Carl Palmer was an icon for me back in the 70's and still is today-I can remember sitting with my binocs watching him play dual gongs behind his kit during a solo performance while touring with ELP and ringing a huge church bell by suspended above him with a rope dangling down in his mouth! Met him at a drum clinic later on and what a nice guy-besides an awesome showman behind the set. Keep it up Carl and thank you Korg-p.s. I played a friend's wavedrum for about 2 hours and want one of my own!
Thanks for demonstrating and thank you for all your energy and effort put in to play music with ELP and you're continue to bring the music to people you are a true Inspiration. To future musicians and listeners.
The one thing I always liked about Carl Palmer is the way he uses his rudiments inside of rock and other polyrhythms.@1:10 is a good example of this. Nice! Thanks for the post.
Carl is a legend and a very nice person. I think he loves analog drumming more when you look at his career. I realy don't mind that he endorses this Kork material. By the way, his drumming is brilliant and musical aa always. And with Carl, you always notice he loves the sounds. A master and an example.
As a drummer my favorite influences have been Carl Palmer , John Bonham, Ian Paice, Barriemore Barlow, and Allen White. Oh I can,t forget Neil Peart. {not necessarily in order]
He DID do it first and he DID stay away from electronic drums for years and as one of the best drummers in the world he DOES have some of the best snares in the world. It's not bragging of bullshit if you can back it up and he can. Do yourself a favor and listen to his drumming on Emerson Lake and Palmer albums then think again before you put down someone you know nothing about.
One thing I am surprised doesn't get mentioned much is the center of the head is pretty dead where the pressure sensor comes in contact with the head. The pressure sensor is for hand drumming effects mostly but if you are looking for a cool electronic snare drum the stick rebound in the center of the drum is not so great. There are forums on this and it is not a mater of lowering the pressure sensor off the head or tightening the head. The experts on the forum say you just have to get used to that and play around the perimeter for faster action. See the Korg forums on Pressure Sensor height and in particular the threads by the "wavedrummer" member.
Carl's memory is rather short, regarding his use of electronic drums. He used them during the 80's with Asia. In fact, he had 3 of them that had huge faces on them, which he used during the debut LP and Alpha.
@IwshIcldstrtover Yeah right. Carl used Nick's pickups, that would trigger 8 small synthesizers, after he broken some of the Moog 1130 (they were so fragile for Carl's energy). But, I think it was a normal drum set . The stainless steel drum you talk was used by Carl during the Works recording sessions (1977). With ASIA he starts to use electronic drums based on digital sample technology. Anyway, maybe I'm wrong (I'm a keyboard player) but I love Carl' powerful drumming. Nice to meet you :-)
Carl is genuine about this Tech used by Korg I feel the standalone brain is long out in my option. Ala carte is the way to go you should have the freedom select, tune,adjust per pad and layer it as well. This powerful device set-up as a trap set-up or within a trap set-up opens up a whole new avenue in terms of GROOVES. Ethnic feeling grooves not the standard Drum set grooves played. TRILOK GURTU's approach is now a reality and endless

The synthesizer pickups were built into the British stainless steel drum set that he used and were developed by Carl's technician called Nick Rose. Bob Moog didn't want to take it as far as Carl did, so he asked Nick to help him with it. Carl did use electronic drums during Asia as well, and that was what I was pointing out.

In fact, the entire ELP "Black Moon" album was acoustic drums filled with foam and drum triggers on the toms and bass drums. I bought one of these Wave Drums used on eBay and I never did figure out whether it wasn’t working properly, but it had no sensitivity. Unless you really slammed it with sticks the acoustic sound of the plastic was louder than the electronic output. Completely impossible to play with hands. Again, mine may have been a reject. I unloaded it again.
@U2WB - Were either of the ones you had the 'Global' version? Asking, because *all* the previous ones had notoriously low output and Korg didn't address the problem until the Global (current) model.

i own an original wavedrum that has limitations but is an awesome instument. i own two new wavedrums and, don't get me wrong, they are awesome instruments.but the korg oriental is more to my idea of what i want from a wavedrum. korg hear this - i want to control A SINGLE SOUND from my wavedrum. rim or otherwise. not two sounds in combinations.korg oriental wavedrum is getting there. and give me a usb editor. the knobs give me the shits.
I still hate electronic drums and I thought the snare sound was awful. I'm not sure Carl is really being sincere when he says he has great snare drums and that this thing sounds better than any of them.

He didn't say it was better. He just liked it. If you have a whole lot of great sounding snares it makes sense to desire something that they don't give you.
I don't think he's be conceited. He wants to promote this particular snare drum. He has played on the best and knows a thing or two about good drums. Just his way of indorsing this one.

Neither for the commercial in itself, nor for his glorious past stuff. I'm an analogical percussionist and i simply don't love syntetic drum sound. In particulary korg wavedrum is very expensive and makes not satisfying sound, especially when it reproduce indian tabla. Thanks for your consideration.

He`s the only drummer I can listen to who can play a drum solo I will listen to..the only thing more boring than a drum solo is a bass solo although Suzi Quatro can almost pull it off..I like listening to the dead but they are a little different..two drummers naturally will find a grove that`s hard to beat..IMHO Carl is the greatest living percussionist..he`s probably not as fast as he used to be but we are all getting older and tempo is only one aspect of rhythm
