Just bear in mind that the same sorts of people who found the jokes in that advert funny, are the very people being advertised to. That doesn't include you, if you're reading this. The sorts of people who find those jokes funny, are the same people that believe the Metaverse is a good thing; they're the same people who work in psychic-vampire termite-mounds called office space. They actually think that strapping screens onto people's faces is the future we want, and they have TV shows like The Big Bang Theory and your boy Neil DeGrasse Tyson to back them up. It's a Gadarene rush into the abyss.
But the system allows these types to exist because consumption is all people know and consumption of various products only forces those to accept their world even more. The issue is capitalism and the slop it offers, the fact that I can buy whatever I want whenever I want without thinking about how I acquired the product, what exploitation was behind the making of said product, from the cheap plastic headset to the software development of the game, all of it wouldn’t be possible without the worker themselves. But capitalism excludes the worker, it’s a self sufficient model where “you’re only as good as the effort you put in!!!!” Which is complete bullshit because we aren’t born equal, the majority are at a major disadvantage, it goes back to peoples perception of what work and labor is and capitalism ignoring that labor only forces those to abandon hope and never feeling satisfied because your frustrations aren’t heard, you blame yourself because “I didn’t go to school” or “I didn’t work hard enough this is all on me” as you break your back slaving away to make some rich pricks happy.

The metaverse only feeds into the coping mechanisms we use to make life bearable, you want to say this product “isn’t for you” but it is, the metaverse and any alternative to it is trying to get us to accept more and more of this reality and pushes us deeper into a state where we never will accomplish anything and we won’t ever fight back or regain control of our very lives. We are already in the metaverse this whole system is the metaverse it’s just people are too ignorant to grasp the idea that being able to consume on a dime living in a bubble is the highest form of removing your humanity. So long as I have my slop, my games, my tv, my foods, my music, I will be fine.
It’s not that people don’t care it’s that people have never been taught to care and the idea of a functioning society have been removed thanks to Reagan and thatcher’s neoliberal model
@@cmragg7649 not only just the factor of needing to consume in order to pass ourselves off as happy to mask or cover up deep issues that we have, the reason the meta verse is even more dangerous is because it has that social media aspect to it where you NEED it in order to follow trends or fit in, especially with younger people in schools etc. Everyone will have it, all the cool kids will, and if you don’t you’ll be looked at as lesser. That’s the part that worries me. It’s like one big huge episode of black mirror.

It's already gotten to that point as evident by the global success of social media platforms, twitch and youtube included. The capitalists know they have made life hell for us so the alternative to living in hell is to cope with living in hell and that is when commodities become our very livelihood. I can't live without all these things because without them I am nothing, and the same rules apply to social media presence and like you said you NEED to have these things because of the social elements involved and how much society builds itself around these structures which only serve to keep us ignorant, lowering attention span, using propaganda tools to alter your opinion on certain matters.
