      Recently found (and subsequently subscribed to) your channel--- I've been working on my own personal epic solo trip on a bike I brought back from the dead and learned to ride on, and as a frustrated filmmaker this video is, simply put, the most succinct description of the basics of MotoVlogging i've seen. I love your channel, the info you put out is really, really great and the words of wisdom at the end of this video really puts the whole thing into perspective---I just need to start shooting and put it out there. THANK YOU so very much, and I will very definitely be name-dropping you from the very beginning.

    Sub from Hawaii and love your videos. The fact that you're not another motovlogger endlessly rambling while riding down the road is refreshing. One question about your brand sponsors: Did you approach them or did they seek you out?

      I had the luck of being friends (West X 1000 -go check them out th-cam.com/channels/1_ZiKvi7fLpCjZYNDJ-tng.html )
      with people who were already sponsored by Wolfman and when they found out about my Pilgrimage, they were kind enough to reach out and tell Wolfman they should support this no-name girl. Wolfman is awesome and have been supporting my ridiculous adventures since 2016 and I love them and their products. They are some of the most incredible people I have had the pleasure to work with.
      Next Adventure and Scorpion I met when I was working at the motorcycle dealership. I signed a one year contract with Next Adventure last year as a result of being apart of Karl's Mystery Rides. I had no contract with Scorpion, but they did give me a discount on my gear as a result of working at a motorcycle dealership. I'm no longer sponsored by these companies.
      I have not reached out to any companies for sponsorship because I don't feel like I need it or am doing anything currently worth sponsoring lol maybe I will if I quit my jobs and decide to travel full time. :P

    Can I just say in the sea of channels that I am currently subscribed to I have been obsessing over your videos. The style in which you make these videos draws me in. I like your method of keeping it clear and concise and eliminating as much dead air as possible. It’s pushing me to change the way I think about my content to make it more interesting for the viewer because I too don’t really enjoy the generic MotoVlogger handlebar to helmet view and it’s something that I’ve wanted to change in my videos for a while. Love the string LED lighting idea it’s something that I think would pack really well for my camping trips and I’m definitely going to be looking for that at Walmart

    mmmmm I love soup. Thanks for another great narative and how to. I will use a lot of this advice when I start my Moto vlogging next year. This honestly is one of the most intimidating things I have to learn. My vlog will be about my journey and travels yes, however the focus of the vlog is supposed to show what is possible for someone like me ( mid ish 50's and disabled) to dream about and accomplish. Yeah lofty goals right. My fear is that I am going to make a series of "blah" that doesn't really make a good point. I am good with people in person due to my 30 year retail parts career but not very good while it is not in person. Goals right lol

    This is fantastic. It's cool to see the perspective of someone who doesn't just do the helmet mic/camera setup like everyone else (I'm guilty of it). When I try to up my production value, the added setup hassle ends up discouraging me from making anything at all. I'm so terribly lazy. If I can just turn my GoPro on and ride, that's ideal for me. Any tips for motivation?

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much!
      Motivation s a very personal battle lol but I will share with you my personal struggles.
      My first hurdle that I had to jump is realizing that I do SO much, like I have a day job I'm really invested in, and then I do Illustration commissions after I get home from my Day job, I maintain a Patreon account (which is like another job in itself), I also promote and organize Rocky MTN Roll (a motorcycle camp out that I host on my family's ranch in July every year. So I'm maintaining 2 Instagram accounts and 3 FB pages and THEN there's TH-cam XD
      All that to say that I just had to come to terms with the fact that my ideal upload schedule for TH-cam is not every week. It's more like every 2-3 weeks. So I have the opportunity to make videos when I'm inspired, which helps with the motivation to set up all my equipment. I think I'm also much more motivated when someone has asked specifically for that content, or if I made a public post that I was going to make a video and when it's going to be out. ( I only use that tactic every once in a while tho because I'm trying very hard to continue to enjoy making videos not feel guilty about it etc.)
      So in review: Recognize your ideal upload schedule that works best with your schedule and allows you enough time to create content you WANT to make, not that you HAVE to make to keep up with your upload schedule. So when you make videos it's like a reward and not a chore.
      I hope that makes sense. I do really enjoy making videos and editing and replying to comments, so for me it's a matter of remembering that I LIKE this stuff and that it shouldn't feel like a chore. Particularly since I don't make money off this stuff like Illustration.

