I guess I am one of those INFPs that think they are INFJ but this video definitely describes me as being full on strong as an Ne user I love this series. Thank you!
I don't even want to look at the crowded metaphor image of Ne possibilities for too long. On the other hand, the Ni vision with the castle and the winding waterway looks so peaceful, deep, and meaningful. - Intj
I love fleshing out ideas and at the same time intimated about receiving new inputs that can disrupt my vision. But the thing about Ni is that it never reject new inputs that are of value, it just puts it off for later.
hearing you talk about “possibilites” itself scares me off. apart from that too, it became very clear to me that i’m an Ni. maybe it’s the fact that i grew up a perfectionist and non-risk taker too. however, i’m also interested in learning about the world and exploring all the knowledge that i can, but at the same, i don’t initiate that desire much and have a clear vision of what i wanna be and where i wanna be. (a neuropsychiatrist in a countryside, living an hour or so away from the city and commute to work while blasting music in my car- pretty visionary, no?) but now i’m slightly confused, as i also happen to feel the desire to wanna get up and leave (for the same visionary desire) and wanna always be “starting over”. delete my socials often, wanna change my perceivable personality traits more often, but at the core i’m still the same. (it’s just somedays i wanna be more confident, communicative, joyful etc) looowwwwkey confused now. but cool video overall. still very helpful :)) edit: 16:01 guess that last point kind of helps, as the reason i feel the need to discover so many different intellect related topics is due to the desire to understand life and the way the world works and enrich my lifestyle. it’s still much internally focused than externally. so i might still be an Ni and the last few minutes’ differences again make me feel Ni like the beginning of the video did. (this is much more a self-draft than an actual comment lol)
As an NI-dom I think there is more flexibility to NI than the video describes. I'm an INFJ. I definetely have a preference for choosing a singular path and I will always try to find one. But I feel like other paths are always visible and available to me should I choose to change course. It is uncomfortable to change course, I admit, and it kind of hurts a bit to let go of or adjust the 'old' vision. But I can utilize other ideas relatively easy and then adjust my path when it is necessary (which it regularly is).
you're right. The goal is singular, but we can take different paths to reach that goal. That goal is heavily tied to our identity altogether, and we can be flexible with what to do, but we still look for that singular goal.
I am typed INFP (or IFS-N) and to me my intuition never have felt like a direct line to future, but a lense trough which I observe a current event which then spreads to multiple future posibilities. I have always had an ability to take a subject and rotate it in my mind to observe it from all the angles without subjecting it to any kind of judgement. This has helped me understand other people and their opinions with accuracy, and predict many practical problems from happening simple by intuiting them beforehand. I do also get intuitive insights which happen who know why, usually when I observe people or when I have accumulated suitable amount of knowledge about a subject. These visions are like a flash of understanding and require no activity from my part. Hopefully this and all the other NI answers you got from this video help you refine the comparison. I admit I am sensitive to these matters and while I usually do not write on TH-cam, I felt compelled to open up for this. Cheers!
Socionics shows Ni is intuition of time. + Ni is future oriented. - Ni is past oriented. The following 8 personalities have + Ni: INTP (LII) ENTJ (LIE) INFJ (IEI) ENFP (IEE) ESTP (SLE) ISTP (SLI) ESFJ (ESE) ISFJ (ESI) The other 8 personalities are more anchored in the past with -Ni.
My demeanor makes ppl assume I’m an INFP, but I can relate to the INFJ functions more because it has a desire for more structure.Even tho I do admire freedom too much of that makes me scared lol.
Socionics calls Ni intuition of time. It refers both to visions of the future and memories of the past. Mbti incorrectly calls Si memory. But Soconics shows Si is about intaking present sensation.
(Spoiler+random rambles): Loki season 2 ending. When u look on it, Ne might be the ones enjoying each character plot and posibilities while Ni would start to enjoy it on it clicks into singiular line of what happens. Once the "castle/the goal/ the plot" is revealed only after that it gets interested about the tools - other posible characters necesery for the plot (while still not seeing them as a plot but as a tool). So one might say Ni would look at the same thing as Ne but backtracked. Or looked at the same thing from 1 char perspective.
