Heres another sad thing though: Before Eliza set off to London with their children, one of their children got incredibly sick and were close to death but survived. So while Eliza was worried sick about their child, Hamilton was having his affair with Maria
“I know about whispers….I see how you look at my sister.” The first time I heard that line, I gasped. The only time the emotional cheating between him and Angelica is ever acknowledged.
More aggression does not equal strength. I like both versions, but to say First Burn Eliza is stronger is foolishness. If anything, it’s the other way around.
I think Burn is still extremely heartfelt, and somber and sad. Eliza's character didn't seem like one to burst into this upbeat, emotional, and aggressive scene. She's helpless and in Burn, it perfectly shows that. In First Burn, it makes Hamilton the helpless one. In both, you can clearly see she's hurt, but the true raw emotion comes out in First Burn, you don't see Eliza as this young woman who fell in love on sight, you see a wife, a mother and a sister all wounded. I adore both equally, Burn is a very emotional but much more somber and quiet. While First Burn is packed with anger and aggression and most likely a lot of pent up feelings Eliza has had. I could gush all day of how I love them. But both Elizas are amazing and both very strong.
Theres like two versions but Lin included Burn in the official soundtrack or whatever and First Burn wasn't. They're the same just- just not. IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN STUFF
@Hailey Lin from what i know (pls correct me if in wrong) , first burn is sort of like another draft of burn, hence the name. it's not part of the original musical but i think it was so good that lin wanted to make it its own song.
Phillip's anger near the end makes me sad because it shows that he's old enough to understand this isn't something to be sad about, it's something to be angry about
Mhm. But I loved the scene because of the fact he held his siblings closely and yelled because he was furious at the people taunting them. he is old enough to know he needs to step in and try his best to protect his family's name..... at least, I think so....
If he didn’t have the affair.. People wouldn’t have started hating him, He wouldn’t have broke Eliza’s heart, Angelica wouldn’t have roasted his soul, And Phillip wouldn’t have died.. *GOD DAMNIT ALEXANDER.*
The line I miss most from the original when I listen to this version is “You forfeit your place in my heart, you forfeit all rights to our bed, you can sleep in your office instead, with only the memories of when you were mine.”
Can you imagine how much pain Eliza must had gone threw in just a few years? Her husband cheats, her sister dies, her son dies, and when things start to get better with her and Alexander, Burr becomes "the damn fool that shot him"
The “sister” line was what hit me the hardest at first because I first watched a shorter animatic that didn’t include the whole song. But once I did hear the whole thing, “legacy” shot me between the ribs.
"Your enemy whispers, so you have to scream." Wish this line made it into the final play. It *perfectly* sums up the worst thing about Alexander in a single sentence.
I feel like first burn would fit Angelica better if she had been the one to marry Alexander. Burn fits Eliza better, because it’s more about her being so hurt and feeling betrayed by Alexander’s actions. Angelica would have been more angry and upset over his disloyalty, which is more what this version of the song is about.
Internet Kid exactly I can’t imagine her showing anger, just disappointment and hurt and first burn is pretty angry and savage while burn is just. It’s heartbreaking.
I honestly think that if Angelica were to be Alex's wife instead of Eliza, then Angelica would have killed him...Like literally killed him... like, Angelica: Oh, hey, Alex, so I read that you cheated on me. Hamilton: Angelica! It's not what it looks like- wait why are you getting a knife out? Angelica:... Hamilton:... Angelica: *Stabs*
A lot of people have already touched on this, but when Eliza says "and in clearing your name, you have ruined *our* lives." She didn't mean her and Alexander. She meant her and Maria. See, in the entire Reynolds Pamphlet (called "Observations on Certain Documents" then), Hamilton painted HIMSELF to look like the victim. He painted Maria to look like some seductive trickster who ruined his life. In reality, she was tricked by her abusive husband who told her that if she didn't help him extort Hamilton, he would take away her daughter. After Hamilton's pissiant of a Pamphlet was published, everyone besides Eliza HATED Maria and it got so bad that she literally had to flee to England with her daughter, Sarah, to escape the verbal abuse. Eliza also was attacked in the news. Some news mockingly asked her "art thou not a Roman wife?" It was honestly so disgusting and Eliza is literally the nicest human ever to forgive that asshole.
Fun fact: the lawyer who helped her successfully divorce her abusive husband was AARON GODDAMN BURR. Who _also_ got Maria's daughter admitted to a good boarding school in Boston by personally petitioning then-Congressman Eustis. I could write a whole essay about how much more progressive Burr was than Hamilton IRL, from feminism to abolitionism to immigrant rights. It's a genuine shame that the musical is so many peoples' main source of knowledge about him.
@@kittenpurrito3285 Really really! Burr was a proponent of immediate abolition of slavery in New York, and proposed a bill that would've given women the right to vote in the state. He was also a strong proponent of the middle class, and even started his own bank that would lend to them because Hamilton's WOULDN'T.
