      You mentioned the USAF is limiting its f-35 purchases but I’ve found nothing capping its total purchases to around 1000.
      All articles say they will by less next year but still intend to reach 1,767 aircraft with 2458 across all branches

      Except we aren't fighting WWII. Enemy fighters land before the strike package comes through. The threat is cheap, numerous, highly advanced surface to air, and this lumbering beast will get your wife a visit by blue suiters. Its all about a stealthy air to ground workhouse, and the F-35 is not the solution because it can't carry anything internally. Might as well by 2 F-16s. At least the IADS won't read "Tilt" when you're 100 miles away, like this F-15 relic of the 1960s.

    • @phillm156
      @phillm156 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@FFE-js2zp check your facts, the F35 has 2 internal weapons bays. F22, F35 can be a forward observer/ weapons designator. An F15 can linger 30 plus miles behind and rapid fire air to air or air to ground missiles to the target designated. It’s called a strike package made up of multi generational tach. Would not be possible without a stealth capable plane.

    • @FFE-js2zp
      @FFE-js2zp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The F-35 has no precision weapon capability, internally. The stupid engineers have never flown in combat, so they didn't understand the impact of ROE on weapons employment. An LBG seeker and fin kit won't fit inside. Its a huge miss. These epic design misses are more common than not, like Boeing's colosal failure to track the first V-22 requirement to carry a simple HUMVEE..

      The plan is to use the F35 or F22, to fly in stealth, discover targets, then call on F15ex with 22 missiles to destroy enemy threats. The stealth planes can’t carry much ordinance, that would change with the F15Ex. Soviet doctrine has always been to launch many aircraft against our few, thus overloading our defense systems. With this platform, that would not be possible.

Having a mix of systems allows you more flexibility to deal with situations, and increases the difficulty for the opposing force as they have to deal with a myriad of systems, radars, jammers. etc. They might be able to defeat 1 or 2 types, but 3? Whatever. The point is battle damage survivability, which is a stupid metric. Something that's 2x as big has double the chance of physically being hit by anything, AAA, birds, other airplanes, small arms. And the radar cross section is even bigger. The F-15 was a great 1960s design and 1970s Fighter. Today the F-15EX (X for dead X-pilot) is a massive liability. If we paid Boeing a few billion to slit the throats of our pilots they'd be thrilled at the cost savings.
      And wing area is measured tip to tip, this airplane lost maybe a third. No big deal.

      AFAIK there is now only one version, the F-15EX (rebranded as the Eagle 2), but it's still intended primarily for A2A missions, as a replacement for the F-15C/D.
      Only 2 seater aircraft will be produced to keep the production line simpler and hence cheaper, but the back seat will be replaced with avionics and computers in the initial version, so the aircraft will actually be flown by a single pilot.

The Airforce was apparently having some difficulty explaining how of course in its current configuration it couldn't be done unless you're fine with them sticking out at like a 20º angle and if you did modify the wingtips to enable the option it would have adverse effects to the jet's overall handling. Kinda funny I thought.

    This is the fighter jet Canada really needs. Forget about the F-35 stealth crap as eventually radar technology will catch up to stealth detection. This has the legs, speed, and fuel capacity for the long arctic patrols / interception and will last 40 plus years as Canada takes FOREVER to procure new fighters. Sure it's an older plane design on the outside but the technology is new and modern. It's a testament to the product when the US that can have the new 5th generation stealths but still loves, purchases, and utilizes these F-15s.

    • @miketeeveedub5779
      @miketeeveedub5779 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm old enough to remember when Canada was still flying the F-101 POS as our premiere interceptor. They were so pathetic that when the TU-95 Bear bomber pilots were intercepted along the Arctic and west coasts they would purposely fly the plane below the stall speed of the F-101, which would force them to circle the Bears to stay with them, thus fatiguing the pilots and burning excessive fuel. We needed a replacement.
      The US at the time was trying to sell us their surplus and obsolete F-106 as a replacement instead. PM Pierre Trudeau rejected them as unsatisfactory, and the US offered us the F-18 as a compromise. I liked the F-18, but we absolutely should've had the F-15 instead. The F-15 was a bleeding-edge air supremacy fighter, much like the F-22 was. But the politics of the time denied us that aircraft, as the Trudeau government was not on best terms with the US at the time.
      The main problem I have now with the F-15 (and the F/A-18E) is they're built by Boeing (ugh), and the US is very protectionist. I wouldn't trust them to supply us the necessary replacement parts. This has already happened repeatedly with our F-18s and Hercules transports.
      The only viable and trustworthy replacement now is the Saab Griffin. It's not the great plane the F-15 is, but Sweden has offered to build them in Canada, along with the means to produce our own infrastructure for parts. That could help to revitalize our aerospace industry, instead of being a money pit like the F-35. I'd sooner we invest in Canada's future then continue feeding the US war machine.

