Great review mate looks a nice bit of kit, I think another point is could Mele make a model with a built in hotspot so you can connect via a mobile device using remote desktop so it could be used out in the field then it would be perfect.
Thanks very much, well funny you should say that, see the latest video by Cuiv the lazy geek, he explains how to set up the hotspot on this very PC for use out in the field…👍🏻
Great review thanks. What's the wifi like? I have a 3C but it can't handle planetary camera capture and the wifi is terrible. I've had to buy an external wifi dongle for it. I'm tempted to try this to see if it can keep up with high frame rate capture
Thanks for the comment, I find the Wi-Fi ok, it’s about 15 yards away from the back of my house, where I have a range extender for the Wi-Fi, I have the 32gb RAM version, and works fine for planetary, although not done much of that TBH..hope that helps 👍🏻
I just got a quieter 4C N100 but haven't done anything with it yet. It's very small and light! I didn't get the overclock because I wanted to keep the power usage down to manage battery life. You can set the N100 power use in the bios - I think it defaults to about 20W but can be ramped up to 30W max. May not be the same with the overclock version? That's a good idea to clone Windows to the ssd. Mine has the 256 + 256 split also. Might as well update the Windows 11 first then clone the eMMC to the included 256GB? Then upgrade the ssd, put the original in a safe place, then re-clone. One can normally partition so could put the Windows in a 256GB partition then have ~750GB free (less overprovisioning). I guess put astro software on the eMMC first - or not necessary? I'm not sure how well my setup is going to work yet. I'm in a second floor flat... My plan is to link a pc to the mount/mini computer via a wifi travel router. The mele obviously already has wifi but I'm not sure what range it has, so I bought the travel router just in case, really. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for the comment. I think you will find the Mini PC excellent. I would set up all the software you want on it, as well as update the windows, then clone the windows eMMC drive over to the SSD drive, then remove that SSD, (if you are upgrading to a bigger one) and put your new one in, and then clone the eMMC into that one, and ready to go, when all is good, you could then wipe the eMMC and use that for extra storage. Or you could just use your new drive (assuming you upgraded) as it will be bigger, and leave the eMMC as is, and you can just change the boot order and boot from that eMMC if you ever need to, as that will be your back up, then no need for a separate back up drive at all. Not sure if I explained all that to well, but any questions please ask..👍🏻
Yeah, hope so! All my other ssd's are Samsung so thought I'd get another one of those :) Might as well be a 1TB so plenty of storage! I wouldn't expect a super high speed but must be loads better than eMMC! I just hope there aren't any problems with updating the Windows 11... I suppose it will be simpler to just put a new ssd in, partition it, and clone to 256GB partition. Samsung has it's own cloning tool but only works with Samsung... I'm going to keep everything away from the internet apart from occasional updates :)@@Astro_Shed
Thanks for the question, you need a third party software like Macrium reflect which is free, to do the clone, then you just select the drive to be cloned and the destination drive and let it do its thing…it’s really simple..👍🏻
We’re thrilled to see your in-depth review of the MeLE Overclock 4C! We look forward to hearing more of your insights on our product😊
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated…👍🏻
Great review Stuart! So nice that Mele reached out to you mate! The Mele is a good choice of mini pc for us Astro folk😀 Clear skies👍
Thanks Simon, yes came as a surprise to me too
Clear skies
Great rundown on the mini PC. Seems like a very popular brand of mini PC for astro especially as it runs on 12v.
Thanks Logan, yes they are popular and seem very stable too, this particular model runs pixinsight well too, clear skies.

using the other usb you mentioned is NOT pointless......i believe its so you can run everything from one cable.
Thanks for the comment, it’s pointless for me as I have a Pegasus UPB on my mount..so I have one cable with all running off…👍🏻
How do you clone the drive from eMMC to SSD drive?

I got a couple of them. They're great.
Thanks for the comment, yea they certainly are….👍🏻
Thanks alot for sharing brother, New friend here stay connected God bless you
Its a small world Stu 👌
Thanks for the comment, it sure is, clear skies mate…👍🏻
12v USB port to power it? They certainly don't listen to astrophotographers...
Thanks for the comment
Yes I have asked them if that would consider putting an adapter in the box for us Astro guys 👍
I have one powered by a 12v 3a 5521 dc cable from a Celestron dew heater controller with a usb c plugin adapter. Works great.