I absolutely LOVE how this animatic focuses on Eliza feeling like she was never good enough for Hamilton. The others tend to just show she is angry at him for cheating, but the implication Eliza has been upset for most of their marriage really hits hard.
Yeah. She thought she wasnt smart enough for him to be satisfied. She thought angelica and peggy were the smarter sisters(they actually were pretty damn intelligent for women of their time).so i very much agree with you.
Or that she doesnt want to throw everything away that she has worked so hard to achieve, if she never felt good enough for alexander this truly would break her as her concious sorta always knew that he would go with someone else
The cheating part just pushed her over the edge, it shows at the start of the marriage, they had worked out, trust was made, but then trust was broken. Shattered really, and she is just d o n e with ham ham over here's crap.
Phillip holding his siblings while they're clearly in pain from the scandal and then him being hit by a scrunched up Reynolds Pamphlet hurt me in a level I never knew existed. Poor Cinnamon Roll, he's the spitting image of his mother, sweet, smart and caring but also hella strong.
2:06 I like how the animation included Maria beaten up in the background. I am not evil. I just like how it shows how innocent Maria really was. Considering that James did *beat her, cheat her, and mistreat her* so when he threatened to harm their daughter she knew it was no joke. That's the only reason she did the thing to Alex.
FUN FACT: When the Reynolds Pamphlet was published, in 1797, Philip (Alexander oldest son) suffered from a deadly disease, from the point that he could no longer get out of bed. Doctors said he would only live for a few weeks, then he would die. One night his breathing and heart had stopped and he also had a lot of seizures during the time he was ill. He was 14-years old. It was said that he was only miraculously healed because although Alexander was not at home, he had paid the most capable, reliable and expensive doctors he could find. But he was cured only by medical doctor and botanist, David Hosack. Philip should have died in that year at the age of 14-years old. But he was saved by a "miracle".
Pretty sure the actress of Eliza said how it was hard to do burn because it's supposed to be sad and serious and in the background you just hear *HE AIN'T NEVER GONNA BE PRESIDENT NOW*
“I know about whispers...I see how you look at my sister.” Alexander: I’m so sorry Alexander’s inner thoughts: Oh thank god she didn’t mention Laurence-
I love this version of burn. Yes it focuses on Hamilton's infidelity, but also other aspects that Hamilton hoped Eliza was too naive to understand. The song also portrays Eliza in a better light. She knew about her husband charming other women and possibly loving her sister more than a friend. You see the pain, agony and self doubt she felt but pushed it away to support him and their family. It all came out when the affair happened, and let him hear everything. The best part was mentioning the children. Eliza wanted him to fully see the damage he caused by saying. " Did you not think how this would affect the kids?!" And we all know Philips death was because someone ridiculed his father. The kids reputation was the biggest factor and he overlooked how society would throw stones at his family because of his actions.
Yeah and it was already mentioned what type of a wonderful person Eliza is when Angelica said: “I know my sister like I know my own mind, you will never find anyone as trusting or as kind”.
Yeah.. it's awful of Hamilton for only thinking about himself and the constitution and didn't even thought how that would affect his family and Eliza...But he still went on, do everything his way, he even went on and charmed other women and his own sister-in law/Angelica. He actually thought Eliza would be naive to notice all those things, but she isn't, just like she said "I see how you look at my sister. Don't, I'm not naive, I have seen women around you. Don't, think I don't see how they fall for your charms, all your charms". Even Angelica repeated and told Alexander " I know my sister like I know my own mind. You will NEVER find anyone as trusting or as kind" and "So never lose sight of the fact that you have been blessed with the BEST wife" . But Alexander never even bothered to listen how his actions will affect everyone.
The part with the kids really makes you realize that she’s not the only one effected by his actions, the entire family was. With all the shadowy figures looking at them shamefully and even someone throwing a paper at Philip. I also find this whole song and the real version very powerful as Eliza goes through first, Alexander cheating, 2, Peggy dying, 3 Philip and 4 her daughter having a mental breakdown and still has the power to forgive. I heard someone once say “giving someone a second chance is like giving them an extra bullet when they miss.” You give them another chance to hurt you. This woman was so strong to go through all of this.
And then she went ahead and did all of the stuff she did after all of that. Built an entire orphanage, raised funds for the Washington Monument, and spoke out against slavery, and most importantly made Hamilton’s legacy known. This women went through the most and still contributed so much.
I agree. And Alexander also ruined Maria's life with the affair. Her child was taken away and she was ridiculed almost wherever she went- so the line "You have ruined our lives-" Makes me think of Eliza, Maria, and The kids. And it just gives off an entire perspective depending on the way you look at it.
