    Why am I not surprised? Companies in every sector that once had exceptional warranties - resulting in dedicated lifetime customers - are cutting costs, quality, decreasing service, etc. I spent almost 3 decades on Navy ships at sea and in the air, with a follow on career in wildlife law enforcement on beaches, inshore and off shore. I’ve always worn quality glasses: Vuarnets, Raybans, Oakleys. I’ve had incredibly good luck with all those brands, which were the smaller ‘wrap type’ lenses . But recently purchased a pair of Costas, as I’m going to be off the coast of Maine on the water for a week or so and my dermatologist wanted me to wear glasses with larger lenses for greater eye / upper cheek coverage. (I’ve had a number of pre cancerous spots removed). I opted for glass….so I guess we will see. Regarding skin protection from the son? Bravo-Zulu, sir….well done on you watching out for your skin. Like a dentist visit, I see a dermatologist twice a year. Skin cancer is insidious….and all of us that love the outdoors, should be preemptive in protecting our skin. BTW…..nice kayak fishing rig!

      Thx so much for watching! Yeah, I think the days of unconditional replacement and stellar customer service is pretty much disappearing. Too bad I never had money when back when companies gave a damn about that type of stuff 😂.
      Couldn't agree more about skin care and keeping yourself protected. I know I look like a goober, but I'm married and I was never cool, so nothing lost there.
      Tight lines man!

      They're truly great glasses! Just be careful with them and you'll be really, really happy. I just hadn't heard much about their warranty changes and it's a shame if the old tales are true.
      Let me know what you think of them!

      I didn't realize how much I had been squinting and the amount of tension it was causing. Def a big upgrade from my polarized Wayfarers.

    You’ve got a great little channel here.
    Good gear is always nicer than cheap gear; that’s goes without saying, but there’s always trade offs. If I were to break a pair of glasses that I spent more than $40 on I’d never forgive myself. I literally would go to my grave still being bitter about it. I know I sacrifice clarity with my cheap gas station Pugz brand, but I’ve seen too many of my glasses go overboard due to my own clumsiness…and I get sick to my stomach losing a $20 pair. If I lost a pair of Costas, I’d never recover.

      Thx so much man!
      I've only bought two pairs of expensive sunglasses in my life (these being the 2nd), so I hear ya. I wouldn't say I regret the purchase at this point, but I've got mixed feelings to say the least.

    Costa warranties the FRAMES, no expensive sunglass company warranties the lenses against any kind of NEGLECT or ABUSE. If those same lenses of yours were faulty in any way you would have gotten a New pair for NOTHING. I have about 15 pairs of Costas and have had numerous replacements 100% free of charge for stupid things like C logo falling off or even discoloring, rubber separating from frames etc. If I break the lense from any kind of neglect in my part I know I am on my own. When your lenses broke I watched you hit them with your rod, THAT WAS A SUBSTANTIAL HIT. Plastic lenses would have survived that with no problem, but you can’t expect glass to take a blow like that. Costas are worth every penny and are very durable and I ONLY WEAR the glass lenses, I’ve broken them by my neglect and I don’t expect Costa to replace them, nor should anyone else.

    • @kayplainsdrifter136
      @kayplainsdrifter136  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fair and the clarity of the glass makes it worth it too. But the impression given by some reviews and internet comments I've seen make it seem like a slam dunk you'll get replacement glasses regardless of the circumstances.
      Any prospective buyers should be aware of the potential costs. Crazy thing is that my rod butt barely made contact with them and my pfd has padded pockets. The clarity of those lenses comes at a cost of some durability. The Costa lenses are like slivers compared to my glass Ray Ban Wayferers.

    What is the shoe you wear? I hate my mesh water shoes...they always fill with sand. Those shoes you wear might be perfect for wading in creeks and lakes.

      So I actually wear a combination of one the newer "hiking" style Crocs and beach socks. Great for keeping debris from being so annoying.

    You know, I would think a guy that wears leggings would be a natural at the model glamour walk. Sucks about the warranty. Shady Rays, which are like $40 they will replace them no questions ask. I use them just for driving. For fishing I have Wiley X, which are amazing in clarity and seem very durable.

      😂 I'll take that as a compliment...I guess? Yeah, I'm bought in now and just am hoping I've learned my lesson to treat them with kid gloves. Hopefully many years down the line there are more choices on the market too.

    You break a sunglasses lens is not the problem with the sunglasses. It's the problem with you being careless and run in your mouth.😊

    • @kayplainsdrifter136
      @kayplainsdrifter136  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe I ever said it was a problem with the sunglasses. My point was how the warranty covers these types of losses so that buyers are aware when they're making a purchase.

      @@kayplainsdrifter136 I think it’s because it was the lenses on yours that broke like you said if it were the frames it could have been different breaking expensive sunglasses sucks regardless though lol
