Don't rule out the press. It could definitely contribute to the shoddy quality of a pic disc. I have seen records where the press is handled by two different plants, and one of them is just total trash. I never made an album on a picture disc, but I'm gonna go ahead and speculate that there aren't many plants that "specialize" in that sort of thing. I've definitely seen these fucking things come apart at the seems in my days of buying and selling albums.

Picture discs, like that Final Fantasy soundtrack you have, have a less quality sound because of the screen printing on the vinyl. Same with colored vinyl though not as much. Black vinyl will be your best bet for quality sound.

'The Metabarons' is a very famous graphic novel in Europe. If you like fantasy comics, I recommend you 'The Quest for the time bird' and 'Thorgal'. From my point of view, the european comic is just the best in the world.

Data-discs take special care it seems in mastering the source for vinyl. A lot of the same problems exist for old albums from the 60's/70s when they press from digital sources without any consideration for mastering.

Picture disc records all seem to have the same issue, i have a David Bowie picture disc record and it has the same sound quality issues as my Final Fantasy records. Square Enix must value the asthetics over sound quality, there more collectors items i guess.
Another reason for the vinyl to not sound as wonderful is simply the fact that it's a "picture" disk. When they print those they're basically putting the grooves in, then sticking the picture and then another layer of sealant over the top... never a recipe for prefect sounding music. Another thing you can check however is your actual needle which may have some fuzz stuck to it (no big deal just pull it off or whatever).

Also, be sure to take those records out of those PVC covers as over time they basically melt and cloud the vinyl and mess up the sound. Put it in a poly-lined sleeve and then into the PVC sleeve. Also also(!), have you tried deep cleaning them with an isopropyl solution? Can do wonders. The first playing of a record always sounds off to me, but especially if the record hasn't first been cleaned. Hope you see these messages and this helps. Have a great holiday!

I understand how it feels losing your favourite video game store. My favourite game store back home, Re-Play Games, closed down during the summer of 2018. I was crushed and it was so last minute. My girlfriend and I would go there just to hang out because we loved everyone who worked there. I made sure to be there when they shut the lights off on the final night they were open. That was one of those store closues that still upsets me to think about to this day. That was where I would buy all my retro games, and what really kicked off my reteo gaming interest. The owner and his employees seem to be doing well, still. I would see them around, and talk to them every now and then. So glad things worked out with Willow in the end, and are staying open. I'lll have to check them out.
Just ordered my first special game vinyl from Limited Run Games: the Panzer Dragoon Soundtrack Vinyl signed by Saori Kobayashi. PD was a huge part of my childhood so I’m very pumped to have a signed copy of that on Vinyl.
Hey, just letting you know... I worked at a Pro Audio store for a handful of years (installing $30,000-$50,000 2 channel audio systems). Amongst vinyl listeners this is very common complaint. New records are considered some of the “dirtiest” records you can purchase. After a handful of plays or a couple cleanings, the noise should subside (just remember to clean your stylus after every play as it will accumulate junk). I find noise like this much more common for LPs with artwork printed directly on the vinyl (almost all of squares releases?)

DATA for example does not do picture discs because they firmly believe records are meant to be played and not just for decoration, which picture discs essentially are.
The process needed to make a picture disk like the one FF8 is with the picture on the disc, is known to produce lower quality and noisy record. They are nice to look at but avoid if you have the option.

might need to kill the static build up on the record. as far as i am aware the humming and hissing is static build up. the popping is usually dust in the grooves. might need to give them a good cleaning.

Congrats on the pick-ups, especially on Thimbleweed Park. Last year, Limited Run hosted a pop-up shop at Cary Town Center Mall and I had to check it out. The line was crazy long and I feared that there wouldn’t be much left. Luckily, they had a ton of items and even a damaged items section at a larger discount. I didn’t grab much but I did happen to come across a sealed copy of Thimbleweed Park CE for the Switch. I remember how cool it was and picked it up. While waiting in line, Doug from LRG talked with me (and all the customers) briefly and was surprised to see that I found the game. He thought they had sold out of all their copies prior to the sale.
Hey Johnny the reason why it sounds off on the final fantasy records is because they are picture discs with the art on the record it creates the hum because it’s different than standard vinyl on the artwork, I had similar issues with my Bowie picture discs in the past and your best bet is to just try and stay away from them if your looking to listen to records they are more display pieces

Yeah the weight of it makes the sound better too right? Normally my black vinyl weigh more and are thicker

I caught COVID too. The only thing it did to me was I lost my sense of smell for a week or so. Go figure.

I am still blown away that Vinyl made a comeback as a content format. It seems surreal to me that that happened.

Last year, Limited Run hosted a pop-up shop at Cary Town Center Mall and I had to check it out. The line was crazy long and I feared that there wouldn’t be much left. Luckily, they had a ton of items and even a damaged items section at a larger discount. I didn’t grab much but I did happen to come across a sealed copy of Thimbleweed Park CE for the Switch. I remember how cool it was and picked it up. While waiting in line, Doug from LRG talked with me (and all the customers) briefly and was surprised to see that I found the game. He thought they had sold out of all their copies prior to the sale.

Hey Johnny the reason why it sounds off on the final fantasy records is because they are picture discs with the art on the record it creates the hum because it’s different than standard vinyl on the artwork, I had similar issues with my Bowie picture discs in the past and your best bet is to just try and stay away from them if your looking to listen to records they are more display pieces
