Noticed you called the sword Kinebrach but, if I remember correctly, that was actually the race who built it. The sword was the Anathame. Also Garviel Loken does not die on Istvaan. There is much more to his story than this video says.
‘I wanted Abaddon,’ said Loken. ‘I wanted Lupercal. Those were the names at the head of my list.’ ‘Well, you got me,’ Aximand sneered. ‘You always were the wrong Horus,’ said Loken. Aximand screeched in rage, and lunged. The level of Loken's Bantz was always 1st Company tier
You don’t get enough credit man, as someone who just recently got into warhammer and choosing the horce hearsay to start, garveil loken was one of my favorite characters of all of fiction and it’s dope he was your first choice of video, keep it up man
Great video.. but um.. didn't Garviel Loken survive to become Cerberus, join the Knights Errant, and regain his memories and composure? Can't wait to see that section of the story of Garvy
This is a super tough character to do for the first video of a TH-cam lore channel- so my respect to the Remeberancer for going right for it- lokens story is not complete in the books just yet, and there are many parts to his tale; I agree that he will need to do a part 2.
man, i remember Saul Tarvitz, he was All style and all Substance on top of it, he was a beautiful spectacle of martial showmanship and tactical prowess, wielding Bolter and Sword at an even higher degree then simply an extension of himself, they were him and he was them. That is what The Emperor's Children were all about: Martial Poise and Grace.
Garviel Loken is my all time favorite Warhammer character. He was loyal to the emperor till the end and what I liked about his character was he didn't have plot armor, and wasn't invincible or had some way of beating his enemy, just pure strength along with the great leadership he showed. He fought till the end and even lost but still was defiant against his corrupted father, loyal to the emperor.
Gaviel Locken is one of my favorite characters in horus heresy, along with Nathaniel Garro. although I have always found Tarik Torgaddon more interesting.
This was great! It's only a matter of time until this grows to be another great channel for 40k lore. Keep up the good work, Remembrancer, and may the Emperor (beloved by all) shine his golden light upon you.
Hahaha I just started my first 40k series and obviously chose The Horus Heresy, that sparring session I just read about a few days ago, Loken is a straight up Omega
I've been listening to every 40k channel there is, and I haven't subbed as fast to any of them as I did to yours. Your videos are amazing, and you've got the perfect voice to speak the lore.
Ok, I just discovered this channel and watched its first video. If the rest of them are as good as this one oh I am blessed with HOURS of goodness. Thank you!! THE EMPEROR PROTECTS.
The Imperium has lost much knowledge but the Horus Heresy is where it all began. As the Warp waxes and wanes the flow of time may change but my transmissions as of now will remain on the events throughout the Heresy. To the best of my knowledge, in order of events.
This is one of my favorite story's that at the most darkest time in ones life and even as he lay dying he only thought of the hope that others would fight as he did even in the face of betrayal
KARKASY the remembrancer was interesting. Any chance you could monologue characters from the furious abyss book like ANTEGES / CESTUS / MOTEB / SKRAL / BRIMGAR also ZHAR'HARDRIAL from the dark angel scene ?
"I was never a Son of Horus. I was and remain a Luna Wolf. A proud son of Cthonia, a loyal servant of the Emperor, beloved by all. I am your enemy."-Garviel Loken
@7:23 you credit "and loken felt nothing else" -Galaxy in flames Toby Longworth, Black Library. But Galacy in flames was written by Ben Counter not Toby Longworth. Toby is a voice talent that appears for a lot of Black Library audiobooks but he's not the author.
There was a time I thought Loken was evil but overtime and learning more of the horus Heresy he and others that were part of the traitors legion where actually good guys
garviel and taric has a power no other luna wolf or son of horus have and that's the reason they were able to stave of chaos. and that's the fact that they are the only ones with actual hair
I am currently reading False Gods. So far, there is one part that made little sense to me, and that was when the guards men attacked Eufrati Keeler, calling her an, "Emperor loving witch." While I understand their love and loyalty to Horus at this point and their disdain for anything with religious trappings, their first and primary loyalty should have been with the Emperor.
I won’t spoil for you but you’ll get an understanding of why legions turn traitor etc by the end of false gods and in galaxy in flames. It does explain well why Horus turns his back against the emperor.
I always believed that the noble and loyal part of horus soul went into him and that what revived/saved him. When he was found and he was insane I believe that was two souls fighting for who was in control. Dumb theory but I like it heh 😅
Of course he did. He went on to be a Knight Errant etc etc. etc His story still iant iver actually. Im sure a video will be done in the future in his exploits under Malcador and beyons
Not bad, very brief but to the point, a lot of important back story missed out though, rejecting the lodges, the one on one fight with a Custodies where Loken actually made the custodian put some effort in, his best friend Nero Vipus (Sergeant in the 10th company) his dealings with the remembrancers, Sindermann, Euphrati Keeler and Ignace Karkasy. Loken broke Lucius (now known as Lucius the Eternal) nose in one on one combat, I could go on. Then there's all the stuff that happened after this video has happened. Being found crazed and broken but alive by Garro. Becoming a Knights Errant and an agent of Malcoador, spending time on Luna with the sisters of silence, rebuilding his sanity after Istivan 3 and making a Garden. Meeting up with Qurze and Severian, the last known Luna wolves at this point. There was so much more that should have been added to this video
Looking back, it was unfortunately clear that Garviel Loken had to die. In the book of Pandorax, where Abaddon the prisoner interrogates Epimetheus and wonders who he is, he said that he cannot be his former brother because he had seen him die. At the time I thought he meant Severian. But now it is unfortunately clear that he meant Loken. This means that Loken's death was apparently decided years ago. It's a real shame because I was hoping until the end that it would be Loken who would hopefully kill Abaddon at some point. Unfortunately that was a mistake. R.I.P Garviel Loken, Captain of the 10th Company of the 16th Legion, dearest and last son of Horus loyal to the Emperor. The last of the Luna Wolf. You were the best!
Excellent video but i think there should be one small correction. The blade that wounded Horus was called anathame and was created by the kinibrach people.
Makes me wonder if anyone in 40k can beat Abbidon save the Emperor somehow comes back especially since he now wields the demon blade Sigismund, Loken the list goes on and now he is close to burning down the entire galaxy with the aid of a soon to be 5th chaos God it doesn't look good
He Is my favorite character of the Horus Hersey... Thank you for this video
Same here. I'm about 20 books into the HH series and Loken is still my personal favorite.
Same.
Come now Garvey, your so up and Down! -Tar Gadon, best buds with Lokan circa M32
"Erebus, the deceiving snake", truer words have never been spoken