As an intj Ne types aren't all happy go lucky. In my experience, it's often connected to "day late dollar short" in practice. That is to say, a goal has be set and is being worked towards. The Ne wants to stay in the brainstorming mode. Such an example is in a nonprofit I help run. We have an ENFP that gets along great with people (as expected). However, actual activities have the brakes put on until the 11th hour because of not wanting to dedicate down a path. Working with an Ne is like having a navigator in the passenger seat and they just keep telling you, "Oh ya take that left you just passed 10 miles ago." 😅
😮 its like in Disney's Pocahontas how her friend was more traditional and reserved and wasn't as spontaneous or seeking wild thrill as much(NI) in contrast to Pocahontas who could see 👁️ the colors of the wind and spirit in everything and didnt want to take the "steady path" but instead the path with more possibilities and more novelty. (NE)
INTJ, dunno how Te is ameliorating it, but my Ni vision has an attached confidence level. It doesn't feel like a dark tunnel - but maybe more apt to describe it as an underground river that has forks and has occasional glimpses of sister rivers. It's nowhere near the Ne 'all possibilities, all at once', but I do get to utilize the Te to validate/choose which vision path I need to take. Is this just an NiTe thing, or is the description of Ni itself a bit too harsh?
Yeah, Te is gonna be the one that offers Ni these options, since Te is an extraverted function that seeks out opportunities to be efficient. Sometimes, one singular path an Ni may ideate may not be as useful in the long run cause of natural changes to circumstances, and when Te is well-utilized it can provide these other better options for Ni to ruminate and restructure its original vision so Te can then work on it. Extraverted functions like Te (and also Se) actually helps INTJ to be less stubborn sometimes, and thus be open to make room for effective spontaneity in their lives.
I feel the same way, though I'm INFJ. I don't feel STRICTLY bound to one river, like the video describes it. As an NI-dom I think there is more flexibility to the function than the video describes. I definetely have a preference for choosing a singular path and I will always try to find one. But I feel like other paths (or forks or sister rivers) are always visible and available to me, should I choose to change my course. But it is uncomfortable to change course, I admit, and it kind of hurts a bit to let go of the 'old' vision 🙂
Ni wants that one destination, but Te says that there can be multiple paths to reach it. So not really a dark tunnel. INTJs do everything for a purpose.
idk if i’m an infj or infp. i’ve been learning about these functions and i genuinely believe i use both a lot. Ne is the ideation phase Ni is the planning. Ni is the figuring out of why and how by considering all internal senses, it’s definitely accurate in its current context and circumstance. definitely better paired with Ti. Ne is figuring out how it can be applied broadly and be synergised with all current systems, considering external senses and possible physical outcomes. definitely better paired with Te. so like Ni seeks to understand being, and Ne seeks to understand movement.
The Ni explanation makes it seem a little less open-ended than it is but other than that great explanation. i personally like typing myself with 2 MBTI types (INTP and INFJ) especially as i still care about other people (especially friends and family) so if there is something i don't agree with or someone tells me something that makes me upset or i don't wanna hear i just supress it as i believe that's the best outcome but with other, random people in an argument (especially on the interner) i only care about logic and everything else doesn't really matter. just an example.
Socionics Model G shows the Beebe Model Critical Parent (6th function) is used more on the job. Whereas the Parent (2nd function) is more used off the job. Proof? INTP and INFP thrive in monotonous Ni routine jobs but their Ne interests are all over the place off the job. ENTJ and ENFJ love Ne business and teaching opportunities but their Ni is singular off the job.