    • @hamonthecob
      @hamonthecob 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AstheMagpieFlies Wow thanks for the insight! And wow you're busy! Another issue I have is that my motivation comes in spurts so I'll make 5 videos in a week and not make one for a month. But rather than scheduling them out a week between each one, I get impatient and release them all in a row, sometimes even two in one day. LoL I'm a trainwreck.

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hamonthecob I don't know if I know how to function if I didn't have a bazillion things to do XD
      I feel your pain I am also very impatient! My tactic is to only edit one at a time shortly before I post it. For example I have a bunch of footage I shot before I broke my wrist about how/what I pack for a trip that I haven't edited yet (partially because I need to record three more parts before I can edit it and post it. Those parts I had planned to record got disrupted by the whole broken wrist thing haha) but that way I can still get that immediate satisfaction of posting shortly after I've finished a video. :D

    Amanda, how do you store your raw video while on a trip? Are you brining along a laptop, just storing on the video device, or do you use some other type of video storage.
    I'm trying to decide whether to bring my laptop on my long ride. Cons; is it takes up a lot of space, worried about damage or loss. Pros; ability to edit video at camp. Wha't your thoughts?

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't edit while on the road, I feel like I sacrifice too much time trying to keep up with editing that I could be doing fun things. So I sacrifice real time updates in favor of experiencing as much as I can, documenting as much as possible and editing the footage when I get back. Which also helps my post trip depression, because I can relive a lot of it while editing. So on short trips I just store everything on lots and lots of SD cards, if I'm going to be gone more than 3 days, I take a Tablet (I have the Dell Venue 11 which functions essentially an itty bitty laptop, much easier to pack then a full-size laptop and less valuable as well in case it breaks ), and I take an external hard drive and I download all of my photos and videos to the hard drive every other day or so. I will leave a lot of the videos from my big camera on the SD cards as back ups, but I don't have as many mini SD cards as I do standard sd cards, so most of my helmet cam or drone stuff only lives on the hard drive to make room on the mini SDs.

It solves a lot of the mounting, audio etc problems and you don't have to have a big gopro hanging off your chin. LOL.....anyway I was just curious about that. Great job, and some really good tips. I mainly use my action cameras, but I also have a Sony HX400V bridge camera, mainly because it has a great zoom lens so I can share some of the things you can’t see from the action cams. At the moment all my audio comes via my Sony AS200V action camera, mainly because it has a mic input. I need to get a hotshoe adapter for my HX400 camera so I can plug my microphones in there or possibly a separate recorder.

    I'm very tired of looking at the road and handle bars on everyones videos. What I think would be very cool to have someone else filming you from another bike or car.

      That would be very cool! unfortunately for those of us who ride solo, that's not always an option lol

    Thank you so much for this video . Great job very informative . Are you self taught in film & sound editing or is this something you've been trained in ? i've notice how well your video's are done from the beginning but had no idea how much work goes into them .

      Thank you so much for watching it!
      I am self taught. I know composition and color theory because I do have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, but I majored in Illustration not Film. I've just always liked video, so I've been making little edits since I was in High School, so I had quite a bit of practice before I started this channel.

    Oh no, I just found out that you don't like the type of videos I make. No problem, I am also very picky about which videos I will watch on TH-cam. I haven't eaten soup in a very long time I think I will get some soon!

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol! I still watch your videos every once in a while! I like to support my fellow motovloggers! Most of the time when I watch other motovlogger videos I'll skim through, or watch it on 1.5x speed so I get the jist. I realize that sounds pretty harsh or rude, but it does help absorb a lot of content pretty quickly, and still be able to participate in the comments sections when I want to :)
      haha thanks for making it to the end! It was a pretty long one lol

    You convinced me to not try vlogging. I'm not a techie, whatsoever. I'll just do my riding and leave the videos to those of you can do it. Besides, there are enough vloggers already.

    Great video, well explained and some real good tips, thanx.
    Just started a little channel, wow the learning curve is steep, especially with the editing.
    Only have a Sena 10c Pro at the minute, but saving for more.
    Really enjoy making videos but not so much the editing.
    Hmmm Soup, if you made it to the end of my comment ;)

      Thanks so much! The learning curve is for real lol
      I find writing a script or even just key points, helps with filming but also when you go to edit so it's a little easier to keep the key points in mind. But everyone has a different style/journey when learning to edit! I wish you all the luck in your journey!
      Thanks for making it to the end!

    MMM Soup, You held my interest until the end. You are wiser than your years. You made me realize that this is to much work. I’ll stick to just shooting my rides and watching what Quick the Go pro app produces.
