Thomas Jane just brought an energy to that role that nobody else can replicate. His presence, that dark deep raspy voice, the intensity in his eyes & face when he’s mad. He wasn’t the biggest guy to play Punisher, but he was the most intimidating & strategic with his attacks & kills. He wasn’t cartoonish & blind rage like the other actors. Jane’s Frank Castle felt REAL
1. Tom Jane (got jacked for the role, did training with the military, great 2004 rock soundtrack backing him, only downfall was Howard Saint and all the parking ticket plans to get back at him. I would’ve loved to see a full-length sequel of him going after Jigsaw) 2. Jon Bernthal (did research with the comics, great actor in the role, benefitted a lot from being in two Netflix series. Hope to see him again in the MCU) 3. Ray Stevenson (no one looked the part better than Stevenson, plus he did some serious gun training, but the movie was way over-the-top) 4. Dolph Lundgren (he would’ve been a lot better with way better production values and a comic accurate Netflix/MCU shared universe take, a la Bernthal)
The Punisher: My #1: Dolph Lundgren. Watched it the very first time as a very young kid. And the old Punisher VHS is one tape I did not get rid of... PS. A one (and only) awesome way to start this video: the monologue.. ❤

I like the 1989 Punisher the best. I think it shows Punisher as the most metally fatigued out of all the films, but it's low budget and of it's time. The Thomas Jane movie has the most complete plot, but i'd say is the furthest away from the character. Warzone i know is considered to be the closest to the comics, but i thought it was a terrible film with a uncharismatic Punisher. I don't think it's fair to compare TV shows with films , as its a different medium
Technically only Ray Stevenson and Dolph Lundgren played The Punisher. Jon Bernthal and Tom Jane both played Frank Castle having an existential crisis.
@MADABOUTSUPERHEROES They were named that but they weren't that. Tom Jane didn't become The Punisher until the very end of his movie. His movie is more origin story. The same for Jon Bernthal. I thought each movie had a good depiction of different era's of Frank's life. 2004 - He was just getting started. Raw and unpolished. 2008 - He was an unstoppable, well oiled machine. 1989 - He was burned out and empty, weary from all his killing. I like all three differently. John Berthnal is by far the best actor to play Frank Castle aka the Punisher. He benefits from great writing and directing. All the previous incarnations fell under the bus due to bad execution.