Yeah after 5 years i see, i use ne. Its like i die if i have not options and possibilities my whole life. Different sport, friends, careers in mind is normal in imagination. The word "hope" is also ne, because to have it and to be optimistic or jolly, you need to see perspectives towards a problem. You only cant feel hope, when you see many ways to solve an issue. Changing living area, asthetics, friend circles..ne is like seeing potencial. Actually i thought i have ni and se, which only mimics ne ...but i look like i catch a cloud oftentimes
INTJ here. When you said Ni doesn't look at the past, I thought about how I often feel a sense of self-discontinuity and how prevalent that quaint emotion is. The past me is like rivers of memories that I cannot entirely rely upon to palpably affirm the concept of (my) "being", but rather, they shift and change depending on my framework of perception that is applied to them at certain moments in relation to the future. They are dependent on multitudes of mutable variables; I can no longer remember many of such variables. Even in the present, I feel like a zeitgeist. My world is essentially a series of connected visions that I think must paradoxically stem from somewhere before, yet in my mind is a theoretical fuzz of nebulous images of what could be that suffers to feel like a part of the moment when I was what I was, and when I was salient of "the present" in the past if I was even salient enough to feel like "I am" what I was in those given times. My Se is horrible and I struggle even more with Si related things. The way I view it, Se is being able to embody while experiencing the present and Si is being able to assess one's past well. They feel extremely foreign to me; to feel that the self exists somewhat as a constituent of time or a matter that takes place in space and time, to embody the simple fact of being by being able to "sense" and partake in it? It's actually quite profound (and bloody insane). I once sat in one place thinking of how every seconds are fleeting, feeling it, as if I hold water in my hand that's leaking through my fingers. my thoughts, the very thoughts I think (thought) are fleeting. How the sands of time slips through my being and that by how I am invariably consistently becoming I am invariably unbecoming. Despite this, I have a stronger sense of who I am and know what I want more than most people that I talked to. Am I sitting on top of an ivory tower that's falling? A crown of thorns of self-awareness that competes with the unconscious realm of Hades. Ni's relationship to the past is complex, almost as if it is situated in the realms of the impalpable subconscious. As I am older, I have learned to become a little more in touch. Nature helps a lot. The clouds, the grass, the animals.
Si is much more than just "assessing past". I think relating Si with past has just become an internet-MBTI trend to understand Si. As an Si-dom, I don't think of my past self like that at all too. The primary goal is to get a **detailed** analysis of things and people so i can assess the present or the future, thus the past is just a tool to be used that too only sometimes. This type of personal connection with certain objects, people or your past-self has more to do with Fi than Si
Here’s some good examples of NE and NI: Shawn from Psych is a ENTP and every time he is investigating he looks around and immediately notes what is missing and then as the case builds, he starts to make possibilities of the outcome (sometimes he is wrong as soon as he comes to a conclusion) and solves the case. He also has excellent memory (like most NI and NE users) and can recall things fast. Ayanokoji is a INTJ, he uses NI in a more passive way and can recall things when it’s needed and even reuse those recalls as well in other matters. He doesn’t see things as “possibilities” but more facts. His NI isnt screaming in his face of outcomes when issues arise. As an INFJ myself and therefore a Ni dom, I can say in my case that NE is more like a disposable k pod, it can only be used once in a specific situation where as NI is a reusable k pod meaning that we can reuse the information as much as we want while doing some modifications to it.
I have been stuck by the cognitive functions in MBTI, and the most confusing part for me was the difference between Ne and Ni. After two weeks of research, this is the most accurate and simplest conclusion to help newcomers avoid the path I went through LOL! --> Before understanding the difference, you need to understand what intuition is? It is the process of understanding and processing information based on ideas, a perspective, an object without having to follow the sensory perception. (For example, if you want to eat candy, a Sensing user will perceive the taste of the candy and know that it is sweet, but if you are an Intuitive user, before you eat the candy, you might think it is salty, bland, or tasteless before knowing that the candy is actually sweet). Now, let's go back to Ni and Ne with a real-life example, let's say you want to quit school. (Ni): This is the intuitive function that wants to go deep and have a profound understanding of information. When you decide to quit school, a Ni user will think about the entire scenario after making this decision and how it will unfold. For example, if you want to quit school to become rich, a Ni user will focus on understanding if this possibility is feasible or not. (For instance, if I quit school and choose the startup path to become rich and achieve what I want, will I truly succeed in this startup path? After quitting school, will I really have enough capital or the need to sustain my life and pursue my dream? Is my decision to quit school really the right one?) This is the thought process of Ni. (Ne): This is the intuitive function that wants to know the possibilities and potentials of how things might unfold. Regarding your decision to quit school, a Ne user might think... after quitting school, I will definitely become rich! That's all Ne cares about because it focuses on possibilities and potentials, so understanding exactly how things will unfold is Ne biggest weakness! Therefore, Ne users will focus on their strength by using breadth and exploring many options. (When I quit school, I will start a startup and become rich, but even if it fails, I can become a beggar, so I will explore where I can safely beg, or if it neither fails nor succeeds, maybe I will eat a hot dog to enjoy life.) This is the thought process of Ne. --> Ni focuses on black and white. (More rigorous) --> Ne focuses on the gray area. (More open-minded) Conclusion: You cannot force yourself into a mold. Each person uses all 8 cognitive functions, but you will filter them according to your personal preferences, your core personality, and whichever function makes you most comfortable!
