    I loved Happy Place. I think Emily Henry really writes for the millennial, especially older millennial, demographic tbh. AND I don't think I'd actually label her books romance but rather contemporary fiction with a romance plot 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @Louisa536
      @Louisa536 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Loved it too. I think Emily Henry is just really good at writing romance novels that have a proper plot and are not as surface level as many of the other books that are usually popular. It's cute and romancy but also well written and relatable.

    • @dancersmind
      @dancersmind ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree I think her books our contemporary with a romance plot

    I think older people will appreciate Happy Place more. Happy Place reminded me of my oldest friendship, the girls I met at college, how we keep our friendship during the years, and I like Emily Henry's books because it's more than the romance. Harry discovered herself during the trip because she wasn't happy with other aspects in her life and not only the relationship. I think it's misleading classifying Happy Place a romance, if you remove the romantic plot, there's still a story about a woman that is facing burnout from her job, has a bad relationship with her parents, and is meeting her friends to a vacation.

    • @joylynn0620
      @joylynn0620 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. I completely agree although I feel that Happy Place had the romance in the forefront more than Book Lovers. Which really felt like a contemporary literature (chick lit if you will). I think it's doing her books a disservice to call them romance and in most cases, that's the criticism: that the non-romantic sub-plot took up to much of the story.

    I read Happy Place and gave it 4.5 stars. I really liked it. I truly enjoy Emily Henry's writing (specifically the banter). In order of enjoyment is Beach Read, Happy Place, People We Meet on Vacation and Book Lovers. All of them are over 4 star reads for me. I can't wait to ready Truly Yours. I'm waiting on my BotM copy. As soon as it arrives, I'm picking it up. Any author who quotes The Princess Bride (one of my favorite movies) is more than alright with me.

    I did read and enjoy Happy Place this month but I’ll put a snippet from my review below because on some level it seems like we had similar thoughts and feelings overall:
    “I think I'II always be in the minority with her books in that I think they're good but rarely astounding. I don't like to pit authors against each other, but there are other romance authors I read where each individual book is the same in the sense of writing but vastly different when it comes to the characters and I don't know if I really get that from Emily Henry. So this was enjoyable but also forgettable.”

    Completely agree. I feel like Happy Place is way overhyped and the romance was terrible, I enjoyed the friends and their subplots, but Harriet and Wyn did nothing for me.
    Yours Truly was impeccable. I was also a little frustrated with Bri at the end... but the way Jacob's mom explains her past trauma and her hesitation explained it really well and felt real. I can't stop thinking about Yours Truly. So so good. ❤

    I loved Yours Truly so much! I’ll be honest, the miscommunication was a bit much and I got annoyed by the behavior of one of the two mains in the end. But. I feel like the first three quarters were so good that it made up for it and was still a five star for me. Such an intense connection between the characters (that we got to see build realistically) and I could feel them fall for each other. A pure delight.

    happy place should have worked, the themes were so good, the issues universal and important, but the execution fell flat, we spend most of the book running away from everyone and everything... the mc's felt quite empty until the last 100 pages, the idea was lovely, the actual result was not worth it for me, like yeah you made me cry and go through an exist. crisis but not because i care about these people on the page but beause these issues are present in everyone's lives... eh pass