    Stealth has been oversold. Stealth aircraft with an incredible cost in terms of maintenance and in a much larger cost per hour than all other airplanes is of limited utilities. Stealth merely means that an adversary near peer only has to put in more wider band radars to defeat stealth. This purchase of this aircraft shows common sense and meaningful procurement on the part of the Air Force.

      Unless your RCS is that of a 737. Most BVR missiles are used for posturing in the opening salvo of a BVR fight, and you want to be the one who sees first. I suspect these will be used for replacements for the F-15E in a primary strike role working in conjunction with F-35As who kick down the door for them, jam threat radars cooperatively, and empty them as bomb trucks in the force mix if they forward-deploy. It’s a head-scratcher right now though since the USAF never asked for it.

    Amazing video like always! Been excited for it and loved it! Though I do have a question. Does the F-15EX incorporate thrust-vectoring? I remember reading somewhere that it does use it, but I can’t be sure of it. I mainly wondered so because on the EX’s first flight, it performed a surprisingly tight turn that didn’t look normal for an F-15 to perform. It looked like something straight from an F-22. But with TV or not, it’s still an amazing upgrade and an amazing fighter that will server phenomenally!

      I think that maneuver was possible because of the 'Eagle EX' using FBW FCS. Digital flight control allows greater maneuverability because it can push the jet into rigorous flight regimes requiring extreme AoA but without over G or going into departure.
      Additionally, if you have ever seen video of the incredibly fast response of the F-35's control surfaces, plus the extreme range of motion which is far greater than any previous jet, it's only logical to think that maybe Boeing made a few subtle changes to the EX, like control surfaces with the response like that of the F-35. Plus....hmmm....I wonder if maybe Boeing pulled a bit of prestidigitation & 'adjusted' the EX so that it's Center of Pressure is now slightly ahead of its Center of Gravity at airspeeds of 450 knots or less? Combined with the FBW FCS, this would produce a negative Stability F-15, which produces an aircraft that wants to turn rather than fly straight? I noticed that takeoff maneuver too; it was basically like the Raptor & F-35, take off, gear up, fly at 100 ft altitude to around 350 knots, then haul stick and immediately go straight up. I have never seen any F-15 (other than S/MTD) that could perform that maneuver. So yeah, they pulled some sorta sneaky tech move to get an Eagle to do that.

      Thrust vectoring has been studied on the F-15 and more and they have not put it on any other aircraft other than the F-22. I think they have determined it’s not needed it. The technology was developed and tested on the F-15 active. It was 365 degree thrust vectoring and they chose not to use it. With the Russian fighters that have it, when they thrust vector they loose airspeed and fall. When the Indians brought thrust vectoring su-30s to red flag and fought the old F-15c’s in 1 vs 1 the eagle drivers took advantage of this and got easy kills because they were predictable and slow. Watch any airshow performance of the Russian thrust vectoring jets and you’ll see the first thing they have to do after a thrust vectoring maneuver is nose down to pick up air speed again, but if you watch any of the American planes do their maneuvers, usually they can flatten out and fly level or even climb. The US aircraft can do many of the same things as the Russian planes without thrust vectoring. Thrust vectoring looks cool in an air show and on video games, but has little use is a real life situation.

    • @appa609

      it's not that simple. The important measure in bvr is relative detection range. Absolute range goes something like (Power* RCS)^(1/4) so to see an F-22 with 1000 times less rcs than your F-15 at equal range you also need 1000 times more power density. That's impossible.

      Modern SAM system radar will see even stealth aircraft at a decent enough range that they'd be shot down if they try to attack the site. To be honest the stealth was never really impervious to radar in this sense. But the less powerful radars on fighters definitely won't spot a stealth plane until it's too late.

    • @S300V

      @@appa609 Power is not everything. Radar detection doesnt just depend on that! Sales men of stealth wanted everyone to belevie that. It also depends on antenna gain, processing of signals and wavelenght (very important). Altough power of radars increased it was the revolution of high gain, alternate wavelenght radars that made the change and that was made possible with ever increasing processing capacity. This eroded stealth advantage.

    I mean the F-15 is an extremely capable and combat proven platform(not to mention, sexy as hell).
    But it's really never been tried against an even halfway decent opponent with decent kit and training(emphasis on the word decent, not even good), so we can't really say one way or another if it's a better platform than say, the Flanker series, the Typhoon, or the Rafale, there's simply no data aside from extremely controlled and artificial military exercises.
    Leaving out the other variables like logistics, pilot training/hours, and the availability of spares and munitions; it's very difficult to tease apart which platform is better than the other.
    A profoundly useless and unrealistic comment, but I stand by it.

    Love it. The F-15 has the best service record of all fighter aircraft. Its original version set several world records at the time too. Makes perfect sense to update avionics and improve efficiency, and capacity of weapons and fuel. Much like the Super Hornet improved a great design, this will probably be the best non-stealth multirole aircraft in the USAF arsenal. Hell, if they scaled the Eagle down a bit and put folding wings on it, it would probably be the best in the USN arsenal too. I can’t see them being able to fit many of these in a carrier as it is.
