I prefer the looks of the previous generation. BMW messed up here, the front end looks like its borrowed from the 2 series grand coupe and the rear is ruined by that horrible light cluster. Then you get to the interior, the skate-board deck screen, lack of buttons and light-strips all scream "cost-cutting". Overall, this vehicle does not inspire any desire. It leaves me feeling cold like its just another disposable vehicle to be forgotten about as soon as the owner gets a promotion and upgrades to something he/she truly desires.
E class looks nicer and has better tech. But interior has cheap materials. BMW has a quality feel and is faster. But isn’t good looking as E class. R200 000 difference is a lot. I can only imagine what that 5 series will have if you put that money towards additionals
Actually this time around, Mercedes wins it. The new E Class is a huge improvement on their current interiors. It actually feels rock solid and uses better materials than the 5 series. This new 5 series has that cheap hard plastic on the bottom half of the door panels that Mercedes uses in the C Class. Whereas the new E Class has soft touch plastics on the lower doors. The E is better and has a better diesel engine. The rest of the Merc line up however is still poo. But the E seems to be a new direction for them in terms of getting back to their old build and material quality.

And all I'm saying is that the 5 series has more hard plastic this time around. The new E has none. Even the bottom of the doors are soft whereas in the new 5 it's hard. Kindly get into the habit of mentioning the fuel consumption in litres per 100km because most of the vehicles you are testing measure this for you anyway - this way we can easily compare with other vehicles in or outside the stable too. Secondly, it would be great to compare the basic offerings of major competitors in order to assert the differential in pricing - for example does the Merc offer heat ventilation that BMW maybe does not offer on the basic vehicle (forget that you can spec it for more money, or include the spec price to compare against competitor)? This way you can be more objective, and maybe also compare screens and need for the extra one on the passenger side if need be (some people travel with spouses a lot while others do not, which may affect independent TH-cam viewing or social media searching for the passenger). As for the shirts it would be good to offer the society the one you are wearing Budd 🙈✨😂🤣
I prefer the previous gen of the 5-Series all day everyday, this one is just big and unnecessary with that screen the whole exterior of the car,so yeah it's a no for me🙂
They use E Classes in Europe as taxis and they drive a million kms. If anything will break down it'll be the BMW. There's a reason why they use E Classes only.
