge this as the most genuine taste of Australian culture because it is thought to be spoken for people really far away in the countryside. Anyone willing to learn this accent will enjoy the real humor sense of the idiosyncrasy and will blend easily into any group because people can be themselves in social contexts. I'm just beginning my learning process.
I'm an engineer and I'm from Colombia. More than an interest I found that mastering the local accent (doesn't imply to use it) is a genuine need. I've been living in Australia for roughly 2 years and now I'm looking forward to getting my skilled PR.
The two more complicated stuffs to master in another language are humour and poetry -it's so bloody frustrating when people are cracking themselves up and you have no clue what was funny-, to do so, it is required to understand all the little nuances and connotations while learning in the process about the reasons why it's considered funny. (that's a real grasp of the culture).
Enrique Daza This guy is from Sydney areas, though you won't find this strong accent in Sydney city, it is very much like this just out west of the city. This is what my family sounds like and we are out west in Sydney. 😊
Forgot, it was an English lesson on accent difference. Immersed on the depth of talk so much that I actually understood everything which otherwise would have been hard to understand, especially the guy with strong accent;Interesting things always helps you be attentive and learn quicker.
After spending about eight years in Australia, working in factories, then spending four years in a university, studying law, practising as a lawyer, running street campaigns, I am still finding it challenging to understand this guest bloke. I am now kinda convinced that English and 'Australian' are two quite distinct languages. But it is always fun to watch people speaking with such a melodious flow (but painful to find yourself unable to follow every word they utter). :)

I like how Damien uses the word “loose” on a few occasions. When he says “I’m a bit of a loose unit,” does he mean that he’s not very organised?
Mansour Vahedi He means he’s very unpredictable and a care free attitude.
"Unit" usually means a strong man with a lot of muscle.
"Oi Dazza, look at that cunt, he's a fuckin unit! He's got chicken legs though."
"Loose" kinda changes it to mean unpredictable bloke.
At 2014, I've worked at Mildura, and the people there speak with a very strong accent, I take several week to understand properly what the people wanted to say, but over the accent is the slang that is rich and they have words that only aussies can understand.
I recommend, ate a vegemite-butter toast and think, "this is tasty, I'm Australian". If you resist you will be able to speak as a real aussie.
I'm from Maldives, been in AU for 4 years, I can understand him but occasionally it takes half a second for some words to register.

I’m American and I’d never heard of an Ocker accent. After a word or two I understood everything he said. Maybe it’s from watching many seasons of Below Deck and many series that take place in Australia

I have no problem understanding him as I spent a couple of years in Australia many years ago & have some friends and relies (relatives) there now. At first, it was difficult though.

Try whatching any australian tv show. I like Underbelly. Turn on subs if you can't catch what's being said but only after you've listened the passage several times. It helped me a lot. I'm russian and I understand 99% of what Wildman says . And give you ears 10-15 minutes to adjust to the accent
I'm working at Bigw, I have no problem in face to face conversation but during customer service for online orders on phone it's horribly hard to understand what thay say..I'm still learning I have been here from just last 5 months so hope I will learn to understand it.