Elizabetsey that’s marias fault as well tho. she chose to sleep with him. even when he tried to leave at first. that’s both their faults not only alexanders
fun fact: She indeed burned his letters, but only in a matter of privacy, sweeping the things he might have did under the rug, further protecting the Hamilton legacy
Also because I read (on AMINO) that after the Reynolds Pamphlet everyone treated Maria like a wh**e (don't know if it's a bad word so I'm gonna stay on the safe side)
Philip protecting his younger siblings while the second eldest, his sister, is clinging to him while crying is putting me in tears 😭 Philip was a great son 2:40
I wish First Burn actually made it into the musical because it shows how she isn't just upset about the affair, she's been upset in almost the entire relationship because she knows how she has been looked down upon and thought of as naive. Furthermore it shows how she actually knows what has been going on and because she's so trusting and kind she has allowed it to eat her up inside instead of letting Hamilton know what she knows. So he feels like he can do what he wants and get away with it and her kindhearted nature causes her to stand to the side and watch it happen. In addition to that, in First Burn she doesn't only talk about how she feels, she mentions the children saying that he should've thought of the rest of the family before he does anything big like this because they are his legacy which he cares so much about. First Burn has so much more layers than Burn and I really think it should've been used instead but, oh well.
When Eliza said:"When the time comes explain to the children the pain and embarrassment you put their mother through" I felt that this song should been in the musical
Well, Eliza was said to have always been a rather calm and collected person so it would make sense that the end product in the musical reflected that part of her personality And personally I love the lines "you forfeit the rights to my heart, you forfeit the place in our bed, you'll sleep in your office instead with only the memories". But that's really up to personal preference
i’m pretty lin didn’t want this song because that would mean he n a few others would have to be onstage n he only wanted eliza to be one people focused on
I love how in first burn, Eliza says that she will erase herself from the narrative, and in "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story" Eliza says "I put myself back in the narrative" AND I THINK THAT IS BEAUTIFUL
For all those who don’t know, a fun fact about Eliza is that she was actually extremely self conscious. This song both better portrays that and how her seeing droves of other women fawning over those eyes and words really cut deep despite her not saying much until now. Her learning he cheated on her probably shattered what little confidence she had left. This coupled with some people even saying Alex was a manipulative person(I personally doubt it) just leaves an Eliza with just nothing left.
No, she was self conscious about her education, Having never writing enough (With counteracts with the line "wrote him a letter nightly".) She was never as good as Angelica, or as confident as Peggy. Alexander pushed and pushed for letters, and she could never deliver.
Hey I’m back. Its been a few months and the comments make me see how stupid this was so i do apologize and will say i don’t agree with what i said in the past. I was ignoring it but here i am. Sorry
Can we all just appreciate that Eliza never once blames Maria in this song. In a lot of cheating stories, the mistress is sometimes blamed more than the cheater. But Eliza is different. She knows this is all his fault, even if she is annoyed at herself a bit. She even describes her as “this girl” not “sl@t” or anything. She realises that Maria was extremely vulnerable when they met, and she doesn’t target any anger at her Edit:OMG I left this comment for ages, and was so shocked, thanks for the likes xx
I thought it was a scheme Maria and James did together, cause there’s multiple recorded incidents of it happening to people with the same timeline of events pretty much.
Bolty Well, here is the story I’ve gathered. Maria was 14 when she married James. She was apart of a poor family and James promised her riches. (I think that was a lie. I’m not sure if he was actually wealthy) but she married him for her family. She was then abused emotionally, mentally, sexually, and physically. Fast forward and she is now 17. She has a daughter now, (Sarah I believe). Now let’s fast forward again to when she is 23. James up and left Mariah and their daughter. This was the 1700-1800’s, there is no way a woman will be able to survive on her own AND provide for her child. Especially since she wasn’t educated (I’ve read the letters, her spelling is atrocious). She didn’t know what to do so she went to Hamilton for help. As we all know, Hamilton did help her. He gave her loans and what-not. Mariah is very grateful and she wants to repay Hamilton. Remember y’all, she was abused by her husband since she was 14 years old. Years upon years of grooming and trauma. The only way she knew how to repay Hamilton back was by giving her body to him. That’s what she learned, unfortunately. Fast forward to about 2-3 months? James is back. And he found out about the affair. Well, Mariah told him. He thought he should exploit her, and blackmail Hamilton. James also threatened to kill their daughter if she didn’t comply. Well, Mariah fell in love with Hamilton at this point, and she sent him letters of warning. But it was too late. Hamilton agreed to pay James, and he continues to see Mariah. There are times when James would not allow her to see Hamilton. She would have to beg and beg. Eventually he would give in. Until one day he didn’t give in, and that was the last time she saw Hamilton. There are other cases like this. James pimped Mariah, basically. She was sucked into it. Mariah is not the bad guy here, we shouldn’t be mad. There are rumors that she wasn’t a pawn, but she was, in fact, the queen. But I’ve yet to see any solid evidence of that, I believe it’s speculation.
