I watched a biography on Mr Piper.He was a very sad man towards the end of his life.Many of his wrestling buddies died from overdoses on drugs or alcohol.There was even an X wrestling buddies Ghost that visited him shortly after he died.

I saw this movie many decades ago and I thought that it was a horror movie. Many decades later I believe the same thing. And I consider it as one of the worst movies ever till today. (Not the acting, the script)
The people who refused to put the glasses on remind me of my mother. If you tell her anything negative she says "I don't want to know", if you try to teach her anything it's "I can't learn this". Yet she seems depressed in her ignorance. I used to try and talk to her but it was useless, she really wants to ignore the world anď focus on herself.

When I saw this as a teen when it aired on amc, I was moved with the plot of how society was being controlled and manipulated by a species the human didn’t even know they were being govern by, also it’s sad that the two main characters didn’t live to see their victory by exposing all of the aliens.
Underrated Gem of cinema. The fight over wearing a pair of glasses is superb. I love this movie and never forgot it when i watched with my old man when i was 10. It took years for this movie to be distributed in Australia. The most bittersweet ending ever.
John Carpenter said he made this film as a wake up call. Even back then in the 80s, he was suspicious of then US President Ronald Reagan's so-called "Reaganomics." I'm so glad this film is now a major cult classic.

Plenty of old films have drones in them.. Remote controlled toy planes and stuff were a thing ages ago so not much of a creative leap. Hell, actual military use goes back to WW1 and even earlier if you count balloons.

John Carpenter is one of the greatest directors of all time. Yes some of his films are weaker than others but his “good” films are absolute masterpieces.
As good a movie as this was I kind of did not want it to have such a sad ending for the hero. I love the "heroes journey" and I wanted an ending where he survives, leads a successful rebellion against the aliens, and gets recognized as a hero by the entire world for his part in helping liberate them.

Making the villans aliens is genius. If they made it overtly political then they would have lost half the audience due to feeling attacked on their ideologies. But because it's aliens vs humans everyone is in the same boat. You could make it so the people who are in control just use people's ideologies to divide them but I don't think it would have the same effect. It's too on the nose and some people would feel uncomfortable and tune it out or turn it off.

Long before I studied the Bible, I could accurately read her body language down to her scientifically impossible interactivity with the public. I have since learned that her left side-forward pose is typically directed towards loved ones. People usually emphasize their right side when posing for authority figures or strangers they wish to impress. So her casual demeanor is precisely intended to communicate with family members and such, of which I am one. I had no idea. The year 1988 into 2023 now and the present is so revealing we are at the cross road of middle to lower class threshold of society. The movie decided to be made so into the future it's TRUE, there are aliens amongst us. Rowdy Piper, the former WWF, now WWE Wrestler, stars in the movie he is a very well thought actor. This is a learning experience with reality that everyone in this world are in danger if not divided into class , we need to struggle to survive and live another day just like the movie said.

The people who refused to put the glasses on remind me of my mother. If you tell her anything negative she says "I don't want to know", if you try to teach her anything it's "I can't learn this". As good a movie as this was I kind of did not want it to have such a sad ending for the hero. I love the "heroes journey" and I wanted an ending where he survives, leads a successful rebellion against the aliens, and gets recognized as a hero by the entire world for his part in helping liberate them.

Making the villans aliens is genius. If they made it overtly political then they would have lost half the audience due to feeling attacked on their ideologies. But because it's aliens vs humans everyone is in the same boat. You could make it so the people who are in control just use people's ideologies to divide them but I don't think it would have the same effect. It's too on the nose and some people would feel uncomfortable and tune it out or turn it off.
