  • Some flying footage I shot at the 2016 Northern California Legal Eagle Gathering. The whitish colored Legal Eagle is the original ultralight version, the yellow and red ones are the ultralight XL versions. The UL is flown by Burt and the XL's are flown by Les. You can see more of Les flying on his TH-cam channel at the link below.

    Sorry for the shaky camera, sometimes blurry picture, and wind noise, I just shot this with my hand held camera with the internal mic. In this case it would have been inconvenient to carry around a bunch more equipment to get slightly better quality footage.

    Hi all, Very Awesome video. I bought plans number 39 from Lenard way back in the early 2000s , I built the ribs and a bunch of fittings for the fuselage. I also collected half VW heads and an old VW engine. Sadly I got sidetracked and never continued with the build. This video shows me what could have been. I flew in to Oshkosh in 1995. Drove in 1998 and 1999. Went to Sun and Fun in 2000. What memories. I met Lenard Milholand at Oshkosh. Such terrific memories. Thanks😂😅😊❤❤

    Excellent video, thanks for sharing with us. I've known about ultra lights, seen a few from years ago, and always thought I'd like to fly too. But thought it was out of my reach. What I see in the numerous Legal Eagle videos, they appear to me to be very simple, safe and easy to build. However I'd need to learn much more about that half VW engine. That said, I'll be patient and learn more in general about that bird, in hopes of having one myself. be well

    Looks like a great bunch of guys. Always admired the little Legal Eagle. I fly a Rans S-4 my self, but don`t hold that against me.

    About that VW half engine, could someone direct me to a machine shop, who's proprietor knows what they're doing, that could help build an engine?

    Awesome video! I'm going to be living in the Bay Area for 8 months and I'm thinking of building an eagle with my friend. I did my skydiving training at Lodi and saw a few ultralights there. What airport is this at?

    WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ORIGINAL ULTRALITE AND THE XL?

    • @wfrandy
      @wfrandy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The XL is actually a total redesign of the original Leagle Eagle, so their are numerous differences. The main difference is that the allowable gross weight was increased to 575 pounds allowing the maximum pilot weight to be increased from 225 lbs. for the LE, to 275 lbs. for the LEXL. Because of that I cannot think of a good reason why anyone would currently build an original Leagle Eagle instead of the XL. In this video the white one is an original LE and the red and yellow ones are LEXL's.

      i think the XL is better for tall people too yes?

    • @wfrandy
      @wfrandy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either one could be built to accommodate tall people, but like I said before, the Legal Eagle XL has some definite advantages over the original Legal Eagle, so that is the one that is currently recommended.