It was a theory that Hamilton was in on a plan of speculation. A short query from others dotting down the evaluation of Hamilton with Reynolds. This is probably what it means, but if it seems, the in-betweens of the lines of this musical would be discovered. my bad did not mean to rhyme lol
Also how it shows how Jefferson just wants to get Hamilton out of his way and wants him to ruin his own life and wants a reaction when he grabs his shirt thing
Has anybody else noticed when Eliza throws that thing at Maria it strikes him right between his ribs is that foreshadowing of when Hamilton will get shot between the ribs or is this a coincidence
He completly and absolutelt despises his idiocy for destroying the life and breaking the heart of one of the most loving, generous, selfless, kind, compassionate, magnanimous people in history.
I loved the “When will you learn that they are your legacy, WE ARE YOUR LEGACY”. If this was in the Broadway version it would be like full circle along with the legacy part in The World Was Wide Enough.
Hamilton: It's my wife's sister! Hamilton: The devoted sister of the woman whose heart I've shattered! Hamilton: She must be here to make *me* feel better
Eliza deserved so much more, her son died, her husband died, she was taunted by the public for what Hamilton did. No doubt Hamilton was a great man; I just wished he was a good one
Do you know what Angelica said when I told her what you’ve done? She said “ You’ve married an idiot, go run and get my gun. “ Edit: People usually get mad if I edit and be greatful for the likes. I don't care rn because HOLY FRIK THAT'S ALOT OF LIKES.
OK THE VISUAL EFFECTS? THE ON POINT FACIAL EXPRESSIONS? EVERY ANIMATIC HAS ELIZA EITHER MAD OR SOBBING THEATRICALLY BUT THE SHEER REALISM OF ELIZAS FACE IN THIS?? ALEXS FACE?? THE WAY THE FIRE CURLS AROUND ELIZA?? THE FLASHBACKS??? THE KIDS?? ALEX CRUMBLING TO THE FLOOR?? EVERYTHING IS PERFECT???
It hit hard how she says "your enemies whisper so you have to scream" To me it shows and describes Hamilton the best. He always saw everything as a threat. To a point where he got so paranoid. Also has such a deep meaning. Makes you think twice lmao
I'm pretty sure that instead of but its "so" but yeah I really like that lyric and I kinda picture his enemies as like shadow people, always inside his head, always whispering, tormenting him and making him paranoid so he has to scream to hear over their whispers and lies that they always tell him.
Lyrics: I saved every letter you wrote me From the moment I saw you I knew you were mine You said you were mine I thought you were mine Do you know what Angelica said When I told her what you'd done? She said "You have married an Icarus He has flown too close to the sun" Don't Take another step in my direction I can't be trusted around you Don't think you can talk your way Into my arms, into my arms I'm burning the letters you wrote me You can stand over there if you want I don't know who you are I have so much to learn I'm re-reading your letters And watching them burn (burn) I'm watching them burn (burn) You published the letters she wrote to you You told the whole world How you brought this girl into our bed In clearing your name, you have ruined our lives Heaven forbid someone whisper "He's part of some scheme" Your enemy whispers So you have to scream I know about whispers I see how you look at my sister Don't I'm not naive I have seen women around you Don't think I don't see how they fall for your charms All your charms I'm erasing myself from the narrative Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted When you broke her heart You have thrown it all away Stand back, watch it burn Just watch it all burn And when the time comes Explain to the children The pain and embarrassment You put their mother through When will you learn That they are your legacy? We are your legacy! If you thought you were mine (mine, mine, mine) Don't
I love first burn so much more than burn as eliza sounds less like a naive teen whos angry that she was cheated on but more like a mature observant adult whose heart has genuinely been broken and understands her family is broken apart
@@nai1729 I don't agree. just because she's rapresented as a trusting and patient person doesn't mean that she can't be pushed at a point when she just can't anymore. in burn she sound more sad than angry, she's more composed (is that a word?) and this makes her seem more flat in terms of personality in my opinion. first burn rapresents her emotions in a better way. edit: typo
"do you know what angelica said, when i told her what you'd done?" "she said, 'you've married an Icarus, _now go and get my gun'"_ the original comment is from @alana virag (thought of this with my friend but someone's used it so gotta give credit where it's due)
“ DONT, take another step in my direction I cant be trusted around you. “ This is the best line, because it sums up how mad Eliza is and how she isnt as naive as we thought. Its probably the best line they cut out, it really twists her character actions.
