Adorable! My dad has never read a whole book in his life. I always assumed he had because when I was a child, I saw him read at least 2 newspapers a day. During my high school years, I bought him a book I swore he would like for Christmas. It remains unread. Ultimately, I read because I saw dad read the papers. Thanks Dad!!!

Your dad should absolutely try audiobooks while doing his woodworking, renovating, etc that's how I got into audiobooks and I can say time just flows differently and more pleasantly that way. ❤

Your dad had me laughing out loud when he mentioned that he started reading the book, but five years later, he's still on chapter 4. It reminded me of a similar experience I had with a book. I began reading it in 2020 during the pandemic, and when I reached chapter 4, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf for three years until I finally completed it in January. I suppose that's why I found it amusing, as I've done the same thing with a few books (maybe five if not more).

It's so difficult to get my dad to read (: Last summer I told him i will not give him any of the iced coffee i make everyday if he doesn't sit down and read with me while drinking it. And he said he would read a page for a glass of iced coffee and by the end of summer he only finished one book which was of mice and men by john steinbeck and he was so proud 😂 now he goes around saying "Steinbeck is my favourite author" as if he has read any other book by him or any other author at all 😆

You have to read The Blue Castle! I think it is LM Montgomery best book (and I am a big fan of all of her books so this is high praise). It is such a beautiful story and I it is one of my go-to rereads when I am feeling down.

Now your Dad picked exactly that book 😁, hope you’ll give it a try! At the age of 68 I still enjoy it again from time to time and even have it as e book on my iPad in English. Maybe I’ll give the Marsian to my brother, he’s enthusiastically enjoying SciFi… as he’s a father of 5 boys he’ll need a time, too, but he loves reading per se. Love, Monika❣
