They said it in the trailer…”third term president…”. I’m guessing the president in the movie is a dictator

The Cali Texas alliance seems non sensical at first but if both states seceded for different reasons, and were both attacked by Washington as a result, they would likely put their differences aside; at least for a time.
Between Texas and California they represent a huge portion of the US GDP. If Washington goes into a sovereign debt crisis they might not be able to afford to fund all the federal military.
Moreover, Cali being blue and Texas being red might prompt many other states to join them; the film suggests 17 other states that secede as well. Rather than geographical, or even left versus right, the nation might divide between loyalist and separatist factions.

This is the crux of the alliance. Looking at history, most military alliances were for convenience, not because they were ideologically in sync. Germany, Italy, and Japan didn't care about the goals of the others, only that sliding on the opposition at the same time increased their power. Some Native American tribes fought with the British in support of their own goals, not the Crown's interests.

Damn right and I cannot stand these idi0t$ that keep saying it is unrealistic. Think of how much USA and Russia hated each other for several decades of "cold war" but BOTH of us were opposed to the N@zis in World War 2. 2 enemies of course will join forces against much bigger threat like the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT in this story. Not unrealistic AT ALL.

I had the same thought. The Federal Government had to do something beyond the pale that Texas and California would put aside their differences and form an alliance. Completely agree with your thoughts on the GDP of the states. Also Long Beach is one of the biggest international trade ports. Being in an ally of California would give Texas access to international goods. Texas has it's own oil reserves. The real wild card in this game is what foreign nations are going to support what side of the war. If I was China, I'd support all sides of the war. Keep us busy while they do their own thing.

It’s a movie dude. I’m just like them excited to see a good studio’s take on a very controversial topic at a time where politics are extremely divisive. And it’s an election year. A24 let their big dick hang on this one and I think it’ll be a pretty good movie. It will also show the horrors of a modern conflict inside the US something most people can’t even fathom. It would be absolute hell and this film will probably do its best to deter that kind of rhetoric because of how devastating it wound be for all of us

Texas ,California, and Florida are the three biggest and richest states in the union makes sense they would have the power to challenge the federal government. They are probably the main opponents along with smaller states who want to latch on and secede. Would be a very interestinf and complicated situation. Federal government ofc is pretty powerful but the seceesniost states would have much capital(money/resources) to draw on and also major military bases located in those states with a lot of equipment and weapons. Sounds like the feds overstepped and became dictatorship and states didn’t like it and seceded. Also some people think it will be racial, that’s impossible USA is too racially mixed and diverse. It will be along political/societal lines

It would not be intelligent to stay hidden and alone if a conflict were to occur on our land. We have to protect our loved ones. We have an obligation to. And im not sure about you, but me and any decent man I know would throw down anything to ensure his family and country was in stability. Even if it means the sacrifice of my own blood sweat and tears. I mean, how the hell do you plan to just stay out of something like this? That is so ignorant. Where would you get your food? How about water? Because all of your plants are controlled by the state which in turn is controlled by the gvt. Furthermore, they need WORKERS. If something were to happen, people wouldn't just go to work like in the show. or god forbid at least because rioting and looting would be at an all time high.
You cannot just hide or rely on conventional protection in times like this like law enforcement or the military. You need to protect yourself and your family. ARM yourself and your family. And know how to properly use and store these arms. As we have the RIGHT to bare arms, everyone should. There are TOO many possibilities. Call me woke or whatever, but I just see things how they are. I truly don't think there is anything "smart" about hiding when your fellow man, let alone, YOUR COUNTRY, is in shambles, and burning. ANY American should feel the need to stand up and make a stand in that time of need, for their family, and their fellow mans. As well as the future of this country.

Fellow Team Florida member here. Hollywood's track record for civil war movies isn't good since all have had a strong pro-left bias, but I'm willing to give this movie the benefit of the doubt since I haven't seen it yet and don't know much about it. TX and CA joining forces is improbable, but definitely possible given the right circumstances. The trailer does mention a three-term president and the fact he uses airstrikes on civilians, so perhaps that combined with other dictatorial policies could be enough to turn both states against him. As the old saying goes: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".

Sorry, but "NO" The Republicans are not just "White working class." Republicans are conservative, no matter color or ethnic makeup. I'm tribal enrolled Native American and had served in the military for 33 years. I live in Texas, which has taken on the brunt of the violation of National Security that has allowed the Cartels to control our Southern Border. Another problem is the botched Afghanistan withdrawal in witch. Service members were killed and left behind. This is much more than being angry this is beyond anger.

Very true. Knowing a24 I could see them using the plot as a way to bring people together rather than stoke the fire and further divide. The Cali-Texas team up just shows that. I think like you said it will be a come together against evil rather than a conservative v liberal show down haha
