I watched Metropolis at home a few years ago and my Swedish housemate walked in as this scene was playing. he said "jesus, that place looks grim. All they need is to install a pub underground". I always think about that when I watch it now.
The pairing is inevitable.German synth band doing a piece of music about a classic german silent movie....natural fit. Thanks for mashing them up for us!!!
Excellent synchronizing of music to the film! Kraftwerk's brilliant tribute piece to Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS, from their 1978 album THE MAN-MACHINE (EMI-Capitol Records).
This is so weird. I remember back in 1978, the movie Metropolis came on the local PBS channel and just for fun I put on the album Metropolis for a soundtrack. I remember thinking back then that the way the two meshed was incredible. Remember, this was a pre-vhs world. Hadn't thought about it until now. Thanks for posting!
Yes! Back in 1978 I was watching "Metropolis" on channel 9 (local PBS station) in Berkeley. I turned the sound on the TV down & played Kratwerk's "Metropolis" over and over while I watched the movie. It was amazing how it synced up. Happy to see this! Great minds ... etc. :)
Grew up listening to this and I've been inspired ever since to try and be as alternative. Absolutely original music that needs to be continuously listened to !!!!

I have often wondered why Kraftwerk never did a full music soundtrack for Metropolis. I think we can all agree it would have been stunning.
they kinda did :)
Actually , there has been a release of " Metropolis", with a Theremin soundtrack.
The " Metropolis", sound track with a Theremin has been done.Thank you.

You'd played just this Song over and over? Well, it seems like I should do this also 👌
We need to ask Kraftwerk to make a new soundtrack when this film turns 100.

No.Most individuals realize humanity is the highest common denominator, not the least. The beauty is compassion, truth, love...

A local film aficionado in Toronto, Reg Hartt, played the film METROPOLIS with an all-electronic score including this.

bravo, hai fuso alla perfezione musica ed immagini
Antonio Missere in realtà è una vecchia canzone che a quanto pare coincide perfettamente con l'inizio del film
The beginning fits well but the rhythm and melody can’t express the agony of the workers.
开头合适,但节奏和旋律不能表达工人的痛苦。
What if I were to tell you that I am one of those workers?
The music is great
Flitz Lang-Film
Die Musik von Kraftwerk scheint am besten geeignet zu sein
Mir fällt außer Kraftwerk keine Musik ein, die dazu passen könnte.
Brilliant!! Iconic...
We're still working ourselves to death at work behind machines.
What a beauty ! I have always wondered if the band have younger members of family who are involved in music to carry the great music going ?

Perfeito. Muito bem montado!
I used to work in a factory/ warehouse and this is EXACTLY what I thought about as I went in(2nd shift) and first shift came out. Metropolis.
this is one of my favourite youtube videos. *clapclapclap*
Perhaps a bit late reply, however if you still do not know it is the City Alarm. Maria is sounding it in the scene where she rescues the children.
Thanks for that!

I mean, the song is literally based on the film...

I tried this today! Before I watched this video. Apparently I'm not the only one with great ideas.

I am thinking that the men are dragging out from their shift and the others are double stepping into work.
Very nice video and music. I love it. How can one show a video like this publicly - e.g. at schools. GEMA?
fantastik
Why don't use the original soundtrack?
Because the point is that Kraftwerks Metropolis was inspired by this movie and underlying concepts.
how are there so many metropolis videos up and mine got flagged for copyright? good video
2027 anyone?

Considering it's also called Metropolis, no, not a coincidence...
