    $30 million annually from gill-netting with a population of 487(2021 census) and a cut to that will cripple the town? Just saying..

      I know you thought you were making a great point but that equals 62 k a year per person, not exactly a windfall.

    80% of seafood caught in Australia is exported, keeping the price of fish way too high. They should start by buying back any licence to operators exporting fish and see where the dust settles. How can fish cost more than land animals to buy when there is no cost in growing the animals. The system is broken

      The fishermen get paid very low prices it’s the middle men who make the money by jacking up the proces

    It’s probably possible for fishermen to use better methods to keep the industry alive, the same could be said for lots of fisheries in the west, crayfishers are doing a cracking job, rec fishers are seeing better stock and overall the bycatch is negligible, it takes a lot of work to find the right balance but it must be possible.

    I’m a seventh generation fisherman none of you have any clue what gillnetting is about you hate it because that’s what’s your told to do there’s are reason why I still catch fish because the methods are sustainable it’s about taking our right to feed ourselves away and selling the fishing rights to the highest overseas bidder unless you come from a long line of fishing you have no idea the government don’t even know when they sell our fishing rights they won’t fish it sustainably like us they’ll fish it out

      Nothing to do with that and everything to do with the fact it destroys everything in its path there was gillneters pumping in the logan river and ever since they have stopped has been 100 times more sea life in the river

    We need to stop netting in Australia. As an Australian we are sick of it destroying the waterways overfishing and selling most fish overseas.

    • @nigelmorgan3449
      @nigelmorgan3449 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pros catch wild fish for export but also to feed people that are unable to fish but still enjoy our wild fish.
      Why should they be forced to eat that pond shit that is imported from Asia.
      Everybody has a right to earn a living some people are on the dole some people wash cars and there’s people that fish for a living

      Did you not watch the program. The river fishers tend their nets till they pull them in, The ocean fishers only target fish in the first few metres of water. They do not trawl the bottom.

    If we go back to fishing by line let us also go back to farming all our vegetables with horse drawn ploughs. Are the people who are suggesting this ban prepared to pay the same increased price for vegetables as the vast majority (sorry vegans) of fish eaters will have to pay for their food. This hasn't been thought out rationally by the do gooders. The local community also needs the fishing industry and all the other associated jobs.