OK BUT ELIZA'S FACE WHEN SHE SINGS "I'M NOT NAIVE, I HAVE SEEN WOMEN AROUND YOU," IS MY FAVORITE PART IN THIS. her facial expression is purely bitter--she goes from being angry in the previous verse to composing herself and making Alex feel guilty in a different way. she's angry, her eyebrows are arched but she's smiling wickedly. i've never seen anyone show Eliza to be this super badass woman in this song! i love it!!
jennamoo I like this comment but I’d just like to point out, people don’t have to be aggressive to be badass. Or at least, that’s what I think. Just really strong and cool and shit loll
To anybody who missed it- There is a small text post in the scene with Eliza who sees Alex and Angelica together it says: "I will never be good enough."
Did you know that in the show, in the first act, the only people who had their hair up we the people who were fighting in the war. It means that they had a rough fight in that time period. The only person in act two who has the hair up is Eliza, suggesting she has the harder fight to go through.
Morgan N the ensemble don’t really count, but Angelica probably went through a lot in act 2 as well. Her nephew and sister died, a person she really trusted betrayed the person she loves most, and she watched Alex die. She also had to move away from the family
I love how smug she looks at 2:00-2:03 when she says "I've seen women around you" Ziksua you're a true artist and I think this would be exactly how Eliza would react
I love how in this animatic you've clearly shown the insecurities of Eliza being that her husband is a well-known womanizer and that she too was insecure about the way "he looked at her sister" showing that, like Angelica in Satisfied, Eliza also is hurting when she sees Alexander with her sister but is happy since they are happy. In a way, she may have married him but she is well-aware there is a certain bond between her husband and her sister that even she can not rival.
This is literally something I went through, but it was middle school love. Angelica/ Maria = my bff and well you should already know... after “burn” I break up with him and he gets with Angelica
I wish that something in the ilk of “I see how you look at my sister” had made it into the final draft. It always felt odd to me that Eliza never references their chemistry. In fact, no one but Hamilton and Angelica ever do. I think it would’ve been an impactful touch - immediately stripping away any sense of naïveté that we may have associated with Eliza.
Reminds me of something that showed up in my recommended. Person talking and girl repeating “don’t” over them in an annoying voice and it eventually turned into incoherent screaming. I have no idea what the clip was from but that’s what eliza’s “DON’T” reminds me of lol
Satisfied: Angelica gathering the wood The Reynolds Pamphlet: Angelica lighting the Match Congratulations: Angelica dropping the Match onto the wood First Burn: Eliza adding the lighter fluid (Result) Eliza: Burnt Ham for dinner children!
For the "Your enemies whisper so you have to scream" I picture it as Eliza getting really close to him andwhispering into his ear and then getting further away and crescendoing before throwing a letter or the reynolds pamphlet at his face during scream
*what happed in bewteen congratulations and burn* Anglica: what's for dinner Elzia: I'm sorry but I burnt the ham Angelica: don't worry I brought a roasted one
JULIA AUDREY I don't know how it is, quote on quote, "wrong on SO. MANY. LEVELS.", but my answer to that is "K", bbuuut I don't want to be rude, so alright. If it's "wrong on SO. MANY. LEVELS." Then just look at comment section and you'll see people implying that is awesome and cool.
@@kiara.alrightt It was common back then. Men of stature had mistresses. As long as it stayed private and didn’t bring public embarrassment, men and pretty much had free reign to cheat on their wives. Ben Franklin had a bastard son, and Thomas Jefferson’s relationship with his slave Sally Hemings were pretty much an open secret.
Helpless: "Elizabeth Schuyler. It's a pleasure to meet you." "Schuyler?" "My sister!" "Thank you for all your service." "If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it." "I'll leave you to it!" Alexander never introduced himself to Eliza in the musical. That's probably why she says, "I don't know who you are." Edit: guys this is just a joke, please dont take it seriously.
Did anyone else notice that Eliza's letters were addressed "My dear Eliza," while Angelica's were always addressed as "My dearest Angelica"? Brilliant touch.
"My dear Eliza" comes up twice in the animatic, once at 0:59 and once at 1:07. But in the show, anytime Alexander is writing Angelica (like in Take a Break) it starts with "My dearest Angelica." So it was just a really amazing choice by Zisuka to represent another layer of his deception and how he never valued his wife quite as much as he valued her sister.
LEEK ANTHONY ikr. She’s like you think you’re so slick? Bitch I’ve known all along and I’ve had enough of it now, I’m gonna ruin you. SIT BACK AND WATCH IT BURN.
Eliza is so strong her sisters died, her son died and Alex cheated and she somehow forgives Alex and accomplish amazing things, this is why Eliza is one of the best people in the musical.
Her sister Peggy died too and her oldest daughter was sent to a kinda insane asylum thing and one of her babies was born still and she adopted a child and the parents of the adopted child took the child away from Eliza after a few years.
i feel like burn and first burn work hand in hand with each other. because first burn has references to a few lyrics in burn that are also really well written so i think if they had burn sung first with eliza by herself and then first burn sung at hamilton like in the video it would work better than first burn replacing burn entirely.

