- First semi-final match from the 1992 U.S. Open 9 Ball Championships in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Jose Parica Vs. Buddy Hall. This match is not in its entirety - my ex-wife recorded over most of it (you'll see that - what can I say... life happens - lol) - but we still have 30 minutes of great pool by two great players - a cool trick shot by Mike Massey - commentary by Barry Tompkins and Mike Sigel - plus an interview with Jose Parica at the end of the video.
I do have the complete match from the loser bracket final between Parica and Johnny Archer.

Buddy Hall was hanging in Tampa at Baker's and we could see him regularly. A great player to watch and learn from, his cue speed was phenomenal. Then Efron Reyes came on the scene and it was pandemonium!

The thing about Buddy's stroke is...he can hit the object ball with less speed and yet get more action on the cue ball. He is a very large man with a lot of power and with incredible touch. Even giants gets beat once in a while. Great match. Parica is excellent, but Buddy Hall is a better player with superior control.

I forgot how badly ESPN covered pool. The camera always seemed to be on a ball going in a pocket and never show how the cue ball moved.

@@BlackjackDSapolis Hello David. Here is why I stated that date. During one of the score updates at the bottom of the screen, an Eagles-Giants game was listed with the Eagles up 17-0 at halftime. I looked at the two games between the teams in 1992, and subsequently at their two games in 1994. The only such game in which the Eagles led at 17-0 at halftime was on December 27, 1992. @@DennisZehner , that's kind of weird. I was at both the 1992 and the 1994 US Opens - Buddy lost to Jose Parica in the semi-finals in 1992 - I have that match uploaded as well. I believe that this is the year that Efren actually won his only US Open (1994) ... so I am not sure why there are football scores from 1992 being scrolled on a match that was aired in late 1994, early 1995 - then again ... we live in a very very strange world. lol

OK, this guy Parica is a funny guy.. I remember him griping about being "slow played" by Jeremy Jones, in the 2003 US Open final, when he got beat 11-4!.. lol.. Which was funny, cause Jones ran out so much that week, 4 games is the best anyone did against him, all week.. In fact, if I remember correctly, Jones kicked in the one ball when the score was 3-2, and ran 7 racks behind it, finally allowing Parica back to the table when it was 10-2!..

It doesn't matter. I was very impressed with your uncle. Even started carrying around my own towel and baby powder for a while. But I can also empathize with Parica and understand his frustrations.

1992, Willards jamboree in Chicago.. Bustamante had just arrived in the states for the first time, and he gives CJ Wiley the 8 ball and beats him 2 sets.. Never missed a ball.. CJ’s stakehorse politely tells Bustamante’s stakehorse that he can play Buddy, and bet what he wants... The offer is politely declined..
Then, lol, they’re told Efren can play Buddy, and bet what he wants.. And that offer was politely declined.. lol..
I was there.. And I could see it in their eyes.. They knew they’d get shot full of holes..

The table was playing pretty slow, I think that was why Buddy hooked himself on that 7 ball.

@@bjarkenielsen8515 only difference I see between now and then is pool players today wear gloves. Maybe it is a style and helps them cue some balls. I dont see myself wearing one though as I like to feel the pool cue as I hit the balls going to the hole. Thats like wearing a condom…..hahaha

People don’t know how good parica played, unfortunately. It was a toss up between him and efren imo and parica had way more heart. Efren was a one barrel McGee. But everyone calls efren the goat so whatever… it’s just uninformed.
I apologize to all of the fans of Mike Sigel but I can't understand how he ever has fans the guy couldn't shoot for Jack sh*t, except his mouth.

Oh, that was Mike "The big mouth" Sigel as the commentator and he says Buddy Hall is 47 still there shooting. I'll have plenty of more years to go. That's true, getting your ass whipped by the unforeseen up and coming new players and especially foreigner players like Efren "The Magician" Reyes. Sigel, you should have retired while you were ahead of the game.
FWIW, Mike won 105+ pro tournaments during his career - and he is the player that all of the Filipinos watched and wanted to to be like (this includes Efren Reyes). According to Efren, when it came to 9 ball, Mike Sigel was the standard - and that is one hell of a compliment. Not sure why you have so much negative to say about Mike, he really is a super nice guy - a good friend of mine - and one of the best players in the history of the game.
