I know from my own experience, that working for a sponsor is just as hard, or harder, than working for somebody in a 9-5 job, or running a business. THEN you have to train and do your sport. You need to be ON, ALL the time. I was relieved when I took my own company logos off my race car. Then I could stop working, and just enjoy myself fixing the car, and racing.

inclined to respectfully push back on the "cyclocross not good value for sponsors" theory. at least for europe. laurens sweeck, eli iserbyt, michael vanthourenhout, thibau nys on the mens side, and Ceylin Carmen del Alvarado, Fem Van Empel, Annemarie Wurst, Anniek Van Alphen, Sanne Cant, for the women are all primarily cyclocrossers. or if they do race other specialities, are primarily known as cyclocrossers. And (at least for a few more weeks, RIP GCN+) I can actually watch cyclocross. Are any of the lifetime gravel events broadcast? and if they are, are they watchable? either from a racing perspective (i.e., stuff is happenning) or a logistics standpoint (i.e., how many cameras can one have in the middle of kansas and is there any wifi).

I am familiar with Pat as I follow triathlon (and am in Boulder). I am someone who is already 3 years+ in on the bike based TH-cam aspect, but not a competitive athlete. Is there even a consideration for someone like me to pursue sponsorships in the bike industry?

What I gathered from this presentation is that you have to bring something other of value than race results. That something else usually being social media presence adding value to the brand.