Eliza in Burn: who are you?
Eliza in First Burn: I'm you, but stronger
More aggression does not equal strength. I like both versions, but to say First Burn Eliza is stronger is foolishness. If anything, it’s the other way around.
Morgan Freeman the lyrics in this one are arguably much more emotional and in-depth
Morgan Freeman well the lyrics also show strength
I like first burn better

The line I miss most from the original when I listen to this version is “You forfeit your place in my heart, you forfeit all rights to our bed, you can sleep in your office instead, with only the memories of when you were mine.”
Literally me to my dad when he pays for someone else's bill 😂😂😂 (I'm so mean I'm sorry)
The fact that she said "they" and then corrected herself to "we" just hits me right in the heart
For me the most surprising and funny in a way was when she sang so passionately *”MINEEEEEEEEEE!”* and just goes *SIKE*
Can you imagine how much pain Eliza must had gone threw in just a few years? Her husband cheats, her sister dies, her son dies, and when things start to get better with her and Alexander, Burr becomes "the damn fool that shot him"

I couldn’t agree more. The “sister” did surprise me but felt really sassy for some reason but “WE ARE YOUR LEGACY!” Hit me different

Wish this line made it into the final play. It *perfectly* sums up the worst thing about Alexander in a single sentence.
I like this version more, but Burn fits a lot better with Eliza.
Exactly!
I'd rather this be in the musical than the actual burn

