🤔After some more thorough review we have done some retroactive research *to verify and make sure* we were not misrepresenting the Slab City community. A few viewers were quite vocal about their distaste for the video (understandably). However, after reading a number of pieces by folks who actually lived in the community for some time, from weeks, to nearly a year, indeed, those initial observations of the area from our perspective seem to prove out as true.
-There are around 150-160 permanent residents in the area.
-From what we've read, most seem to be on some type of Food Stamps and/or government funding (taxpayer dollars)
-There are some disabled Veterans in the community who are collecting (and deserve in our view) disability payments.
-Drugs and the trading thereof seem to be one of the significant forms of currency
-The community prides itself on being a self described "lawless" community, immune to societal laws and instead enforce some kind of vague set of "unspoken laws" enforced by those deemed to be "in charge".
We are providing links to a few of the articles we reviewed to verify our initial impressions.

So u know ...alot of people in slab city are 60+ they are veterans and disabled people we have running water showers and power as well as bathrooms you chose to go in the bad parts and be very judgemental u didn't go to traveling pals or mojos camp where normal ppl don't live in trash ,aren't hoarders, bathe everyday, and don't do drugs I would suggest you be less judgemental and explore all the areas so when u give a opinion... it's educated. Also it's Leanord Knight ..not Wright again maybe be less judgemental and more educated next time

      Hi. Thanks for the input.
A city is no less a despotic hellscape because it may have a section or two of "upper class" areas.
Detroit, MI, for example will remain an impoverished crime ridden area (one of the highest in the nation) in spite of the fact that Bloomfield Hills, MI, one of the richest cities in Michigan (and America for that matter) happens to be in the same set of counties.
Calling Detroit one of the highest murder cities in America is citing facts. It's in the top 5. Is this an uneducated, judgmental statement? Perhaps in your book, based on your set of parameters. But not mine.
We reported the facts as we read them (minus the citing the wrong last name for Mr. Knight) and the things that we personally filmed and witnessed. I am sorry it's not a convenient set of facts and truth for you.
Oh, and by the way, his first name is Leonard, not Leanord.

@livingwithrob I agree everywhere has good and bad areas , I also think exploring both sides and then forming a opinion is a wise decision, however that's just me but to state everyone here is desperate ,on drugs, dirty, and living in filth is not accurate..is everyone in Detroit a murderer or drug addict... no just like everyone here isn't how you described as a matter of fact the crime rate is lower here then in most suburbs so its safer here at night that's all Iam saying

@courtneyvanmeter8931 I feel I should make something clear based on your first comment.
I believe in and support our service members, both past and present. It saddens me deeply those who have fallen through the cracks and struggle through the trauma and pain vets know. Particularly the disabled vets who are not getting proper treatment for their ailments and conditions.
I have two sons presently serving honorably. Both of whom have their own crosses to bear now.
Furthermore, I had and uncle who, through his own horrible choices, eventually lost his wife, family and then his life to drug and alcohol addiction, dying alone, under a bridge loaded with drugs.
The fact that he was a vet changes little about the fact that he, like everyone, was a human who had choices, made bad (actually the types of terrible I reference in this video) choices, and in the end, lost it all because of them.
We all go through varying degrees of hell on earth. I have, for sure. What we choose to do with it makes the difference.
Neither of us in this video used the word "all" as you have stated to define the locals. At least from my rewatch. We used the word combination of "a lot". However, in a review to clarify for my own sense of correctness, I did not hear or could find where we used the phrase "all" when referring to the locals.
This, in my view then, is an accurate statement. There are *a lot* of people living in and under pretty desperate circumstances from what I witnessed with my own eyes.
While you cast me as judgmental, as is your right to do, I expressed sincere concern and empathy/sympathy for those whose homes and living spaces we personally observed.
It's not my norm to take on debating with someone dissatisfied who then expresses their distaste for what we have recorded.
In this case, you have misrepresented what I have said, left out important details in what was said, implied I was saying things we were not, and then actually cast "judgment" on us as being "judgmental" for simply stating accurately that which we observed.
Thank you again for expressing your disagreement and allowing me the opportunity to further clarify our thinking on the place known as Slab City.
