    This is the last of four videos about Nigerian history leading to the Nigerian Civil war. In this video, we take a look at the Nigerian civil war, also known as the Biafran war. It is regarded as one of the toughest and bloodiest wars in Africa, leading to the deaths of more than two million people (mainly children).

    My dad tells me the Biafran story with so much pain written all over his face. He never fails to narrate in details to anyone who cares to listen, of how he wore his boot for almost a year without taking it off, and when one finally manages to take it off, some part of the flesh comes off with the boot, or how you will be walking with a fellow soldier, and within a split second he is gunned down right in front of you, amongst other heart wrenching events. He fought as a Biafran soldier at the age of 17. Still waxing strong till date . God bless all our fathers who fought for us to be here.

    My father was a biafran soldier, he tells us the story of how his mother would always manage to bring them food in the middle of the war .he was always surprised how his mum finds him in the bush where him and other soldiers were fighting. He'll ask her what are you doing here, mum. He would always take her halfway and then return to the fighting .. she's late now. This was the first time hearing my father crying like a baby . Thanks to everyone for your patience and kind words while I was away. Hope you all enjoyed the video.
    I know this one was a bit lengthy, but believe me when I say that this is nowhere near the actuality and intricacies of the Nigerian Civil War.
    That's why I left some recommended books and resources in the video's description.
    These videos take a lot of time and effort to produce. And with the unpredictability of the TH-cam algorithm, it might prove difficult to sustain and improve this quality and the frequency of uploads long-term.

    What I find shocking is how casually we all dismiss the casualty figures. Over 20,000 men of the 3rd infantry regiment died the battle of umuahia. When Maj. Utuk and Capt Buhari fought their way out of Owerri, they escaped with about 200 out of the 2000 they entered with. War is hell, a meat grinder.

    I was one of Biafra youngest boy age 11 years old who survived Birtish and Nigeria Genocide war. The first day I went to war front at Ngor okpala Biafra soldiers was very upset with me coming to war front. I was with SS Brigade one of the powerful and strongest flightier. Biafra soldiers came out from the trench and pleaded and asked me to go back home, I told them am sorry sir I am not going any where. Four of the Biafra soldiers started crying and said I will get killed. I was very happy with Biafra soldiers in the war front and in the trench. Every one of the Biafra soldiers was very happy. Every Biafra soldiers and none soldiers are my heroes. My prayer today and tomorrow what happened In 1967 to 1971 Nigeria and Biafra should not happen again in Jesus Name Amen. The massacre of women protesters in Aba in 1929 by the colonial masters caused massive outrage in the UK, and probably marked the beginning of the reconsideration of colonialism by the British. What other fight are you talking about? Before independence the North, the East and the West were administered separately……even independently of each other, so the question of fighting themselves didn’t arise at all. The only interaction was at the level of individuals who chose to live in regions other than their ancestral regions. With the British in control, the various tribes were kept away from the throats of one another.
      Truth be told, considering everything that’s happened in Nigeria, I fully expect Nigeria to splinter into several countries eventually. There’s been too much bloodshed, and the hatred is still visible and raw, as was clear for all to see during the 2023 elections. With this mutual hatred, transmitted through the generations to even our youth today, I see no hope of true national integration at all. They may have crashed the Biafran rebellion forever, but they will NEVER crash the spirit of the Biafran people and their desire to be an independent nation. As a South African with no connections with Biafra or Nigeria, I should perhaps not appear to be sympathetic with one side or the other. But African butchering African is something I cannot be silent about. Please people, let Biafra go.

      Deal with the xenophobia first before jumping into other matters. What is the reason behind xenophobic attacks in south Africa??

    • @thembadube9589
      @thembadube9589 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@drinkskhalifa7153 It is the same reason as what was referred to as "Ghana Go Home" in Nigeria when the working class Nigerians perceived Ghanaians to be competing unfairly for meagre resources in their country. The attacks in South Africa on foreign nationals are happening only among the underclass. It is not helping when some (and I want to emphasise SOME) foreign nationals commit heinous crimes such as selling drugs, raping women, forcing young girls into prostitution, etc. A recent announcement by Government shows that there are more Zimbabwean/Mozambican/Lesotho/Nigerian prisoners in SA than there are South African prisoners in any of those countries.

    • @drinkskhalifa7153
      @drinkskhalifa7153 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@thembadube9589 there is no comparison between Ghana go home and xenophobia in south Africa. Millions of ghanaians were migrated to Nigerian because of hardship later was fixed and ghanaians refused to return to their homes and nobody killed any ghanaians .
      I bet you all the Nigerian national selling drugs in south Africa are igbos! Go and check.
      Secondly, let clarify this to u , igbos were given chance to leave Nigeria with their five state, do u know what happened?? They refused to leave without south south the Oilers region. Now tell me how do u expect Nigeria to give up its sources of income to igbos called biafra?? That's why we always said igbos are not ready to go. Nobody depends on igbos region but igbos depend on others regions because they have nothing to offer that is the reason why igbos land is empty. You should try and understand things before jumping into conclusions. Ask yourself why the world ignored they cried? Because they were not in the right.

    I love the Igbo warrior's for their spirit of perseverance , they were all heroes , they did their best in ensuring a better country for the future generations.
    The word spoken by the newly appointed leader of Biafra , Lt col, effiong was under a serious pressure which he has no option than to surrender to Nigeria army 🪖 just to keep the innocent Igbo warrior's alive. The word Biafra ceases to exit was actually a strong word by effiong , I pray that the lost glory of the late heroes will be restored back IJMN

    For long i have searched online to watch about the NCW 1967-1970, i couldn't find something rich. Now my hunger has been satiated.
    By far, this video for me has surpassed every knowledge, documentary, or detail about the Nigerian Civil War that i know. You have done truly well. Thank you for this detailed and well researched masterpiece.
    THIS IS HOW OUR HISTORY SHOULD BE TOLD.
    I felt i was watching a movie.
    Ver note worthy is also the fact that i didn't sense or see any bias or ethnic sentiments in the video. i feel that when history is been told especially when it is a touchy matter, it should be told with the truest sense of patriotism and sincerity, not attempting to spark or stir controversies and place blames, but simply an attempt to proffer a detailed story and analysis of "where we are coming and what happened"..
    ONCE AGAIN, thank you for this video..