I honestly think that if Angelica were to be Alex's wife instead of Eliza, then Angelica would have killed him...Like literally killed him... like,

Haha
Alex sure didn't dodge a bullet tho
Some news mockingly asked her "art thou not a Roman wife?" It was honestly so disgusting and Eliza is literally the nicest human ever to forgive that asshole.
..damn

hamilton faze never leaves your body.

@@newsystembad see- this is why Burr's and Theo's relationship is healthier than Alexander's.
I absolutely LOVE how this animatic focuses on Eliza feeling like she was never good enough for Hamilton. The others tend to just show she is angry at him for cheating, but the implication Eliza has been upset for most of their marriage really hits hard.
Dang, that's deep

FUN FACT:
When the Reynolds Pamphlet was published, in 1797, Philip (Alexander oldest son) suffered from a deadly disease, from the point that he could no longer get out of bed.
Philip then went on to die at 19 instead

I love this version of burn. Yes it focuses on Hamilton's infidelity, but also other aspects that Hamilton hoped Eliza was too naive to understand. The song also portrays Eliza in a better light.
She knew about her husband charming other women and possibly loving her sister more than a friend. You see the pain, agony and self doubt she felt but pushed it away to support him and their family.
It all came out when the affair happened, and let him hear everything.
The best part was mentioning the children. Eliza wanted him to fully see the damage he caused by saying.
" Did you not think how this would affect the kids?!"
And we all know Philips death was because someone ridiculed his father. The kids reputation was the biggest factor and he overlooked how society would throw stones at his family because of his actions.
Yeah and it was already mentioned what type of a wonderful person Eliza is when Angelica said:
“I know my sister like I know my own mind, you will never find anyone as trusting or as kind”.
Yeah.. it's awful of Hamilton for only thinking about himself and the constitution and didn't even thought how that would affect his family and Eliza...But he still went on, do everything his way, he even went on and charmed other women and his own sister-in law/Angelica.
This woman was so strong to go through all of this.
and peggy
Instead this time the first time Alexander shot the bullet at Eliza then she gave her another
And then she went ahead and did all of the stuff she did after all of that.

I agree, it's basically an embodiment of that quote, "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness"

When Eliza said:"When the time comes explain to the children the pain and embarrassment you put their mother through"
I felt that this song should been in the musical
the song burn is connected to the renyolds pap. so they would have to change the beat and lyrics at end.
I thought this song was in the musical
I think this one went too hard, and if it was, it wouldn't have been believed that she forgave him
Well, Eliza was said to have always been a rather calm and collected person so it would make sense that the end product in the musical reflected that part of her personality
And personally I love the lines "you forfeit the rights to my heart, you forfeit the place in our bed, you'll sleep in your office instead with only the memories". But that's really up to personal preference
i’m pretty lin didn’t want this song because that would mean he n a few others would have to be onstage n he only wanted eliza to be one people focused on
I love how in first burn, Eliza says that she will erase herself from the narrative, and in "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story" Eliza says "I put myself back in the narrative" AND I THINK THAT IS BEAUTIFUL
and in "that would be enough" she says, "let me be a part of the narrative"
but in the original burn she says that too-
but she should FREAKIN DECIDE DO YOU WANT TO BE IN HISTORY OR NOT!?
She said that in burn too
Said it in the same melody too, only the harmony's more peaceful and wholesome

She realises that Maria was extremely vulnerable when they met, and she doesn’t target any anger at her
Edit:OMG I left this comment for ages, and was so shocked, thanks for the likes xx
I thought it was a scheme Maria and James did together, cause there’s multiple recorded incidents of it happening to people with the same timeline of events pretty much.
@@BoltyLive pretty sure at the start of the musical it says Maria loved him
Bolty I read Maria was forced to did it by her husband who didn’t like undercooked ham.
Bolty
Well, here is the story I’ve gathered.

Eliza was from a noble family so it's natural that she would act as a proper lady.

“ DONT, take another step in my direction I cant be trusted around you. “
This is the best line, because it sums up how mad Eliza is and how she isnt as naive as we thought. Its probably the best line they cut out, it really twists her character actions.