The naysayer, and yet the most faithful to the ideals of the Imperium of Man.
Garviel Loken, Saul Tarvitz, Nathaniel Garro, and many other members of the Heretical legions who were loyal to the Emperor, all heroes to the end.

Can’t forget Barabas Dantioch as well

The Luna Wolves shall be redeemed.
Next to Garo, Lokken is one of the dopest character stories in the series.
Valdor? Is that you?
I think Saul trumos them both, he was never expected to become what he did and he punished The Emporers Children for their short-sightedness.

Currently collecting and painting a Heros of the Heresy set so like Garro, Loken and Sal stoked I found this channel
I don't know why but the voice for the audio book gave me the mental picture of Torgadon with a beard and a mow-hawk and I can't lose it
Toby Longsworth’s (narrator) voice always gave me the impression that Loken was more of a jet black haired sort of fellow.
This is one of my favorite story's that at the most darkest time in ones life and even as he lay dying he only thought of the hope that others would fight as he did even in the face of betrayal
I haven't ready many 40k books but I read his ... he is my favorite Space Marine.
This is great , how often will you upload?
Stories about the characters from traitor legions who stayed loyal are so good.
Against all odds he still stands against the traitors. That right there elevates him to top level for me.
Top notch narration one of my favorites of all the videos I have ever seen
