Warm thanks! You're a legend! Started hunting at 58 and now at 65 slowly seeing success coming much more regularly. Am still after sambar in NSW SForests. Love your vids!
Hey mate, great video! I'm self-taught in hunting going on two years and have taken a modest number of sambar, but I'm facing a dilemma. Do you think it's better to harvest everything you can to manage numbers in areas you hunt or should I focus on conservation, allowing the area to develop? Interested in your perspective.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, everyone has different ideas about managed Sambar harvesting. The deer need to be managed for their own benefit. l myself love to see juvenile stags reach their full potential in my hunting area. To harvest deer in my area wasn't logical or idealistic because of the ruggedness and so difficult to recover the venison. It's relentless for the deer because areas where you can legally hunt with the hounds seem to have no effect on the Sambar population unless it's over hunted.
G’day Reg, thanks for another great presentation.Your advice is very much appreciated.I’m noticing that some younger hunters are using their rifle scope to scan for deer.I think that this behavior is a very dangerous thing to do.Good binos are a hunters best tool.Ta,Rob.

Definitely a no-no! Never a safe practice using your rifle scope to scan for animals that you are hunting. A potential for the worst-case scenario.