IKR
OK BUT ELIZA'S FACE WHEN SHE SINGS "I'M NOT NAIVE, I HAVE SEEN WOMEN AROUND YOU," IS MY FAVORITE PART IN THIS. her facial expression is purely bitter--she goes from being angry in the previous verse to composing herself and making Alex feel guilty in a different way. she's angry, her eyebrows are arched but she's smiling wickedly. i've never seen anyone show Eliza to be this super badass woman in this song! i love it!!
jennamoo that scene was awesome (well the whole vid was) eliza's expression boi

Did you know that in the show, in the first act, the only people who had their hair up we the people who were fighting in the war. It means that they had a rough fight in that time period. The only person in act two who has the hair up is Eliza, suggesting she has the harder fight to go through.
wHAt
What about Washington? He was bald
@@maxscher6126 aND BURR
Actually, Angelica had her hair up, as well as many people in the ensemble
Morgan N the ensemble don’t really count, but Angelica probably went through a lot in act 2 as well. Her nephew and sister died, a person she really trusted betrayed the person she loves most, and she watched Alex die. She also had to move away from the family
I love how smug she looks at 2:00-2:03 when she says "I've seen women around you"
Ziksua you're a true artist and I think this would be exactly how Eliza would react
I know this the masterpiece of the goddess
This is literally something I went through, but it was middle school love. Angelica/ Maria = my bff and well you should already know... after “burn” I break up with him and he gets with Angelica
I wish that something in the ilk of “I see how you look at my sister” had made it into the final draft. It always felt odd to me that Eliza never references their chemistry. In fact, no one but Hamilton and Angelica ever do. I think it would’ve been an impactful touch - immediately stripping away any sense of naïveté that we may have associated with Eliza.
Yes, in burn she sounds still very naïve still but this one has so many good lines
Right like it's impossible that they don't notice... But these animatics make me feel like they technically did get in soooo 😂

the part where it flickers to her past self reading his letters and now is so sad
also when she repeats I'm erasing myself from the narrative because I can picture her repeating that to herself for comfort
I love how she says "DON'T" like she is talking to a child. Like when your mom and you are in an argument and she just says "DON'T!"
Reminds me of something that showed up in my recommended. Person talking and girl repeating “don’t” over them in an annoying voice and it eventually turned into incoherent screaming. I have no idea what the clip was from but that’s what eliza’s “DON’T” reminds me of lol
I think it relates to the previous line: “if you thought you were mine… don’t.”

@@kiara.alrightt to try holding on to a fleeting happiness. Rarely anyone brave enough to let it go
@@kiara.alrightt In our culture, colonized country, being divorced is a really bad hit for the woman and also for the kids, for the childrens.
I like how Hamilton never speaks his emotions but shows them while his wife is getting crazy and not divorcing him but making him feel guilty
Helpless:
"Elizabeth Schuyler. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Schuyler?"
"My sister!"
"Thank you for all your service."
"If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it."

Alexander never introduced himself to Eliza in the musical. That's probably why she says, "I don't know who you are."

Madison Dabbs-Petty I thought nobody else would notice oml
Madison Dabbs-Petty waIT WHERE
"My dear Eliza" comes up twice in the animatic, once at 0:59 and once at 1:07. But in the show, anytime Alexander is writing Angelica (like in Take a Break) it starts with "My dearest Angelica." So it was just a really amazing choice by Zisuka to represent another layer of his deception and how he never valued his wife quite as much as he valued her sister.
omg what the heck

Eliza is so strong her sisters died, her son died and Alex cheated and she somehow forgives Alex and accomplish amazing things, this is why Eliza is one of the best people in the musical.
Ingrid Colon she started the first private orphanage fought against slavery and still told Alexander’s story just this woman is strong
She also had to take in another one of her kids dying I think but a while after Alexander died
Her sister Peggy died too and her oldest daughter was sent to a kinda insane asylum thing and one of her babies was born still and she adopted a child and the parents of the adopted child took the child away from Eliza after a few years.
how?
Ana Rios what do you mean how?
i feel like burn and first burn work hand in hand with each other.
because first burn has references to a few lyrics in burn that are also really well written so i think if they had burn sung first with eliza by herself and then first burn sung at hamilton like in the video it would work better than first burn replacing burn entirely.
