বয়া কি?

সাগর বা নদীতে নির্দিষ্ট চ্যানেলে জাহাজ বা জলযান চলাচলের জন্য যে ভাসমান সিগন্যাল পয়েন্ট দেখা যায় সেগুলোকে বয়া বলা হয়। সাগর বা বিভিন্ন নদীতে ভাটার সময় বয়া দেখে নাবিকরা জাহাজ চলাচল করান।, যাতে জাহাজ চলাচল করতে অসুবিধা না হয়। বয়ার মাধ্যমে নৌ-পথের চ্যানেল নির্ধারণ করে দেয়া হয়। এগুলোকে বলা হয় মরিং বয়া (mooring buoy)। মুরিং বয়া এমনভাবে ডিজাইন করা যাতে নদী বা সমুদ্রের তলদেশে একটি ভারী ওজন থাকে। মুরিং বয়ার উপরে সংযুক্ত লুপ বা চেইন রয়েছে যা পানিতে ভাসে।
আবার জাহাজের ভিতরে জীবন রক্ষাকারী এক ধরনের বস্তুকে ও লাইফ জ্যাকেট বা বয়া বলা হয়ে থাকে।
