Could you please do a tutorial on how to calibrate with Dirac from start to finish? I would like to know how to manipulate the curves after the measurements are done

    Great video!
Regarding 10:00: As far as I got it, this actually isn't a bug, but a feature. It allows Dirac to have different volume calibration depending of the measurement position. It is for the case, if you have to (because of reasons) place your measurement microphone for a single position really close to a speaker (e.g. one of the surround speakers), which could cause the measurement signal to clip.
With going back to the volume calibration screen you will then be able to adjust for that.

Dirac support told me that the volume will always reset to the default volume level (every time you go back to that screen) as a safety precaution to not hurt ears or blow out speakers. I try to remember the volume level I used and if I get the noise level error, I know I have to go higher than that when I go back to the volume screen and then 8 redo all my measurements as I think all measurements should be done at the same volume.

Calibration is not just a job, it's an adventure!

Hi, great video! Do you know if there is a workaround to adjust the speaker distance? I noticed it's locked. Even if I turn dirac off, I still can't adjust it on my Onkyo rz50. You could do it before running Dirac, but once I run it, it changes everything and lockes it.

Not that I know of. I will be doing some more Dirac tweaking. If I find a solution I will let you know.

Did Dirac ever set your front speaker delays off, in 2channel the center focus is off to one side?
It’s no until I match the delays for the fronts that the center focus comes back

Im planning to do some verification on the delays to make sure they are set correctly

It was really drastic. When I turned Dirac off, the sound stage and imaging came back into focus.

I have the Onkyo RZ70 and I bought the UMIK-2 to see if it would perform better than the puck mic provided by Onkyo. Unfortunately, I could not get the UMIK-2 to work. I either got a low signal to noise ratio error or other error messages saying it would not be as accurate because of the errors during the measurements. I battled with it for several days and pretty much gave up. Then recently Onkyo came out with a firmware upgrade for the RZ70, which stated it made improvements related to the Dirac Live error issues. I did the firmware update and that solved all of my issues when using the UMIK-2. It’s been working great since.

Didn't you have to set the avr to a movie watching volume before you start this? My noise floor level is 50-60 at best. With ac off, even the wall clock is taken off and placed inside another room. It is super quiet in the room and still won't go anywhere near -70db. Also, when I start pulling up the master output, I don't have to pull it too high to easily reach -13db on each speaker. I also have an umik1 mic and using the correct calibration file.

Ho far you kept the measurement Points away from each othe?
And how high and low you got from Height of MLP??

I believe that you want each point at least 2 feet from each other. No need to go crazy with the height variations - I would probably not go more than a foot from ear height (either up or down) and you may not want to go so low that now the mic is blocked by your seating (unless you can't help it like the high backed seats in this video).

Really like this as a more attainable setup for the average joe and it can be tweaked as needed to fit a wide variety of budgets

Just turning up the mic gain all the way up along with a little main volume adjust took care of all my problems with the UMIK 1. It always works without having to turn it up so loud. Now it goes through without issues. Never have to individually touch the individual speaker volume.

That noise floor of -70db is super impressive. I can't get mine that low even with everything turned off, middle of the night, and holding my breath 😂

on your levels you got +12 to -12db I have only -12 db!? and i have the same version as you!
