I have an idea! You should build a Minecraft beacon that emits light! That would be so cool!
i think it'd be worth going back to the drawing board and making the body pieces connect to the legs and head. that way with at least the balloon method you'd get more pressure build up. its neat as is but feels more like its just falling down than exploding. still super cool would love to see a sturdy solid version just for display too!

Following up on the pieces falling off the creeper, I would love to see you build a wither that is made out of soul sand, and when the heads are attached, the sand falls and reveals the wither's body, and then it 'senses' where you are and fires at you. Amazing video! Ps: I will never not think the creeper has a moustache!

Actually Mojang designed them to look like leaves and he intended for them to be made of leaves.

you could have just used some small fireworks or firecrackers to do it, and it would have looked so much cooler
Fun fact when creepers were added they blend into the leaves and basically had a leave texture just slapped onto them when the model was created by accident also it's not a mustache it's mouth

i have one good idea ,pls try this: You must get hydrogen baloon,which is the have size as this and then if hydrogen balloon exploded,you will get a lot of kinetic energy,which is the you need this(for this project).Of course you nee a little spark mechanism for starting the explosion and this more efficient than this mechansim(on you video,i think).I hope you can understand me,because my grammar is gg lmaooo

You could have angled the flaps upwards, and have flaps in all four directions. Maybe even have a spring-powered piston to shoot the head up!
