Gene Kelly talked about how much Judy helped him in this particular movie, his first. So, later in movies like “Pirate” and “Summer Sock”, when she was struggling to make movies with all of the personal problems and illnesses, he fought for her, and helped her. Think a part of him really loved her. Show people were special people.

I get mixed feelings. I wished they existed nowadays because we would have tons of more material filmed, rehearsals, videos, outtakes etc because we always want to see more and more. But at the same time they were at their right era, doing the right art and poetry that pleases us all and that would not exist today for they to perform

I've read in several bios that Judy was in the grip of a massive crush on Gene when they filmed this movie, it really shows. Her eyes shine every time she looks at him.

Such a huge talent . And such a sad life. They don’t make films like this anymore. She said she wasn’t a dancer, but if you can keep up with Gene Kelly then you have to be pretty good. They look great together and I believe he was a bit of a hard taskmaster.
That was hardly a challenging dance number, especially compared to other Gene Kelly movies.
I think the camera angle and her skirt are also very forgiving.

Acting. Singing. Dancing. What they did back then. And they did it so wonderfully.
There's a "giggle" in Judy's eyes, several times, but notably when she gets up from her piano.
This always makes me cry because of the purity and innocence it shows, which are both lost forever in this current world we live in..

Omg my mother taught me this song when I was little, we would sing it together! I’m 60 next year! She used to do the church steeple thing with her hands and taught me but I never knew from this!! When she was ill and passing away in2002 I sang this song to her❤️

This was fantastic! Those harmonies and the way their voices worked beautifully and perfectly together was magical and angelical. I will never forget the moment I heard it from the first time, which is today(3:18am 21 May 2022 18ñ) truly magnificent.

I agree 100% This was a time of magic in the movies, a far cry from the toilet humor, constant f words, and everything having to be about sex in most movies today. Even uncensored pre-code Hollywood was far less vulgar and single minded than today's movies. And, half the population of the 1930s found pre-code films too vulgar and outrageous, so you could only imagine their reaction to today's crap.

In this movie owing to co-starring with the already huge star Judy Garland (aged 20)... Kelly (aged 30) became a dance legend in Hollywood. Afterwards they both established a wonderful companionship and friendship till Judy's untimely death in 1969.
What great chemistry between these two!

I think it is interesting when referencing the old MGM musicals to what extent WOMEN DOMINATED the scenes. this has only just hit me as prior I think I took it for granted. A friend of mine, Lillian Burns Sidney, was MGM`s talent scout and drama coach for over several decades. I did the only interview she gave and it appeared in the `Calendar` magazine Los Angeles Times c1970s. It perhaps was Lillian who promoted this feminist ethos advising actresses never to give way in a scene, to hold their own with the men. MGM has a great deal to be proud of, and much of this is on account of Lillian.
